- This week, we will take a look at a hot topic right now. How can you find accommodation in Denmark without being in the country? In this video, I will give you my best tips and practices, and how I'd approach finding accommodation from abroad.

Wow, really useful information, this is the real deal. Thanks for sharing. Are you a Denmark citizen? Not that it matters, I just wanted to point that there are so many natural citizens from these countries out there that withhold information and think every foreigner is going to ruin their country, we all know these types, right? You go for the opposite, sharing the knowledge and being welcoming. So thanks again. Looks like a beautiful country that needs to be experienced before one dies.

Basma Ben Said Hey Basma, yeah I would say that if you are not picky, it’s not too hard :) where are you from?
So I travel in a different way, when I travel I always try to stay for 3 months or more and live in the place like a local, not staying at tourist hostels or such, or sightseeing tourist traps, I avoid these. I'm going to stay there for 2 months on business for my company. Are there places in Copenhagen (or other cities nearby) like guesthouses (the name varies from country to country... it's not really a hostel, it's cheaper because you pay monthly...) where one can rent just a room inside a house or a building and the rest of the facilities are shared? Like kitchen, bathrooms are shared, only rooms are private. I lived in one of these before and I felt it was much less depressing than renting an entire apartment for myself, not always more comfort is what brings happiness, it's a very weird dynamic. It's cool being able to meet lots of people like that, and when you want privacy you just go back to your room, simple and easy. And usually cheap too.
Are there local classifieds where people advertise this sort of stuff? Or is everything done on the internet these days?
Not really sure wether I've ever encountered such things. But there are these things called 'sommerhus' or summer houses. People rent them during summer and make money on it. In the winter it's not that awesome because it's usually at the beach so the winter weather is more of a burden, rather than an advantage. Anyways. Maybe you'd be able to strike a nice deal if you'd rent it for two months as the owners are likely not able to rent it out outside summer (and themselves not using it). Best of luck. Other than that, we use Airbnb. Also check out those local FB groups where people are sharing flats when they are going abroad for a while. Usually it's without too high deposit and it's only for few months. :)
@@StudentSurvivalGuide That's a nice plan, yeah this is the kind of info you can only find after being in the place for a while. In South Korea they are called Goshiwon, in Japan they are simply called Guesthouse (there must be a local name that I'm missing yet) In Brazil they're called "Pensionato" sometimes, or "student rooms", you can find some of these near the coast for less than USD 90 a month with all utilities included, it can be an excellent deal if you have some kind of remote job for a while, and keep moving. For the classifieds, use OLX website, free ads free of charge. Some of these places are owned by ex-travellers themselves that miss that feeling of meeting all kinds of people in their daily lives, so they start renting in that kind of environment. It's cool because these people are usually more into it for the socializing itself, and not simply for a quick profit, so usually these people will not scam you right away, even though you have to be always careful everywhere about that.
I distinctly remember moving to my own apartment after living a month in one of those, at first I didn't immediately realize that I was feeling kinda depressed because I was feeling alone, even though I had my privacy, was dating on and off, etc. I learned that I am not so "independent" emotionally as I thought of myself, apparently we all need some socializing to keep us sane.

@@StudentSurvivalGuide In Mexico I was sharing this huuuge apartment for around USD 80 (1600 pesos, all utilities included) five blocks away from the beach, there you search for "compartir departamento" (share apartment) on facebook groups. But then again, even if the place was cheaper it was not that great for learning the language, it could be more useful going for the other place paying a bit more but having a family around all day to practice the language. Things that you can't always anticipate.
@@StudentSurvivalGuide I would love to join yes, maybe not showing my face or anything, just the voice call. There's one problem though, corona delayed my travel plans, I'm pretty much just waiting the situation to settle down a bit for me to get on the road again, and because of all this my english is very rusty at the moment, maybe next year I will be able to join in. I'm not a graduate student either, so I did all these travels on my own on a super tight budget, maybe that's what forced me to learn about these things. But it's more or less the same tactics for most major urban areas in the world: you have these places that rent for you without contracts or deposits, you just have to find how they are called in the native language. I don't waste time with real estate agencies anymore, that was a long time ago before selling all my furniture. All these stories start to sound like lies at some point, it's just too much.
