- This trans i believe was built by Jatco and is found in Nissan's and Mazda Vehicles. This is a 4 speed transmission. This Transmision had no 3rd and slipped real bad in reverse, the common clutch with this problem is the Direct or 3rd clutch. Found that clutch to be bad, It's been a while since i seen one of these transmissions. Thanks for watching and enjoy, off to the shop.

Super big help to see and hear the info and makeup in this transmission. I have an '87 (post 86.5 yr date of manufacture) nissan D21 Rwd Auto 4spd with 3.0L v6. Some issues are leading me to prepare to check over and possibly repair the trans. I know the trans control module has fried burnt board components so it's non operational, so I am currently just running the truck with the tran's TCM disconnected. Shop manual even discribes a trans test that implies disconnecting the TCM during certain trans driving tests. Without the TCM connected mine does not lock the Torque converter at any rpm or wheel speed. And it shifts to 4th gear without allowing throttle or engine load to deter 3rd to 4th upshift. I saw you gave your email in the comments. I will likely be asking you advice or questions in future months.
Thanks! I forgot which way the intermediate shaft goes in and I was able to see on your video. The exploded parts diagrams i've found show opposing directions and I was not careful enough to mark it on disassembly.

The rear assembly low and reverse reminds me of a C6 low and reverse clutch and piston assembly

32:45 Gary do you use your videos to help you reassemble the transmission properly? I have no idea how you do it, especially with units such as this one that you don't see very often.

Were you able to source a new converter for this unit from your supplier, or did you have to have the local rebuilder rebuild it for you? Are bands and hard parts available from Transtar?
I believe i was able to get evrything from Transtar

Great video on a unit I’ve never seen before. Were you able to find direct clutch steel, pressure plate, and a replacement thrust washer for the planet? Or did you have to make your own? How’s the unit working?
I found what i needed, unit worked great. My supplier had what i needed

hey Gary how are you. question please. i have a 2015 bmw F15 with ZF8HP45X TRANSMISSION and im looking for the O-RING for the oil pump housing and radial bearing in the oil pump housing plus the snap ring. can u please help me find the right part numbers and where i can buy them. thank you again

I purchase from Transtar, They have an online ordering called Transend, try that. Where are you located?
I’m up in Canada. Have tried transend but no luck. There must be a difference between the Canadian and US sites.

What happened with you?
Try to post every week but shop is so busy i'm working 4am to 730pm to try to keep up. Going in now for a few hours, yesterday did 12 hours

@@mikepittsburg6939 No have a shop with 2 installers, front manager, book keeper,driver and general mechanic who does diagnosing for me and we are packed, I do the rebuilding, can't seem to find a good rebuilder
it is based off the old school 3n71b original jatco automatic, it was Jatco's very 2nd automatic transmission model ever made.
It was in 1984-89 Z31's 300zx's, 1986-90 R31 skyline's, 1988-92 mazda 929's aka Luce, 1984-92 mazda RX7's, 1984-89 mitsubishi starion aka chrysler conquest's, 1990-97 Mazda Mx5 miata's, 1986-93 Mazda pickup's, and 1988-96 London LTI taxi's. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jatco_4N71_transmission

it was drag raced with in Austrailia in some mazda's and nissans
It was a group called Keas
back when Jatco built proper reliable automatics, before those piece of crap CVT's (catastrophic vile transaxles) came out.
