The hooks are barbless so when they sling the rod back the fish flies off. Learned this from my Grandpa who used to fish like this off the coast of cuba.
Thanks for sharing I was curious

Thanks. I was hoping someone had shared the answer😁
Just how I like my tuna , flung into the air 40 ft and body slammed for extra tenderness . Lol
😂😂
Underrated comment lol
I never seen so much Yeeting in a video before
(Edit: Thanks for the likes. I didn't expect to get any.)
The water jet trick is brilliant.
Given other methods of harvesting Tuna, this is probably the best. Its species specific unlike longlines and nets. Its the most humane, as a bled and frozen Tuna dies fastest and experiences the least stress. It also appears to employ a bunch of people, which is always a bonus.
but it's most likely much more expensive
I was eating tuna in sunflower oil while watching this video, so now I should go check some sunflower videos.
That would be a completely logic and rational thing to do
Wtfff, I read this while eating sunflower seeds
That's a wierd thing to say.
I'll meet you there
@@huntereven7281 Wtfff, I read this whilst eating seeded bread
this looks like an amazingly efficient (and fun) method of fishing. it's good to see instead of the long lining and seining which can have huge amounts of bycatch.
Also give you one hell of a workout
@@cram1nblaze hello! Now that I'm 11 years older I look at this fishing method and my shoulder hurts
For some reason I just come back to watch this because it’s so interesting 🤣
This music makes it seem like the Akatsuki are fishing lol
Hahaha
Wkwkwk
Fish: I believe I can fly, I believe I can touch the..........floor, ouch
Oh my God you’re so funny!!!!! I’m dying!!! So funny 😐
I wish this was longer I could watch and listen to BBC nature videos for hours
Wherever they fish for tuna, this is how it should be done. The nets destroy the balance. The world needs to understand that.

As a comercial fisherman i disagree. The only thing that will save the ocean is reasearch, regulations and strict law enforcement.
Yes I agree. This form of fishing should be promoted at community level so more people are involved thereby improving socio-economic conditions of developing coastal states
this isn't a docu, it's almost art :)
yo eight years later bro pls respond if you see this that’s would insane

When the title said fishing the old fashioned way, I thought they were going to use explosives.
This was so fucking cool, the music and everything. Stellar
Its cool indeed
and yet when I go fishing I catch barley anything
same for me hahahahaha
Well they are creating an artificial feeding frenzy, no bait will beat that.
Get a nice boat mate .nice rod.nice bait and get in a good spot and go get em tiger🚤🐟🐠🍻
Use craft cheese or Valetta cheese fish love cheese
Hahaha
Can we just take a moment i appreciate the cinematography of this video. It's Epic!!!
all i heard was Benedict Cumberbatch talking about tuna, " hello i'm Sherlock, and welcome to fishing tuna with fishing rods"
old fashioned but environment friendly. also human friendly.. look how much people work there and get paid for their families
Lol. Just imagine if the A.I. has been invented. How many field of works and labors will the A.I. take over?
@@user-ym1bs7om9e Laws and regulations will be put forth to minimize or slow AI takeover for lower value/ easier jobs. The goal is to have AI do most of the work wile humans live a life of leisure... haven’t you seen WALL-E 😂😆
@@user-ym1bs7om9e umm, tbh most of labour work today can be automated, but if human jobs are completely replaced by A.I, the economy will crumble, as people won't have income to run the economy, therefore some economist proposed what is known as UBI (universal basic income) to solve this issue, which is still being studied to see the efect for human and the economy.
I was wondering why they were wearing helmets, then I saw the flying tuna
So damn satisfying watching them fly through the air... not sure why 🤷🏾♂️
This is the way.
I remember when I was a boy back in the 50s, there were Disney movies show commercial fisherman fishing this way for tuna. The very same way catching and hauling in and recasting to catch more.
One of the best sustainable fishing method I've ever seen.. awesome
Hunting Tuna the old fashioned way.. "Hey baby, what's your sign?"

this is insightful and knowledgable. I think all fishing should be done like this

Fun until you realise your doing this flat out for 8-10hours
@Zhjsajeje Bhu you’ve never done this type of work then. The word fun is never used by anyone in this industry. It’s hard work, long hours, very little sleep, running out of edible food and sometimes very little pay. But keep your fantasy going.
I hope you don’t suffer from sick sickness also.
That was amazing!
First commercial fishing set up that got a thumbs up from me.
2:03 got his shit rocked!, if I was a Tuna that's how I'd want to go. Bounces off deck as dude says population bounce back 🤣
I confused how the fish getting hooked and getting removed easily?
Halo 4sure there’s a big barb on it and yet there wiping them off I don’t get it
I want to know the answer to this as well! Is it a fake bait? And how does it slide off so easy every time.
Erik Evans yeah I’m stumped
I'm guessing the weight and momentum just rips theirs lips off, then get their brains smashed in on the deck. That'll learn em.
Rejith P at 0:17 it shows the lure there's no barb
AWESOME !! THANKS !!
We used to cane pole fish for speckled perch and bluegill back in the day but this is the real deal right here 👍👍
Why is this recommended to me after 11 years? Anyone else?
Fishing and bowling at the same time
This is the only way commercial fishing should be done
Definitely want to see more of this

I thought it was a military boat and crew fishing.
In my country we used to use this method. But those bandits who comes to our sea use and unfair fishing
Fresh ,very fresh
Their rods are incredible
Do they sometimes fall into the sea ?
Polynesian have been using this method for a long long time.
Also in melanesia especially some parts of PNG
I wonder how often they get a tuna to the face 😂
majestic.
Yes its time to start fishing this way, food will be abundant. No more trawling that destroys all reefs.
a very angry person, beware of your health. bad anger = destroys your liver.
Your easy food using machines will destroy everything, lets see what you gonna catch with your easy-to-fish trawlers when the fishes extinct. Japan water already running out of fish and now ugly giant jellyfish starts to float everywhere the ocean competing with the fisherman for small little fishes.
btw, nobody said you cannot automate the fishing reels? just stop the trawling.

Wow, i was mesmerised when I see that
better than net fishing.
how to hook in the fish's mouth foam off?
I know that I’m two years late, but I would guess that the hooks have no barb, meaning the only thing keeping the fish on the line is tension. So when they flip the fish over their head, the tension is lost and the heavy jig just falls out of the fish’s mouth
i like how just slam onto the boat. it's like BAM!
Im more impressed on how it unhooks easily.
barbless, when you yeet them up, it easily released once the string lose tension
We all know 700 people disliked this video when you seen the blood gush out the fish's head
Yeah
Need to put something on the floor to avoid damaging the fish...
@Halo 4sure Would you pay for damaged/bruised fish or the Good condition one?
Most of these fish are going into canned tuna so it wouldn’t matter
Maybe some razor blades 😝
Halo 4sure it’s more painful like this for the fish, let their death be quick and easy but not a painful roller coaster.
@Halo 4sure Im pretty sure those companies would still prefer a good condition one
I love fishing
great documentary and production

Plz use correct spelling for your comments, we are getting confused.
Trumpet Friday The guy is clearly foreign and has made a very impressive attempt with his comment.
If this comment is difficult for you to understand as a fluent English speaker, then I would recommend you back and spend some more time learning English too.
Maybe you should learn how to structure a sentence properly too, Peter!!!
Trumpet Friday And how did I structure my sentences wrong?
Also you spoke about making it difficult for people to understand what you are trying to say, but you said, plz” in your reply. How is that supposed to be easy for someone trying to learn English, to understand.
Ps: I never said I was perfect at English, clearly we all have our flaws. But you couldn’t speak a foreign language anywhere near as well as he can.
