  • Practice has been tough on Eufaula Lake but a pattern is starting to come together. I'm getting fewer bits but they are bigger and I now know where to get them. I do need to figure out how to catch them during the shad spawn so I hope I figure that our eventually.

    MY PROFILE:
I started fishing when I was just a young kid and instantly fell in love with Bass Fishing. Started fishing tournaments when I was in high school and have been fishing them ever since. For years I fished every tournament I could enter sometimes fishing as many as 45 tournaments a year. I qualified for the Elites when I was 30 but didn't have the sponsors or money to compete so I turned it down. Got sponsor support later and fished the FLW Tour for 2 years and having been fishing the Toyotas since 2006. I’ve won 5 Angler of the Year Titles becoming the only fishermen to have more than 3 AOYs in the Toyota series. Won numerous events along the way that has helped shape my way into working for Strike King as head of product innovation. Along the way, I picked up a camera and started filming my endeavors. I have now fallen in love with making videos about fishing and delivering it to you. Follow along the journey...it should be an honest and fun ride!

The Strike Pro wake? That bait is super underrated, probably in the top 3-5 best regular crankbait sized/style wakebaits. I would love to see Strike King bring something to market that is like it but corrects a few of the minor issues it can sometimes have. To me, the Strike King 2.5 wakebait and shallow 1.5 are misses for that category. Something that can be burned without blowing out or getting too deep would be nice. The OSP buzzing crank models and Megabass ORC models are probably the only ones I'd put above it, but the price and availability of those 2 suck, but when that bite is on they're worth it. Strike King bringing a good crankbait style would be nice. It would also be cool for them to have a high end lure company under their umbrella. It seems like they're trying to do it with Mach, but kinda feels like it is more gimmicky and marketed to a much younger audience.

Was that wake bait an ole hunchback wake bait from strike pro?

I have a different thought sometimes about where your bites are actually occurring. That big one hit out from the bank a little ways, and you said he hit deeper. Sometimes I think it's not that they are deeper, but more that we missed them a little and they came a distance to hit it. I'm also wondering how many were fry guarders.

Fish rarely travel a great distance horizontally to eat something, unless there is a lot of commotion because of a feeding frenzy situation, or a super loud bait that they’ve not heard enough times to know they don’t want to eat it. Usually the furthest distance a fish will travel to eat something specific is going to be vertically, most of the time. If they notice a school of bait fish and there are other fish already attacking bait, or if there is a group of bluegill feeding on something pretty consistently and making a commotion, and they are near enough to notice it and get curious, then they will go there and see what’s going on. Same applies to a loud enough artificial lure, but it’s much less natural of a sound, so either they will avoid it or they will go check it out if it’s close enough. Or if you keep casting multiple times in a small area. But usually it’s not going to go that far in the time it takes someone to make a single cast, with any sort of faster moving, louder bait. It’s still gonna need to be close enough that they can locate it fairly fast.

@@HawgWyldFishing I don't really agree with all of that. I fish a lot of clear water. Sometimes when you get just the right angle to see on you'll be shocked how far they'll come to get your bait. Problem is not having the bait get too close to the boat before they intercept it.

On LOZ after the spawn and it’s sunny they will get under boat docks. Did you try any?
