Dan. This is a huge milestone for the château and you. Amazing work, skills in all.depts and how you keep doing it all and filming and editing. You are quite extraordinary at times. Well done on a brilliant week
Wow, well done! It looks medieval, the craftsmanship is superb. You should feel proud! Maybe take it down to two videos a week while you are in the thick of it?
I've spent my life in film & Tv prod. and never miss one of your episodes marveling at the harmonious mix of Brits who warm my heart and reboot my belief in humanity but I wish to salute dear Dan your stunning mastery of pre/post-production . Late 60’s woman here in Maryland USA. I’ve watched almost all of Dan’s videos and eagerly await his next “and I’ll see you tomorrow” video to see what else he’s accomplished. What an inspiration he is!
Dan has triggered an addiction to these types of videos. I’m not a tv watcher, per say, but I have been waste an uncomfortable amount of time on UA-cam nerding out on Raumpatrouille, some woman narrating her cooking in a language I don’t understand, and learning how to perform general maintenance on my car and home that I never bothered to learn from my dad. Now I feel like some slovenly couch potato bingeing on his “shows” in the middle of the afternoon! 🤦♂️
Fantastic! This is yet another example of why Dan's channel has become my favorite on You Tube. It is so gratifying, indeed inspirational, to see what one man working almost entirely on his own can accomplish.
Dan, if any of us thought you were merely a dedicated, incredibly hard working guy who might’ve held big dreams that seemed unattainable you have completely proven with this wing of the chateau that you are brilliantly making your dreams come true. The craftsmanship you’re putting into the frame of this mansard roof is incredible. Thank you for continuing to share your building journey with us!
I rewatched all your videos again. And realised that they were full of projects that were teaching you the skills to bring to your chateau. Clever boy.😁👍 Now, we' re expecting the Chateau to take quite a few years to restore. I ll be here for all those days I assure you. You're also very clever in turning the Chateau into your job. And at the end you will be rewarding yourself with a finished Chateau & gardens. I tell you what Dan, I couldn't be more proud of you if you were my own son. 🥳👍
Amazing Dan, that line where you say 'how can I do this on my own' sums up why I watch every vid! The determination and tenacity you show is inspiring. Can wait to see the whole roof up.
If you are interested in that sort of thing the Guédelon project is worth checking out, either here on UA-cam or in person. They are building an entire castle with only medieval methods and tools as part of an experimental archaeology project. It‘s fascinating!
I have been watching progress on tv since the start of the project. I also took on a large project such as yours. 30,000 square feet and completed in 7 years. would not want to do it again, but glad I did. one tip for your plastic covered windows. Use clear vinyl shower curtains. They look like glass and mine lated through a hurricane and were up for over three years before I put glass in. No-one even noticed it was not real glass.
The feeling you will get when you complete this whole project will be euphoria, even the small goals that you hit throughout must be an incredible feeling.
It's so hard to guess how long it will take. I guess you could live in it by the end of this year (so all walls and floors finished with a roof on top and windows etc)
Absolutely start a Topping Chateau Chaumont - Buy-a-Tile! project. And just think - no little bits of twine - no little velvet bags (as nice as mine is!), no address labels, no trips to the post office, no postage - just one more reason to hang off a windy roof in bad weather, putting the tiles on…after a zillion lonely trips at midnight, conveying tiles up to the top floor. Piece of cake and a tiled roof…some day. It is going to be GREAT. And five hundred thousand people holding their breath and losing sleep, right along with you. Bet you did not imagine all that when you were learning to cook. I miss your great music, but am sure that is just one more complication and time pit you don’t need, so no complaint. You introduced me to music I did not know about so thank you for that.
I completely agree with the person who suggested setting up a "buy a tile" program. Stephanie did it with stars to complete the chapel. Dan, we would all love to buy you a tile. What a great idea!❤
Brilliant idea Dan go for it I would buy a few. When you did your fund raiser you doubled the money from last year . There are so many more of us now and it would help fund some help. I know it must be great doing it on your own but you have a bit of a way to go so get some help.

Dan the France tourism minister should become involved in your project, tourists visit list will be the Eiffel Tower and the CHATEAU DE CHAUMONT to see how one man can rebuild a special part of their history. Keep up the good work but don’t become complacent with safety you’ll break a lot of peoples hearts if you injury yourself
I think Dan wants to stay out of the radar of officials. Especially the building and safety ones. Else he may need to build with permits, licensed contractors and up to modern building codes. Which will be a nightmare.

Dan You just blow my mind you are such an awesome craftsman. Too bad people don’t make houses out of mortise and tenon anymore. Your château will be gorgeous when it’s done!
What a pioneer you are ... the rest of the world would never have believed it could be done by one person. You,ve probably started a trend - single people restoring mansions.!!! You'll be in the history books or tapes, that's for sure.
Another major change, and it's amazing. I love it when you say, '' How can I do this on my own", then off you go and figure out it. I tell my friends I'm watching a UA-cam creator, I call, Super Dan. Well done on teaching yourself the new skills.

Dan is amazing and inspirational (I know I'm not saying anything thousands of other people haven't already said) but now that the roof is almost complete (we know how fast it can happen), I begin to look forward to watching how the rain will be harvested for the improvement of Chateau de Chaumont. Nick mentioned how the trees have been stressed by climate change. Can roof water help the trees? Can roof water meet household needs? Rain has been the bane of craftspeople; can rain be made to pay? ;)
You can DO it Dan. We all believe in you. I love that you use the tools at your disposal to get the jobs done. Good on you. The A frame is beautiful. Well done.
Lesa and Ted of the channel Chateau De Montmagner was the first with the offer of sponsoring a roof tile(s) with a name of your choice. My family had great pleasure in doing so. Those that visit way in the future may have fun looking for their tile.
You can only do what you can Dan. Your basically doing this by yourself Dan don’t get disheartened. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 I applaud you for all you have achieved this week which is beautiful workmanship, and a roof that will stand the test of time. Thank you, Dan
Impressive! I truly admire Dan's positive attitude. His ability to try something totally new and never complain about the challenges makes he an extremely rare human being.
You should be proud of that piece of carpentry. It’s a major skill and so well done And yes, stain or oil the a frames. It will protect them and look very nice in the finished roof space
What an achievement- congratulations 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻. Imagine how impressed your boys will be when they are old enough to appreciate the skills learned and care taken to bring life back to this beautiful building. Setting a great example to your boys about achieving anything you put your mind to. Well done.

We are SO impressed with your entire project as well as impressed with you and the caliber of your work. Everything you've done to this point has been to set that frame! Way to go - my wife and i refer to you as DAN THE MAN!. We both look forward to every new video. Give our regards to NIck and Cameron from Washing State in the U.S.
there is a project in France at Guédelon where they are building an entire castle using only medieval techniques and tools. It‘s part of an experimental archaeology project and really fascinating! Great idea. I'd buy a tile or two.

Rain has been the bane of craftspeople; can rain be made to pay? ;)
Dan can you hear me cheering❤
You are some boy...🎉🎉🎉
Oh Happy Days...❤
You can DO it Dan. We all believe in you. I love that you use the tools at your disposal to get the jobs done. Good on you. The A frame is beautiful. Well done.
You have every right to be enormously proud of yourself Dan! Beautifully done Dan!🎉🎉
Well done Dan. Finally it’s coming together. One heck of achievement on your own.
You're amazing as always Dan. And i've never seen you in a bad mood or curse and still make time for your boys.❤
Impressive! I truly admire Dan's positive attitude. His ability to try something totally new and never complain about the challenges makes he an extremely rare human being.
Well done, you. It's amazing what you have achieved with this roof. Give yourself a big pat on the back. I am not surprised you feel proud.
You should be proud of that piece of carpentry. It’s a major skill and so well done
And yes, stain or oil the a frames. It will protect them and look very nice in the finished roof space
I’m impressed with all the ‘up to date’ tools and equipment you have ….
I know that I am not the only one who is

What an achievement- congratulations 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻. Imagine how impressed your boys will be when they are old enough to appreciate the skills learned and care taken to bring life back to this beautiful building. Setting a great example to your boys about achieving anything you put your mind to. Well done.
Grany Arkansas,USA Don't get to post very often but I'm watching and liking. You get an A for the day's work. Just be careful, I can't get to France to catch you if you fall. You are doing great work.
Having been an artist on my own for decades... "How can I do this on my own?" ...REALLY resonated with me. Laughed out loud infact. I'm not incapable of asking for help, BUT...
Dan your an Amazing man! it's a work of ART. Yourr boys are going to be so proud of their father and how much he accomplished in his younger years when they grow up God Bless you and keep you safe as you work alone.

Long time viewer, first time making a comment. I am so excited watching this first A frame going up.
Same here, it's Dan the Man. From the Texas hill country.
Dan, you are the man. You make me keep going, especially out of my comfort zone.
Reminds me of that film, Evan almighty when he keeps getting a delivery of Gopher wood to build an ark lol.
That was very impressive. Imagine the 15th century craftsman doing a similar design with no power tools when building the old cathedrals.
there is a project in France at Guédelon where they are building an entire castle using only medieval techniques and tools. It‘s part of an experimental archaeology project and really fascinating! I went with the family a few years back and it truly is something to see! But there are some videos on UA-cam, too, so there is no need to go in person.
You are a miracle worker 😮 I am so blown away at how you accomplished this by yourself . BRAVO!!!!!
Lowers the A-Frame...............TA DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!! Very Nice!!!!
Dan unbelievable, what a massive effort on your own. You are so deserving of all praise. Bless you. 🥰
Fricken Fantastic Dan....you are just a marvel Sir. Love watching your journey and this is such a milestone seeing this part of the roof going up. You should feel proud of all you've accomplished so far, nothing short of amazing Dan ❤
Dan, what you are acheiving can truly be said to " Rising from the ashes". Brilliant, be safe in all you do.
Dan, so far all of the tasks at the chateau you have done all of them. You are Smart, Strong, and CAN DO ANYTHING YOU SET YOUR MIND TO DO. You've got this!!!! I have all confidence in you. Well Done!!!! You can do it, VERY PROUD OF YOU. !!!!!
Dan. So impressed with the workmanship you have done on this, such a milestone in the roof build. Congratulations!!
