These adventures rides are so rad. Your channel encouraged me to start biking again. After my old reliable got stolen I was so discouraged and couldn’t find the one bike for me but I’m back to riding! Thanks for the content.
When I lived in Eugene that was how most of the rides were. Climb climb climb up fire roads, then descend on switchbacky bomber trails with occasional pools of water to dive in, if it wasn't 45 degrees and raining. Glorious, I did it all on a rigid Yo Eddy and 2.0 tires. could have used one of those rigs. Now I ride a rigid 29+ and it can eat almost any trail, but I'd like a more trail oriented full sus...N+1.
Thought for sure when you stopped at the creek that Creek Cooled Caps would drop a sponsorship.

Ron might have been a bit over biked, your bike was probably better suited overall. I personally think a 120mm forked hardtail would have been perfect, but I am a bit biased since that's what I have with 27.5 x 2.8's

Bars are crazy wide. I'd cut at least 20 to 30 mm off each end.
I bang around on my Exie everywhere too. I do run a lighter setup with kenda rush 2.4/2.2 on nobl wheels. Most miles in one day-117 (14single track) 20miles or so with a road group at 18mph pace-all this in one day. Most miles at a cruiser at 12/13mph.

Nice video. Good to see Ron come out and play. Anyway, since I only own one mountain bike there isn't much of a question as to which of my bikes would be the right bike for the ride. It would come down to the choice of riding the bike I own or staying home. In my mind, any ride on any bike is potentially better than a day not riding at all.

I'm fortunate to have multiple bikes. I'm getting another rigid mtb soon, and with fast rolling 2.6 tires, it's what I would take on a ride like this.

Bike for that ride: Transition Spur 120/120 with 29” Maxxis Ardents @2.2 width….all day long. Great route.
Looks fun on any bike! But I’d bring my Spur. It’s light, and rolls so good on Ground Controls.

HardTail or a Super Short Travel XC Bike with faster tires.. Great fun you had there. Or, the bikes you had with just faster rolling tires
id probably take my 2017 dualie on that ride. has a 2x10 xt drivetrain. 2.1 rear tire and 2.3 up front. being a 2017, its isnt super slack, and with the big chainring, it can keep a nice pace on the pavement.

I was up at Falls Creek for the first time on my gravel bike. Definitely found myself underbiked too. I think I'd rather use a hardtail if I had one (hopefully soon).

For that ride, I'd use my IBIS Mojo 5 HD (27.5-inch wheels. I'm small and this size is the bomb for me).

BTW - the Kuat rack you have ( I have it too ) with the lights is having problems with the LED's. Kuat will send you different wiring kit to fix it.

Eh just lockout/firm up the suspension on the gravel and pavement, run rollier tires if you can. No such thing as the wrong bike provided you're not on like a DH or a TT bike. You can make it work, and that'll be the fun part.

so much of the first trail gets low traffic (I think) and is super bumpy, and so much of the second/longer trail are just more funnerer on a FS
