Nadia also had to do her magic on NO SPRINGS floor and no springs or leather coverings on the solid wood balance beam. Szabo would not be able to do her 1985 routine on the hard floor of 1980 Moscow. The 1984 Olympics really cheapened gymnastics. Instead of being artistic or graceful like how it is supposed to be they transformed gymnastics into acrobatic clownish acts with those trampoline springs initiated in 1984 L.A.
This is my favorite floor routine by Szabo. Nadia needed other music and other choreography, more classical, with long lines where she could have better expressed herself. But that's only my opinion.
must of the rutines with Nadia Comaneci is they were not long.. but always were unics. in other words. the moves were unsual but always the best... thats why she was the best. I'm not saying the others were not good. but espresing my opinion about Nadia Comaneci
No competition for me!! Szabo was the girl in the mid 80s and Comaneci was the queen of the late 70s!! They weren't even close in quads so why compare??
Mike M compare because they look alot alike of there face either though they have different hair styles and the did gymnastics in different year but yeah they were really awesome in gymnastics don't you think
I had to slow the video down after watching it at least three or four times normally. Hanspring front is actually connected to a hands free cartwheel. She enters into it forward and does a half turn in the air, I can see how you interpreted that as a layout step out, the half turn in flight is pretty much the difference between an aerial cartwheel and a layout step out.
No comparisson as Nadia's routine was NOT on a " bouce" floor! Nadia=Perfection as the dismounts were like landing on cement...before " bouce" flooring...just saying :)
@@cherrylove9142 Moscow 1980 was on a hard floor too, though. There were no springs in Moscow 1980. 1979 was a one-off at the time because it was in Fort Worth, USA and the Americans like to change and "modernize" stuff in sports all the time. Worlds didn't add springs permanently until 1983 in time for the revolutionary 1984 Olympics which turned gymnastics into a bunch of acrobatic clownish routines instead of being artistic and graceful. Nadia did modern-style routines on the original hard floors during her whole career. It was interesting seeing that 1992 NBC special where Bela Karolyi lectured Nadia in English (not in Romanian, which was kind of funny) about the new springs added everywhere and leather coverings on the balance beam. When I learned a few years ago that they didn't add the trampoline-ish springs at the Olympics until 1984 it made me appreciate real gymnastics of 1952-1980.
They're both great, but for me, I pick Szabo. Comaneci competed at a time when Romania was becoming a strong team. Nadia blazed the trail for future Romanian gymnasts. Szabo competed when Romania had a stronger, deeper team. Kati to me was a more graceful, well-rounded gymnast. However, the mid/late 1980s was an extremely competitive time period where many gymnasts could have become Olympic or World Champion.
I'm not sure of the track title but recognize the melody of . . .Jumbalai catfish pie me oh my oh , son of a gun we'll have big fun on the bayou " , , , anyone know the rest ? ? ?😀
Nadia was not that smiling vivacious girl here that she was in Montreal. She has no feeling in her performance here. She is simply going through the motions. Ecaterina Szabo has that joy in her soul that Nadia appeared to have in 1976 Montreal. Szabo has more grace here. Look at the very beginning of Comaneci's performance. How she's just staring into oblivion. No sense of purpose. Just staring...waiting for her to begin her performance. Very mechanical. I go with Szabo on this one.
Nadia has great dance moves with the music, it goes so well, she such strong champion, I didn't like what did to her at 1980's Olympic games, trying to her glory away from a true champion, she alway be in history one most amazing people in the world and well-know
Nadia performed this routine - it was hers - she owned it. Szabo tumbled better and had harder skills, and did very nice dance, but the floor springs were quite different technology from what I understand in 1985 than 1980 - hence more serious tumbling. So you can't compare tumbling only, because if they both did the exact same tumbling passes, I'd vote for Nadia. That being said, Szabo is a great gymnast, but Nadia still gets my vote on this routine.
Szabo had the more difficult passes vocabulary wise, but could not stick a landing on major phrases, including the leaps and turns series. Nadia was clean, knew where every placement should be, but the difficulty level went to Szabo. So, in judge speak, do you reward derived achievement? To put it simply, who should get the higher score. Someone who is exhibiting what they have been trained to do or reward someone that performs what they are told to do? In all subjective judging systems, the reward of “HOW” can be greater than the “WHAT”. Therefore, the higher ranking (rate and rank) should have gone to Nadia.
...Nadia is legend but not here...although Nadia a given was more cleaner and elegant this routine...however, Szabo’s dance and tumbling expression far more superior to Nadia’s...let’s be fair and honest...😔
The routine for Szabo did not match her movements. Great performance, but bad music for such floor exercise. I wonder who was in charge for that music Nadia like always spectacular and magnificent
How can we fairly compare floor routines 5 years apart? The only similarity is music. In my opinion (1980 in mind) Nadia: 9.95 (1985 in mind) Szabó: 9.90 ------- in a relative sense, Nadia : 9.950, Szabó 9.875
Lord. Both had craptastic RomBot music. Both deserved so much better. Szabo had the tumbling, but Nadia beats her on everything else. Nadia made that horrible muzak tolerable. No one moved like Comaneci. Advantage point to her.
@@marwahussein666 I call bullshit. Nadia did not have springboard floors. You are clueless about gymnastics. The apparatus booklet in 79 does not specify spring floors Another thing I want people to understand about watching 1980s gymnastics is how darn hard the mats are. The floor only just started having springs in it and I found conflicting information on if the 1979 World Championship floor had any at all (there is an article about the Rio floor saying high level competitions in 1979 did but looking at that floor ... it doesn't look to me like it does at all). The 1981 European championships are on youtube in high quality raw film with no commentary and atmospheric sound. Every vault landing, every dismount from bars and beam sounds like the sound department from an Indiana Jones movie was involved. Many countries, most notably the East Germans, competed with both ankles wrapped heavily ALL THE TIME and I do not blame them. When gymcastic covered the 1988 olympics they saw this as evidence of injury but I promise you. It was them trying to survive 1980s mats
If your comparing this one music piece then prob NC....but in general Nadia was not that hot on floor......her choreo was often bloudy dreadful and the Russians had better ballet training than her which showed!! somewhat overated on floor IMO !
The graceful moves and choreography is Nadia's mark, they are lovely.

Nadia Comaneci's choreography is way more very beautiful, elegant and perfect according to the music.

Nadia Competed on a dead floor, Szabo competed on a spring mounted floor. Its hard to compete in a dead floor than a spring mountef floor

True and since they added springs in 2013 gymnasts have it easier , before 1979 they were performing in cement pretty much

Who got the better score? and Who got the gold in this exercise? I will go whoever is the winner because that is the winner. No question
Both the gymnasts took the gold in the floor finals.
Nellie Kim beat Nadia In Montreal and equaled her in Moscow
Nadia Comaneci routine is more elegant & beautiful Nadia gets my vote!
Well, you have to bear in mind that Romania had just lost great coaches in Marta and Bela Karolyi and a great choreographer in Geza Pozsar.
Ecaterina Szabo my favorite

Ekaterina was more complex and modern but Nadia was more elegant, feminine with better technique and nailed the endings more accurate. Nadia wins.
what is the name of the music of the rutine cual es el nobre de la musica de la rutina
Kati Szabo gets my vote.

I like Nadia Comaneci way better!
Nadia e Nadia unica 👍
Kati Szabó is but a Hungarian name (approx. Cathy Taylor) and she was a Hungarian girl too though she lived in Romania with her family.
