The look of her getting caught w/ her hand in the cookie jar is priceless, he kind of demeans her a bit by carrying her over his shoulder.I totally get that she was indulging in a bad habit, & sometimes you do have to make someone aware they are doing wrong for themselves. I still can't help but laugh when he puts her in the high-chair, then throws food at her...pretty harsh I'd say, but hey, it got the point across to her though. This was the 1st movie that made me aware of body disorders.
This TV series was released in 1984 before Nadia defected to the US. When Nadia was interviewed in 1989 issue of Life Magazine she said this movie was a pure myth. Though some of the important events are factual.
@@clit_niblr0375 ...and maybe the competition number 073 on her back... Nadia herself claimed they just shot the movie without ever asking or checking any information with her...
I do recall reading an article in the late 80s, where Nadia claimed that Bella did not discover her in the playground. She said the mom went to the gymnastic school several times, asking she'd be accepted. That's all I remember.
@VibeFly I know you probably won't see this, but we do seem to agree on this point. That's an excellent point of why they had chicken, bread=carbs, no way, I'm surprised some pasta wasn't in there, which would have been my weakness, alfredo for sure. I probably would have pointed out that it was their fault for leaving so much food lying around where I could reach it (passive aggr). Bela's char. did seem pretty domineering, but that didn't mean he didn't care, maybe it's how he was taught?
@lkrause74 The bleach that period had not colour and had a very, very bad smell (it was irritating even when just smelled). So I have my doubts it was just an accident.
There sure is ALOT of good food to eat in that fridge at midnight hour...I was getting hungry myself with Bela pulling out bread, chicken, ham cottage cheese etc... just watching him....LOL! Ummmm..can you say put some good wholesome non fatening food in the kitchen for the gymnasts?? Why was all that kind of food their to begin with LOL
Yeah, considering Romanians were starving to death under the regime, as if there would be all that food, especially in a place where they’re not allowed to eat it.

@elisabetanistor Actually I think it wasn't suicide. I think she picked up the wrong cup because she was so distracted. The two liquids were possibly identical in color.
Gosh the actor who played Bella is so great. I remember watching this as a kid and appreciating his acting back then lol. Still great now.
Damn! Bela made me drop my bread. I don't wanna eat anymore either.
thanx for posting this i didn't get to finish watching this movie but because of this i picked up were i left off

Pretty much the only things the film got right was her name and that she scored a perfect 10 in gymnastics for Romania at the Olympics.
