Subvert, deconstruct, and preach. The Long Night as a show is a great premise, but this sounds like every awful fantasy adaptation of the past decade. Just self righteous morons who can't tell stories wasting ungodly amounts of money. This is not a problem that is going to get better by itself, so hopefully you and others will keep on pointing out this nonsense.
@@dees_good_vibes3391 It's strange that you think a show ending with an entire race of black people being turned into subhuman creatures would have gone over well. I honestly wish WBD would make the show, so that they can waste more money and inch closer to the oblivion they deserve. On the bright side I'm sure you're enjoying Rings of Power and Wheel of Time right now, so cheer up!
I was personally super happy when this got cancelled. I had a lot of doubts and skepticism around this concept quite early on. And in the aftermath of S8 , with how badly D&D / GoT butchered the Others / White Walkers plot , why on earth go with "Bloodmoon" , a Long Night centric project, as the direct GoT successor show. To make matters worse little to no source material to work with. And knowing the type of gardener writer GRRM is , sure he likely has big beats and much of this concept / era generally likely laid out but a lot of what they were covering GRRM hasn't totally worked out yet. At most , likely somewhat solid pivot points with room to garden / maneuver the way GRRM does. So this was mostly going to be made up borderline fan-fic. And GRRM didn't seem closely involved with this project regardless. So pretty much pointless for any of us looking for somewhat canonical insights & reveals around the Long Night. This just seemed like a total disaster all around. Opting for a near Hellenized style with architecture , clothing , names etc / on many fronts (why smh) , black people playing CotF (cast the black people to play according to this series the archaic barbaric people who get cursed to becoming basically animal like , oh my days). Plus considerable intentional weirdness to hide the lack of substance. This would have been a total dumpster fire. Thankfully that HBO regime in the series of takeovers and restructuring is gone , as to not be anywhere near adaptations in this universe going forward . Perhaps a Long Night adaptation could be revisited down the line but GRRM would really have to be a close collaborator , ideally more source material emerges one way or the other before this ever gets revisited. And given the difficulty adapting a Long Night concept (as there will likely never be an abundance of source material for regardless) you would need a real student and fan of this universe , similar to Condal , at the helm to have any chance of a successful well executed end product.
There were a lot of interesting concepts there, particularly the bronze-age Westeros setting. I’ve always been fascinated with that period and would love to see a story set there. However, some of their decision making for the story is fucking insane. A more interesting setting would be a few generations after the Long-Night.
Great video, please keep us updated with everything Bloodmoon as more info continues to come to light from the time on the set of the short-lived; would be case of lost media. Thank you! 🎉👍
I post this on every video about this, but one of my friends was an extra. There was a scene where there was a HUGE black painted giant hybrid that they were all attacking in a cave and it was INSANELY racist to my friend and he's not someone who complains about that. Maybe that was before CGI but it looked bad. 95% chance it was JUST season 8 fallout.
Wait a minute, wasn't the second actress to play Leaf Asian? Kae Alexander is Asian. Didn't they take her job away by casting a black person? And I liked "Spiderman: Turn off the Dark,"
I feel like thats a contradiction how could the firstmen only use bronze when its stated that the others hated bronze and iron the andals brought steel I think a age of heroes series should show the first men as more advanced than the andals let us believe
It was just so they could hype a prequel that made for the best sound bite during 2018 to 2019 before the sale to AT&T was finalized and it wasn’t their problem anymore
I’m actually bummed we won’t get to see Naomi Watts in something ASOIAF. I’ve always really liked her. Though I’m glad this didn’t go forward. Inserting your agenda before the story is typically always a bad move that benefits no one, including the groups you’re trying to pander to.
With the whole subverting expectations it's the cheapest trick for writers right now. In your one video about the original 5 pitches you had Long Night as well as the original Aegon pitch which wanted to make him an idiot to, you guessed it, "subvert expectations". And then we had Season 8 which subverted expectations and imploded in on itself. So we now have 3 examples. And the dumb part is we are already in subversion territory. The whole point of A Song of Ice and Fire was that Martin wanted to subvert Tolkien. So we are now in subversionception. A snake eating its own tail. Is it any wonder why people loved House of the Dragon because it just told the damn story straight. It's so damn easy and yet modern day writers are too far up their own rears to see it.

They want to subvert everything, even our precious bodily fluids!!
Purity of Essos
It's strange that the creator of this video went on and on about blood moon being god awful, but everything I've read/seen says otherwise.

@@TSHHVA24 i have no clue what you're talking about
Subvert Expectations
They keep using that word. I do not think it means what they think it means.
House of the Dragon subverted my expectations by actually being good .
@@cdhill17that is definitively not what "subvert expectations" originally meant 😅
I find that simply means the story is very badly written and lore breaking these days
@@gimzod76 but this is the literally meaning of the words 😅
Somebody break into the HBO headquarters and leak this and the unaired GOT pilot!
I wonder if they destroy them.
Also, failed pilot aside, I think Naomi Watts would still make an excellent Lannister casting

Great post. And yeah…Hellenized? The First Men are their analogue of the Celts!

I would pay good money to see both the original GOT pilot and this one.

I imagine it is much more like The Witcher's Blood Origin
Or the rings of power
I remember when we first heard about black children of the forest. There were idiots arguing that 'black people as non-humans' wasn't racist.
Even the mutant metaphor is iffy since it's more like owning a gun than being black.

Do you mean your friend saw a large black actor playing some kind of "monster" or creature? Painted and with prosthetics?
Hybrid?
@@thedragondemands5186human-giant hybrid
Ok wait.....was your friend the hybrid attacking everyone or was he attacking the monster.
Yeah please give more detail
Wait a minute, wasn't the second actress to play Leaf Asian? Kae Alexander is Asian. Didn't they take her job away by casting a black person? And I liked "Spiderman: Turn off the Dark,"
Well she was under prosthetics and this wasn’t. Plus they wanted Leaf to be a child this early
They wanted to subvert our expectations and go weird as hell? Then do a mocumentary about Sothoryos' flora and fauna. David Attenborough narrates
I'm actually glad it didn't go anywhere thank the God's for House of the Dragon
She looked so good!! And the chance to see a more accurate Casterly Rock would’ve been amazing
I wonder if Josh Whithouse was Bran the builder
Yeah probably
Lol can't wait until I never hear these writers say the phrase "subvert expectations" ever again
Worst idea ever.
