2018 Zero DSR Quick Take

- Riding the Zero DSR quickly turned me into a child. Laughing hysterically as I sneaked through traffic and by unsuspecting pedestrians, getting a kick out of the shocked faces on these innocent bystanders was one of the first reasons I enjoyed the Zero DSR, the second involved the R part of its model designation. I came for the ninja-like stealth, but stayed for the claimed 116 lb-ft of torque. Any time there was dirt in sight, a patch of gravel, an unbordered planter in a parking lot, I would bee-line for it, lighting up that rear tire quicker than the aforementioned innocent bystander could shield themselves from the dust. I’d like to say I’m sorry to the man in that car at the Rose Bowl parking lot who endured a large cloud of dust blowing into his open car windows.

Still a tough sell with the range, performance, charge time and price limitations of current electrics. They really need a revolutionary change in battery technology.
You know they (the whole world) are working on it. Stay tuned. These things are fun.
Joric78 its an answer to question no one is asking.
S M eh, I would have to disagree.
Agree
From the UK (which is, I admit, a tiny market) it'd be no good at all for a hoon through France (for instance)
Range is all and until then the market is pretty limited.
There are aftermarket charging options that will drop it to under an hour as well.
I got to demo a zero for a weekend and loved every minute of it.
am i crazy or did he not mention range, even once. Kind of critical with this kind of bike.
greg alford yeah, not a very thorough video. Sorry. Range is 70 highway (at constant 70 mph) and 163 city.
be more thorough! that's your job!
Read the article
Read the video's Title. It says "Quick Take"
Yeah it says "quick take" but you know.... range is pretty important lol
Whats the range though?
This was a good short video, but I'd rather see you guys test out the Zero FXS, it's a little cheaper with a hundred mile range, looks cooler too I think 😁
Amazing video....
What's the background song or music in first 2 minutes ?
Please please please please let me know.....
It's still a bit of a novelty and pricey as such, but I would like to try one. Looks like you can get it in any color you want as long as it is black.
You can wrap em for 250$
Test rode a 2019 DSR last weekend.. I'm used to a 2009 Harley VROD Muscle with stage 2 upgrade, and 2008 VROD Night Rod Special with Stage 1... After testing out a DSR, getting back on the Night Rod was no longer fun.. The torque, the silence, the lack of vibration, it's all so weird.. but super fun. The fun factor was truly awesome.. even at 20K, if you're not going to ever need gas, oil change, engine maintenance, etc for the life of the vehicle, which tends to eat up a lot of cash with the Harleys, and it's always fully charged ready to go every morning.... for me it's worth it.. Order already placed for a 2019 DSR with Power Tank and quick charger to use as my daily commuter.
The ride is addictive. You cant really compare the ride to an ICE bike. All the fun, none of the drawbacks, just you and the wind
The DSR has plenty of power and range for commuting in a real life situation. ..just not for touring. It coast about $1.50 per too charge.
Plus: No oil change, no valve adjustment, no radiator, brakes last longer from Regen. No chain maintenance,
No mention of weight ?
asSAuLT Lick 419 lbs
an electric scrambler?
So the front spoke pattern doesn’t match the rear.... who the fuck approved that design choice? That said, once the prices come down to reality I see this as very good option for many people.
$16K. No thank you
TJ roll tide
The price will come down. But take a test drive on an Sr before you comment
So I can't comment on any vehicle that I haven't used? I'd bet big money that out of all the people who made comments on here, less than 1% of them have ridden it. So only one or two people should be on this comment section? Maybe you should think about the stupidity of your comment before you comment. Just a thought.
And fyi, it's a test ride, not a test drive.
You ride an ice bike. You drive an electric. Fighter jockey slang
rated for about 160 miles of range with street use and about ~70 for highway use.
so you can get to the other side of LA and you're stuck...
I am a cowboy, on an electric horse I ride.
I am wanted, dead or alive.
That Is a $9k bike. Unfortunately we have to pay for R&D
That price point puts it line with other dual sports... what did you want it to cost? $9.99? :-P
Bryan Hallman this bike is in line with Aprilia Dusoduro, maybe hypormotard, Suzuki DrZ 400 SM. Not anywhere near an adventure bike.
I was thinking more like a Honda NC700X, Kawi Versys 650, KTM Duke 690; etc...
wtf are you talking about how is this pos with pitiful range even close to and "adventure" bike? what kind of adventures are you going to go on? riding around your backyard?
Does this LOOK like an adventure bike, dumbass? www.goaz.com/inventory/2018-kawasaki-versys-650-abs-scottsdale-az-85260-2137782i

Can it wheelie?
It takes a different skill set but yes
The price is the only issue for me everything else is more than what I need on a daily basis.
So I'll get one as soon as the price drops.
So you have a cord placed in a hole in the swing arm right in front of the wheel? That's safe. I guess they're counting on someone being hyper vigilant and never forgetting to stow it correctly.
I thought the same thing, but after taking the cord out and putting it back in a few times, I decided it would stay put. The fit is fairly tight, particularly when you're inserting it into the swingarm.
If you wear polarized sunglasses, do the sunglasses wipe out the display? It seems that for the price you’re paying for the motorcycle the display looks kind of weak And cheap, just my opinion.
I like to have it too.but from what I see its to high.if I ride it my foot won't hit the ground.if its lower.then maybe.I'll buy it
A perfect citybike...nice and narrow to lane split in between cars...also sits tall so ppl can see u
No traction control with all that torque is going to be a lawsuit.
Or just the most fun ever?
Right hand = traction control.
Over 100ftlb torque instantly you hand dosn't stand a chance
I fun = spinning out on a corner and going under a car then yes
Chris Hart then maybe teach your hand to not be dumb.
Bikes are inherently dangerous in comparison to cars, being smart and skilled is the only thing that stops riders from this danger. Electric bikes are no different
Tesla Model Z? E-bike? :)
What happened to his ears? Shit !!
That's what happens when you go full electric.
Less wind resistance with no helmet.
Future is revealing up step by step , believe it or not this is the future,
nice, I find the same appeal with electric vehicles haha
Sneaky and rowdy. Just the way we like em!
+Ryan Adams Who is this we? hipster tree hugers that are ignorant on how much do the fabrication of these bateries polute more than actual Euro4 compliant vehicles?
No, just folks that like to ride exhilarating motorcycles.
+hujimix For as much as I love internal combustion engines and wish you were correct, sadly you are not.

Note where it says over the course of the average lifetime of a vehicle, EV's generate half the emissions of their ICE counterparts. I'm sure the difference is even more pronounced for motorcycles, which are known to pollute far more than traditional automobiles.
No mention of range which is arguably the most important subject. Very amateurish not to mention that.
Jimmy Haggard how many gas bike reviews talk about range?
Greg Hassler none that I've seen but when one can stop at a gas station, refill and be on the road again in less than five minutes, range really isn't an issue on gas bikes. Likewise, if batteries could recharge as quickly as filling a tank with gas then range wouldn't be an issue on electric bikes either. But they don't, so it is.
Jimmy Haggard the other angle on that is you always start your day fully charged. You don't get caught off guard, and most days it's not an issue.
@@GregHassler Give me a break. How far will you guys bend over for intentionally withholding critical info? This was no accident.
@@mikes1873 withholding critical info? LoL he just did a video review, if you're interested in the bike go look up the specs. He's not your mommy.
would rather buy a dr650 for 1/3 the price. seriously who are these types of bikes supposed to attract? they are way to expensive for what they are.
KoG GoK I would rather spend $16k for this bike than 1/3 for a DR650 which hasn't evolved since like '92.
Oh wait, I did.
bet its fun parking at the starbucks down the street from your house then going back home to plugin your bike =). me on the other hand i enjoy having a 350 mile range before i need to fuel up. you can find lots of nice hidden trails around the mountains. btw its pretty funny that you mention 1992 drs i do see alot of them on the road still come back in 25 years and let me know if that zero is still working.
KoG GoK to be clear, this bike goes further on a charge than a stock DR650 goes on a tank. Doing 350 mile days isn't a big deal, it's pretty common for Zero owners to do 400-500 in a day.
The last thing I would want to do on a DR650 is 350 miles. Good lord. I'm surprised it goes that far without shaking itself apart or needing a valve adjustment.
wtf are you talking about? the specs are clearly listed on the zero webpage are you just pulling numbers out of your ass? 400-500 miles a day on a zero bike? wtf do you do carry 4 battery packs with you?
the only one i was interested in was the supermoto and it has a highway range of 20 fucking miles and 50 city double i you get the more expensive version
shit just goes to show you that people like you have absolutely no idea what they are buying.
KoG GoK add the power tank and you're getting 120-130 highway miles, more at slower speeds. Add fast chargers and charge up in an hour or two. I'm telling you people do it literally everyday.
Hi, will you be my friend, friend?
Ahhhhhg, i hate to say it, but im sorry, for 16 grand? Im gonna buy a ktm super duke. and im gonna have a wicked wild time as i ride that thing to every speeding ticket hearing id likely get.
Yup and after you junk 3 super dukes and spend a fortune on maintenance the Zero will still be going strong. Expensive up front, cheap as hell in the long run.
See his ears carefully.👂🤣
Kalpana Patel aerodynamic.
Not a fan of electric bike
No problem Heinz. Test one and see if you arent grinning.
This or a KTM 1290 Superduke R
Like is KTM
Comment Electric motorcycle
Nope to the Nope Nope!!!
Nope never. When they outlaw gas powered bikes ill be hanging up my helmet.
No way, man! This bike is a ton of fun and they'll just keep getting better, and to Rory's comment, I hope they start looking better, too. I'm not a big fan of the DSR's styling.
Exactly. Electric motorcycle? An answer to a question no one is asking. Focus on the heavy hitters. Move the needle.
Rory Nicholson hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.............ha!
It's already outlawed by 2040 in a number of countries. Take a read here. Your days are numbered haha!
