@@christill We've currently got the Good Cat Pro, Ultra and GT here in Thailand. All come with full length electric sunroofs and a list of toys too long to mention. The GT has larger 18'' wheels, but the same performance and range as the Ultra. Personally I'd go for the Pro, which goes for the equivalent of £19,395, here in Thailand and is still fully loaded

I’ve just got back from China. The EVs are brilliant and priced very well. When they arrive here, they will suddenly gain £10k. We are being price gouged again. If they were priced where they are in China, there would be no market for Western cars. A Model 3 is £28k now. It just doesn’t compete.
Econ 101, the value is not how much it costs to make but how much customers are willing to pay. I'm curious whether this pricing strategy is going to pan out for them actually.
It seems to be the trend to call car interiors vegan, when the true description is plastic... British Leyland was totally honest, calling seats vinyl. Anyway, that Cat has a very nice looking plastic interior.
I'm not big fan of leather but to think that cow was killed just because of leather for some car is ridiculous. Cow was already dead, using its skin is less waste and more profit for farmers.

Price and availability will be important. An ora needs to undercut an ionic 6. The ora is more of a looker for my money but the ionic will hold its value.
Could we get some discussion of aftermarket care with these small brands. Whilst the product now looks good, should I be concerned in 5 years when I need to replace a brake disc, wheel bearing, wiring loom or whatever?
They are using a local importer and servicer so parts shouldn't ever be an issue. Gwm is a massive company so they won't disappear in China and probably use many similar parts among their various brands. Of course the importer makes the cars way more expensive outside china. But servicing and parts not an issue.

The Ora Funky Cat is called the 300 Pro here in Sweden - which sounds like the kind of name you'd put on an electric toothbrush or some kind of garden equipment - strangely enough, they are delivered as Funky Cats, than stripped of the badges... If I were to buy one, I would insist on keeping the name badges! So I guess the Lightning Cat will be sold as the 700 Pro here, then... how utterly generic and boring! The car itself look like the kind of cute car you'd find in the background of a Pixar movie - I am susprised that it is pitched as a rival to German premium sporty luxury saloons...

It looks great but (I'm sorry about the but), is it affordable? i.e. can the average UK person afford it? All these new EVs are great, but most of them seemed to be directed at the luxury end of the market. Affordable family EVs seem to be few and far between. Also the lid of the boot is tiny, a hatchback boot would be more practical.
It looks decent and that interior looks impressive with frameless doors too but throughout the video, my brain can't help to think that this is just a copycat. What a shame ...

My 2018 Skoda came with a cup holder insert to hold a phone vertically. No phone we have in the house fits, it's too narrow. I'd be nervous of any phone slot that shape.
I think it looks good although i would change the headlight design. When designing any car to be aerodynamic one is somewhat limited when putting design over functionality. This is partly why some people think the Polestar 2 and BMW i4 look better than the Tesla Model 3. The fact the Model 3 is lighter, more aerodynamic, and therefore more efficient demonstrates the company put function before design. I'm convinced as to the value of comparing one car against another in this way. It's human nature i guess..

Silly clickbait title. The Lightning Cat is positioned as a mid-market EV in China, price at only $25000 - $35000. The Chinese EVs that are competitors of Taycan are the Hiphi Z and Hiphi X (in terms of pricing and form factor), and they beat the pants off the Taycan in terms of design, tech, and actual sales figures. Even the Zeekr 001, which costs only a third of a Taycan, is more performant and more technologically advanced than the Taycan. This channel has absolutely no idea how uncompetitive the Germans EVs are in China.

I suppose we have no information as of now regarding battery size, range and charging speed. For me all these cars suffer the same design issue. They have massive front and hood that is lost space on an EV since the motor does not take nearly as much place. Automakers have to rethink about the car design to adjust to this new reality.

this is quite amazing, the center of attention the FCS has gotten over the years, well deserved I might add, to the extend they are chosen for the preprod presentation of a very important car for a Chinese brand to go, as Jack so nicely put it, toe to toe with European brands of old. And as usual, the sense of humor, level of detail and the story arch Jack knows like no other how to bring that to the table, as always a pleasure to watch and I am impressed with the quality of the overal episode. Yes also if you try to order the parts from China they might send you a miniature version on a keychain.
They are using a local importer and servicer so parts shouldn't ever be an issue. Full length sunroof is such a pain in the ass during summer time. You have to use cheap clip-on sun-screen to avoid being toasted like a bacon.

this is quite amazing, the center of attention the FCS has gotten over the years, well deserved I might add, to the extend they are chosen for the preprod presentation of a very important car for a Chinese brand to go, as Jack so nicely put it, toe to toe with European brands of old.
And as usual, the sense of humor, level of detail and the story arch Jack knows like no other how to bring that to the table, as always a pleasure to watch and I am impressed with the quality of the overal episode. It seems effortless, and that will tell you how much effort it takes to make such a high level production; so from Holland, a huge thanks and kudos to the entire team for yet another drip straight into my addicted soul!
