the trick to making waffles fluffier is the use of whipping the egg whites (at room temperature) and making sure they are fairly stiff prior to adding to the flour mixture and just fold them in. I make batches of them and put in freezer bags so my husband just heats them up for breakfast in microwave or toaster when he has to go to work at 5 am. Love your cast iron waffle maker ; rare find for sure.
It also makes the outsides crispier while the insides are fluffier. It's the way the pros make them.
Thanks for the tip!!!
That's so perfect. Quite the gadget. Very glad for you, Toni. May you enjoy using it.
I will, Thank You!
Toni I’m so happy for you that you got your waffle iron , I know you’ll enjoy making waffles on it for yourself and your husband , I love how thin and crispy the waffle was ! God bless ❤️🙏🙋🏻
Thank You!
Wonderful! I want breakfast for dinner tonight. 😁
yum!!!
Awesome you know once you get the rust off you can put it in your oven on self clean and it will get everything off then you sos it crisco it and bake it again at 250 about an hour take it out reseason wipe down good and bake another hour at 300 the number 8 on it means the number 8 inch hole on top a wood cook stove is where it will fit I collect cast iron and I love it think I’ll get mine out and do waffles this weekend. Love your videos Toni. ❤
Thank You!
I purchased one several years ago and I love it. I know you will be delighted using it too. We could gear the excitement in your voice when you opened it. Could tell you felt like a kid in a candy store. Enjoy all the delightful food you will produce from it.
I sure was, I have been looking for one for over a year now!
Hi Toni - what a lovely gift ❤❤ It cleaned up real nice and the waffles look yummy. My grandmother had one like that on her wood cook stove. You are definitely making me hungry - I’m just having my morning coffee.
Yes these were made for use on a cookstove...hehe...I may have to get one of those next!!!
Oh my goodness! I love the cast iron waffle maker ,I need to find one ! also watching you make waffles and eating it ,is my mouth is watering and craving! Great video love it !
Thank You!
Wow what a great gift
It sure is!
What a sweet lady to send this to you!!!
Can't wait till you get it all polished up and watch you use it. How exciting!!!
Thank You!
It looks great. Now I’m craving waffles lol
Good morning! So glad you got the waffle iron.
Thank You!
Toni I know you are doing a happy dance , iam glad for you.
Yes, I am!!!
Nice!
Thank You!
You have officially become a crazy cast iron lady (canadian branch)
WELCOME TO THE CLUB!! (US branch president) 🍳😆
Awesome, Thank You...do I get membership perks? some recipes perhaps?
Wow! What a fantastic find that she sent to you! It's getting to where I can't afford to make waffles because I make keto waffles and the recipe calls for 18 eggs! Granted, it makes a lot of waffles, which I undercook and freeze, and we only eat 2 per serving, but still. 😳 I grew up using cast iron, but I now have rheumatoid arthritis in my wrists, thanks to a certain pharmaceutical company that begins with P who caused it by pushing an untested product on the world, which I foolishly took, so I can't lift it, anymore.
Hopefully the egg shortage won't last very long...and that they are working diligently to hatch many babies to replenish lost stock! I know, it takes approx 6 months for the first eggs..so hopefully a worse ....6 months?
What is your recipe, if you don't mind sharing?
What a beautiful gift.
It sure is!
I so happy for you 😀
Thank You!
Whoa!! Nice. What a nice woman to send that to you. Looks like a Griswold according to google. Very nice. Waffles at Toni's.
similar styling, but not a Griswold...different handle on the base and an unusual 3 point claw for the plates.
We had one at the cabin but I think it disappeared. I love them.
sad!!!!
Congratulations on your new find!
Thank You!
What a treat to acquire that piece of cast iron ware as a gift. A bit of elbow grease and presto it's just like new! What a beautiful piece. I wouldn't be without my cast iron ware!
agreed!
That is so COOL - congratulations!!! I've never seen one of these though I remember my grandmother using an ancient *heavy* electric one - the kind with a truly ugly fabric wrapped electric cord. Your waffle iron cleaned up beautifully! Angel is truly an angel 🙂
Yes! 🤗
Beautiful !!! 😍
absolutely!
Beautiful!
Thank You!
That’s so cool
Thank You!
Wow, that is so awesome
It sure is!!!!
Very nice 😊
Thank You!
I have a stover number 8 with wood handles love it you are blessed and are a blessing to your followers.
That is awesome! Yes I am!!
What a great gift from a lovely lady! When I saw the pic of the waffle iron I said Oh she found one!!! How nice of Angel to send you that gift!!! Another “Best Day Ever”!❤️😘🙏🏻✨👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
That’s my six year old granddaughter’s favorite saying…Mimi this is the BEST DAY EVER! ❤
Yes it was 🤗
I am so excited for you!
Thank You!
Great job on restoring that iron! You will have it for many years to come!
Yes, I hope too!
"what do they know" 🤣 looks brand new again 👍
awesome!!!
Hey Toni, it's your Pikeville, Tennessee friend. Oh your waffle iron cleaned up BEAUTIFULLY! That's a treasure for sure. I've been scouting internet land and I have noticed a few things
1) All the ones I found did have the number 8 on them at least one place.
2) Your handles seem to place it in the antique area instead of vintage.
3) I'm pretty sure I saw a heat ring on the base indicating it's made for a wood cook stove ( in skillets anyway)
The Belgium waffle irons look .much closer to yours.
I'll keep my eye out for you,
ENJOY!!!!!!!!
It could have been a made by a Canadian manufacturer, and yes, it is made for a wood stove. The unusual feature is the 3 piece claw that holds the two plates together. Most I have seen have only 2. That would be great!
How generous of Ur Subscriber! It's beautiful! I know it will b very well Luved! 👍💞
Yes it was
Wow I didn’t even know they made those. I love my cast iron. Can’t wait to see it cleaned up and seasoned. Question. The longer it sits in vinegar, would that help remove more? So overnight would be too long? I always wash right after use and put back in the oven that is still hot to dry. I have my grandmothers cast iron from the early 1900’s. They are in perfect condition. So seasoned. I think about all the meals my family has cooked in these incredible skillets.
You can let it set several days if need be just scrub it daily till you see no more rust it won’t hurt it
vinegar is abrasive..so once the rust scrubs off that should be enough.
The waffle iron is awesome! How exciting!
How wonderful of a gift.
definitely!
😲 so awesome!
🤗
Wow what a nice gift from Angel Koch! 👏I love the cleaning and cooking demo. TFS👍
Yes it was!
You look so happy and excited in this video!
Yes, I have been looking for one for a long time, and although this one is unmarked and the casting is a bit rough on the base..it is in great shape, intact and completely original.
What a cool old waffle iron! Good save.
yup, cool and very old!
Love that waffle iron , Thanks for sharing.🙏❤️
Me too! 😊
It was quite a job cleaning up your new waffle maker, but well worth it, I'd say! Seems you're going to have fun with that. Nice!
Yes it was, but it was mostly just surface rust...and well worth the effort!
Woohoo! Approximately how many minutes on each side?
approx 5 minutes...but it is dependent on you stove too! mine is crappy!
Lucky you🙂
absolutely!
Looks like a pattern for a Crescent Waffle Iron by Fanner Mfg Co of Cleveland Ohio was used for the casting of yours. It's my understanding that in the old days a lot of smaller foundries bought used patterns from more established foundries to make their molds.
I took a good look ant mine and I believe you are absolutely right. Mine is more crude, especially where any identifying "brand" marks were removed..also the C, I suspect that stands for Crescent, is not in the handle of mine whereas the shape of the handle and the # 8 are exactly the same. there are other identifying marks that are exactly the same as well...THANK YOU SO MUCH...I am going to add your comment in the description of this video!
What a great gift! Thanks for showing us. What is oven temp set at when you put the cast iron waffle maker in?
It definitely is..I set it at the highest temperature...remember it does sit on a base so that it is raised above the heat element. I found this does take a bit longer to "cook" than my electric one...but well worth the effort!
Nice job. Looks delicious too !
Thanks, I love it!
Nice piece of cast iron. I think cast iron is like getting tattoos apparently most people don't stop at one. If it wasn't for insurance and new EPA rules you know a wood cook stove would be next!!
At the rate the greeniacs in the US are going with banning this that and everything, a wood cook stove is going to become a necessity, despite the fact they create MORE carbon!
I will have one if/and/when I move from here!
Seriously Toni, no maple syrup. Very disappointed. There's not a maple tree for 1500 miles from me down in FL and I will only put pure Canadian gold (amber) on my waffles and pancakes.
Anyway, thanks for a great cast iron revitalizing lesson. I have a skillet that needs a recharge. Perfect timing.
You did force me to break out my cheap electric waffle maker for dinner. We enjoyed with the pure stuff.
Yeah I finished the last of the "real stuff" have to buy more!!! I only bought the substitute for my granddaughters, they asked for it specifically ...what do they know??
Thank you for your video.
I like the rig, ... but still believe pancakes are easier! ... lol
I've never been into waffles in my life. The odd time at a buffet and that's about it.
Right now I'm into Tortillas, ... and I'm looking for a Tortilla press. I used to make Steak and Cheese subs and now I make Steak and Cheese Tortillas and fry them brown. Yum, yum.
I throw a little salsa in them and have a tounge orgasim, ... Oops! too much info.
Have a great one and keep up the great work.
I agree. I was never a fan of waffles because they take too long. Pancakes are okay, but French toast is my favorite! 😋
easier yes, but waffles are the best!!!!
To help remove rust soak in vinegar overnight
Thank You!
What do you call this type of cast iron waffle maker? Raised
I call it a true original..it is almost older than dirt!
I mean what are these type of waffle makers called that are raised? I see the other cast iron type that you just manually flip off the stove. @@HerHomesteadSkills
oh ok...if I'm not mistaken, what you are referring too is the base..it's a three-part system...the base and two iron plates with ridges...no specific name for it...but it has a base that the two irons sit on and keeps them at an equal distance from the heat source.
@@HerHomesteadSkills to bad these things are either so hard to find it really expensive
Crisco?
yes, Crisco, lard or the oil of your choice!
How awesome! Congrats!
I was just pondering what to cook for dinner. Waffles it is! 🧇🧇🧇
lol!
