The question "Where did surnames get started, and how?" popped into my head about 30 minutes ago. Lo and behold! I find the most in-depth answer I could've hoped for. Thanks a ton for putting in the time to make this video, or sharing it, if you didn't make it.
Great video, there are some strange surnames in the netherlands, when people believed that Napoleon's laws wouldn't last. That's why you have names like "naaktgeboren"(born naked) or "springintveld" (jump in the field).
Temple is a very well used name especially in Church(another name for a Temple),they were groundskeepers/laborers for the Templar Knights, that's where they took it the surname from,my other ancestors surnames I am still researching, thanks for this video🛂
“Hmmm that song around 25:00 feel very familiar... oh wait it’s from Dragon age Inquisition’s tavern song called grey warden something” Very informative Thank you :)
Have to disagree on the Day one, the Welsh word for David is Dewi, or Dafyd. The surname Day is more closely resembling the Middle English word Dey meaning a dairymaid or a dairy woman.
