  • With an opportunity to hit bike in the Pacific Northwest upon us, we weren't going to miss a chance to ride Galbraith Mountain in Bellingham Washington.
    Just a few ours outside of Seattle, this place is home to some of the best freeride trails I've ever ridden. Trails like Unemployment Line, SST, Atomic Dog, Pump Track and Evolution should be on your radar freeride bike trails are your thing.

    Dude I love your videos. I'm very much a beginner at MTB having only done it a couple years, and you're definitely better than I am. But, I appreciate that you leave in your apprehension on trails. I had a friend show me around Galby last summer. I very specifically remember the feature on U Line that you show at 0:50. Video just doesn't do it justice. I know it's honestly not that hard in the scheme of MTBing, but I couldn't bring myself to do it. Your videos are great because they convey that yeah, these things actually ARE intimidating even if video makes them look super tame.

      Thanks bud! I just gotta stay humble. It's not like I'm fooling anyone into thinking I'm gonna shred my bike harder than the next UA-camr. (Or even AS hard!)
      But I'm not having any less fun! Especially on features like that thing!

    Fun to see your perspective on these trails. Most of them I haven’t been on, yet. (I ride up the pipeline trail from my house a block away to get to Galbraith.) I’m glad you have the same experience of meeting difficult jumps on easier runs. After really riding a lot for a year I was feeling happy to hit the intermediate Cedar Hills Jump trail, but failed miserably. I’m older and it’s not worth breaking my back! I’ve hit the lower part of SST quite a bit, and I have to avoid some of those jumps, too. But that is one of my favorite trails. Also worthwhile if you like the single track in the woods is Bob’s Trail. Park at Whatcom Falls and ride up Birch Street for good access from the north. That lot does fill up, though, so you might need to find street parking.

Mover here from CO myself in 2017 and so far I haven't hit any trails that compare to Bham. Just when you think the trails can't get any better they add more trails and or features.

      @DustyTrailsMTB just race for the fun of it, man lol. No need to be competitive. And the festival is great! A lot of the trails have received facelifts since your trip here. I've heard of a few new trails but have yet to see them. Did you two hit chuckanut yet? Spacewolf? Das autobahn is a nice sort of short one that spits you out at Irish death and prison love. Supposedly, that's where a new flow line is coming in. The SST/Goldenspike and lower SST alternative are fun as well. Bob's is a nice easy going blue for everyone. El Pollo elastico, 911, tough love, mullet, cheech and Chong and Meth Lab are all great trails. All blues but all varying in difficulty but easily rideable with any capable rider.

    I bet you get this question all the time but whould you recomend down or upsizing on this one?
    At 5.10 (178cm) i fall right in between the ML and the L, talked to two different dealers one Said ML while the other one Said L so i didnt get much wiser 😂 Maybe some other Remedy riders here at 5.10?

    • @DustyTrailsMTB
      @DustyTrailsMTB  3 роки тому

      ooof. this is a really tough call. Dunno if you watched the review video I did for the Remedy, but I ran into the same issue between a large and xl. I like the idea of a bike with longer reach, so I thought, being between sizes like yourself, I might like the bigger bike. Unfortunately it just doesn't work like that. The Remedy isn't a long bike, and so, to get that longer reach, I had deal with the other measurements that just didn't fit me. I ended up with a Large. But it's all personal preference unfortunately.
      I had to demo the xl to find that out, and I'd suggest doing the same. The problem is it took me a few rides to come to my conclusion.
      Good luck on your hunt. You're going to love the Remedy!

    Just to comment, I live in Bellingham, ride here, and love it.
    I stopped before 3 minutes when you used 'sissy' to disparage yourself for not hitting jumps.There are better ways to rant at yourself than equating lack of skill or confidence, to being feminine. Not interested in supporting this content even if some of your other comments are spot on.

    • @DustyTrailsMTB
      @DustyTrailsMTB  2 роки тому +1

      Dude! I actually totally agree. I used "sissy" as an attempt to stay gender neutral because I didn't realize that word had any connection with being female.
      I actually make it a point in my videos not to attach lack of skill to a gender, specifically because I don't want anyone, especially young kids to go about thinking that girls can't/don't send it as hard as guys.
      Actually, one of my favorite things about living in Colorado is just how many girls here send it harder than the guys. We always have diverse groups of riding friends, which I appreciate so much more than just another day out with the "bros".
      So thank you for pointing this out. I thought I was making a point to stay gender neutral because I didn't know. Is there a word that's more playful than "coward" that you like? I'd love to hear your thoughts and keep the dialog going! 🙌

      @@DustyTrailsMTB Sissy is an abbreviated form of sister, and by 1874 had the pejorative meaning of a weak or effeminate man... so also somewhat homophobic...
      I guess one could say, 'I get frustrated (pissed, angry, etc.) when I don't feel confident enough to go for what I know on some level I am capable of doing/have done before/used to be able to do/want to do.' This keeps the comment wholly within the individual where the frustration lies, without comparison to something that almost invariably is derogatory towards some out-group. As soon as we use a phrase 'I hate it when I act like a...' there is going to be a put-down of someone or group considered less.
      If my frustration is with me, then I have the opportunity to explore myself, and keep the focus on what I see as being my limits/hesitations/lack of skill/courage.
      I'm a big believer in addressing my own areas of perceived deficit through skilled coaching and dedicated practice... as well as recognizing when I feel ok to live into a situation in which I don't want to get hurt and affect my ability to ride tomorrow.
      Be well. Seek out good coaching and dedicated practice if you want to acquire skill/confidence in a specific area. Time on a bike alone does not build specific skills.

      Yeah, I see that. I had no intention of comparing myself to feminine personalities especially as a means of insult. I thought I was calling myself a coward, which is internal, and doesn't put down any group of people. But I see my error. Thanks for helping me see that I should avoid that word in the future.
