    Thanks for sharing. That may be a big help to me with my expedition that's having problem with the dome lights randomly staying on and occasionally going off. did the same checks with the door latch switches, dimmer switches, and checking across most of the fusses and only pulling a couple. Going to check as soon as she gets home with it. I'll let ya know.thanks again

    So how would we fix something like this? What did you end up doing, it would be some valuable information for those having the same issue.

    I had the same problem with my interior light not working.I pulled the bulb out and the metal end caps were loose on both ends of the bulb.So I had a extra bulb on hand cleaned bulb and connections put bulb in and it's working fine.I got lucky before I started to get into problem deeper.

    The original owner on my truck had reinstalled the light upside down so dome was on wrong wire making dome was always on. He also used wrong length screws. If the screws are too long, the light grounds itself making it always stay on.

    Well, you hit the nail on the head.
    Everybody watching this must have had the same foreign dumbass assemble their fusebox. (MY PICKUP IS ALSO RED.)
    Tremendous Thanks for your analysis, and, sharing.
    WE owe you a beer.
    Interesting note according to Ford advertising: 97 percent of all Ford F250's are still on the road today, THE OTHER 3 PERCENT MADE IT HOME.

    It would be nice if Ford made the wiring diagrams more accessible. What was the reason for this?

      Hello Muris
      First I need to tell about my Vehicle,its a 2000 F250 Super Duty 4x4,so if your Truck is close to that Year and Model,the Dome Light,Fuses and Relay may be in the same location,if not you will need to look on your Fuse Box Cover,as I'm sure you know that
      1} Check the #4 and #14 Fuses, in the interior Fuse Box Panel,and make sure they are good,also make sure they are making contact with the Fuse Box Terminal Connectors,so they will make up the circuit,because in my case the #14 Fuse was not making contact with the Fuse Box Terminals,and thus caused the Dome Light not to illuminate,I found that out later after doing a lot of other Diagnosing/Testing/Research,I actually started to pull the #14 Fuse out, and I heard the Relay click and the Dome Light illuminated I could wiggle the Fuse and it would illuminate the Dome Light
      2} Check your Relay make sure its good, you can ohm the Relays Coil,and also make sure that the Points in the Relay are making contact to make up the Circuit,or you can use a Relay that's identical to it from another location in the Fuse Box , and swap it out with a known good Relay usually there are at least 2 or more identical
      Relays in the Fuse Box
      3} I know you stated that the Bulb was good,but I'll go ahead and type this anyway ,make sure the Bulb is good ,you can ohm it to make sure the Element is good
      4} I know you stated that you checked the Wires, but I'm still going to type this Check the Dome Light Wires and Connectors,make sure they are not broken
      5} Check your Roll Switch on your Dash ,engage it/turn it on, to see if the Dome Light illuminates, I'm assuming you have tried that, but i need to state that
      6} Check your Door there is a Dome Light Switch that operates off of the Lock/Latches Cam,and sometimes the Spring loaded Switch will stick in a closed or non contact position you can spray WD40, and try to release the Switch,but you need to determine if the Switch is in a contact position or making up the Circuit because when the Door is open the Dome Light should illuminate if everything else is functioning properly to check the Switch you can ohm the Switch,you will have to locate the Wires to the Switch , you can take the Door Panel off the Door to get to the Switch to test it
      7} I typed information in #6 ,about the Doors Dome Light Switch,I need to say this if you have turned on the Roll switch on the Dash,and the Dome Light did not illuminate, even though the Doors Dome Light Switch may be stuck in a Non contact position it doesn't matter, because the Roll Switch should illuminated the Dome Light,so if you have tried the Roll Switch and no illumination then you have another problem
      8} If you have tested the Fuses ,Relay, Wiring ,Dome Light Socket , Roll Switch,and Bulb and you know they are good
      9} Then there is a good chance and more than likely its your{ GEM }{ Generic Electronic Multifunction Box} is bad,or the Circuit in the GEM, that sends or allows 12v to the Dome Light has a fault,which is not allowing for the Dome Light to illuminate,so this is probably your problem,again if you know everything is functioning properly then it usually ends up being the GEM
      10} The GEM is located or attached to the Back of the Interior Fuse Box, it will have I think 3 Torx Screws, that you need to remove, to detach the GEM from the Fuse Box ,you really need to unbolt the Fuse Box,from the Dash Frame ,to get the GEM detached though, because it so tight there's not much room,but after removal you can open the GEM up, and see if there are any visible problems, and you can also take a Magnifying Glass and look closer at the solder joints and maybe re-solder some of them
      also below is a link to a guy that went through a similar process as me and he detailed it and has some Pictures it will help you www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1011353-dome-light-not-working-tested-almost-all-components.html

    • @utsports
      @utsports  5 років тому +1

      I sold the Truck a while back ,so I don't have access to check the power Wires going to the Dome light.However I think,but I'm not for sure that the Wires travel up through the Windshield Pillar,so you could check, by removing the Pillar Trim cover ,and see.And, if you can see the Wires,then you could test those Wires to see if they are for the Dome light,and if so ,you could just tap into those Wires and run your tap down to power your lower lights.I hope I was of some help to you,with you,and thanks for your question .

    • @utsports

      If I remember correctly the Door Latch,.has a little Switch that is attached to it,And that switch allows the Dome Light to come on, when the Door is open, ,and if by chance the Switch has malfunctioned ,so that the switch is making contact and sending 12volts to the Dome light even thought the Door is closed that could be your problem ,but not for sure hope this information may help you thanks for your question

      @@utsports Can removing the fuse keep the battery from draining until the switch can be tested or replaced? Currently pulling the positive cable.

    • @utsports
      @utsports  2 роки тому +2

      @@alwilkerson77 Well if the reason the Battery is discharging, is due to the interior light, or the switch then if you pull the Fuse that controls that that should stop the voltage draw from the battery and keep the battery from discharging ,but you could have another problem as well causing the battery to have a draw and thus discharging the Battery,You can like you said disconnect the Battery Terminal,and that will keep the Battery from discharging, but you will want to disconnect the Negative Terminal instead of the Positive Terminal Hope this information helps you thanks for your question

      @@utsports Thank you for your swift reply! And yes, we have a Ford Windstar, and this seems to be a common problem. I really just needed a quick fix as my boy is currently driving it and doesn't have a lot of "working" mechanical knowledge yet. The only downfall to pulling the fuse is that the dash lights are on the same circuit. Headlights still work though...so we'll just have to make due until our appt. next week. I didn't want him to have to keep getting jumps or pulling the cable. Also, could you briefly tell me why we should pull the negative cable instead of the positive? Pardon my ignorance...I truly only thought the negative was the "ground" for the battery/car in general but didn't actually interrupt the flow of power. Your wisdom would be most helpful as I am a female in training 😅

    • @utsports
      @utsports  2 роки тому +2

      @@alwilkerson77 The Negative Terminal of the Battery is the ground for the vehicle, and should be removed first.The reasoning behind this is to prevent ,or neutralize any possibility of accidently causing a short ,so inversely if one was to disconnect the Positive Terminal instead of the Negative Terminal and you were working around the Battery simultaneously touched the Vehicles Metal body and Positive Terminal with a Wrench or Screw Driver that would cause a short I hope I was able to explain the reasonings behind disconnecting the Negative Terminal first thanks for your question, and I hope the person, or persons working on your vehicle ,will have success in finding the voltage draw thanks again for your question
