    I do rinse my meat (mainly chicken and fish) my grandad was a health inspector so he always told us to place the meat in a bowl with lemon juice and water and a little bit if salt levels for a couple minutes and then drain it out. Just helps to get rid of blood and extra bacteria that can not be removed during cooking. It also tenderizes the meat and allows flavors to penetrate better 😊❤ love your videos by the way

    I love you attitude about the negative comments!! It always amazes me when people think they have the right to tell others what to do. I also find it strange that in today’s world moms feel they have to explain or reason why the homemake backed goods. It is so hard to find food prep videos to watch that are well balanced and I so enjoy watching yours 💜 we either feed the strawberry ends to our small pets or compost them. I am going to make the ham salad it looks like a nice change from chicken or tuna salad. I love the glass divided bento boxes and plan to get some as we are slowly moving the plastic out of the kitchen, so thanks for the link.

    I am 22 and I do rinse my chicken and seafood but only because I remember my mom doing it while I was growing up lol. This is actually something I was just recently talking with my college roommates about and we came to the consensus that we all do what we remember our mothers doing! As for ham salad, I have never heard of it here in NC however I am thinking about making it because I love ham and tuna/chicken/egg salads. Another great meal prep video Jen, thanks for sharing!

    I love your meal prep videos! My grandma used to make ham salad with a meat grinder on the counter when I was a child, too! . (I’m from the Midwest also actually Michigan.) Also she used to make ‘pickle wraps’ with dill pickles that she’d canned herself (Cream cheese spread thin onto sliced ham and a pickle rolled up in the middle), I just made them last weekend and they are extremely low carb and super delicious. I look forward to your next meal prep video!!!

    I don't cut the tops off the strawberries like that, but putting them in to flavor water is a good idea too. it takes a tiny bit more time but I just use the curved paring knife thingy and cut just the green top/little core out so I don't lose any of the yummy strawberry goodness.

    My grandma has a stainless steel hand grinder as well that she uses for ham salad! As well as a green pepper and sharp cheese spread. She grinds the peppers and blocks of sharp cheddar, adds mayo and a few other things I am forgetting. There's nothing better than grandma's cooking.

    Our Grandmas must have been raised around the same time. She had the same meat grinder and ham salad is something we all loved. My grandma would even grind up left over roast beef and make roast beef salad, it was freakin awesome.
    I do not rinse my meat.

    I used to wash my meat because of the sliminess but after reading some information advising on otherwise, I’m not doing it anymore now I just add lime juice to decrease viscosity. Washing meat is not advisable since splashing water increases the chances of bacteria spreading throughout the counter and other foods.

    I swear, people just have to criticize! WTF? It's your house, your food and your family, what business is it of anyone's to tell you how you should be doing things? No, I do not save my strawberry tops for anything other than to give to my chickens. They love them!!! I wash seafood and chicken only if it's yucky when I take it out of the package. All of those salads look so stinking good! I'm from Indiana and grew up eating ham salad. My meemaw used to put a bit of cream cheese and a bit of Velveeta in it. My mamaw made hers a bit sweeter. Loved them both and it brings back great memories of sitting at their table eating ham salad and white bread sandwiches! I love seeing the little cameos of your family! I personally don't cut off strawberry tops most of the time since my kids are pretty good about eating them down to the stem, but whenever there is extra strawberry "meat" left to them I give them to our dogs as a treat. I try to give all produce scraps (that are dog safe) to our dogs just to throw a little mix into their day and also to avoid wasting because I HATE putting food in the trash - even scraps. Flavoring water would be a good idea if you like flavored water and have one of those infuser attachments. Smoothies kind of weirds me out too for some reason

  • @risasklutteredkitchen1293
    @risasklutteredkitchen1293 5 років тому

    i love the Brilliance containers too. They are terrific. I don’t like using them in the microwave though. They get super-hot. I also love the vinegar/water cleaning. I have started doing that too.
    I do not save my strawberry tops. If I feel like infusing water with strawberry, I just put some sliced strawberries in some water and let it sit for a few hours and then I strain them out, I will use them in smoothies so I don’t waste them.
    i do not wssh my meat. You can get germs everywhere if you do that. I don’t take any chances of getting salmonella or something all over so I don’t. If you cook it to the correct temperature there is no chance of anyone getting sick,

  • @d8d810

    13:25 I don't rinse meat before I cook it. The reason they don't recommended rinsing it is because it can contaminate your sink and any other area it drips on with salmonella or e coli.

    Jen, I'm sure your research told you that if you do rinse your chicken it spreads any bacteria (bacteria that is killed by cooking) from the surface of the chicken to all the other surfaces of and around you sink increasing the risk of food poisoning. I think that is the important part that people miss in the rinse or not to rinse argument.

  • @cassys777
    @cassys777 5 років тому

    #1, you are definitely one of the cleanest and neatest meal prep people on UA-cam! I did research on this, too, and it is recommended NOT to wash chicken because it can spread and splash salmonella germs pretty far across your kitchen and they did black light demos on this. Plus, if you cook your chicken to the temp recommendation then you will kill the germs on the meat before it’s eaten anyway. Great video! Thanks for sharing!

  • @lisaharris5938
    @lisaharris5938 5 років тому +1

    I think I agree with everyone else, your meal prep videos are my favorite. I do not rinse my meat, any of them. I have just done research and found out that it doesn’t do anything that cooking doesn’t do. But it can cause other things with the bacteria around the kitchen. Also with the knife, you don’t have to have a super expensive knife. Just get a good one and take care of it. If you cut citrus always wash your knife right after you cut the citrus so that acid doesn’t pit the metal. My dad used to do the same thing with the meat grinder, but he would use chunks of bologna and then celery, mayonnaise, onion.

    First of all, thank your for using your air fryer, I'll get mine soon. I'm from the Caribbean we're used to wash all the meats with lemon, vinegar or bitter orange. After reading some stuff online after some years now I only wash my meat if needed lol but I make sure to clean my sink pretty well with either clorox or vinegar. I have 12 years living in the USA in the South, so we love the ham salad.

    Yes, I am a chicken rinser. LOL Whether it's boneless or chicken parts, I always rinse it & pat it dry. I don't like how poultry or meat sits in a tray on those absorbent pads that hold the blood/juices while it touches the meat. Just something that bothers me. So for me, as I wrap meat or chicken for the freezer, it's easy to rinse it off, place on a paper towel, pat it dry & wrap. And I am a ham salad fan. It's not a usual thing here on the East Coast, but years ago my local deli made it & I was a fan ever since. Most I talk to here never heard of it or ate it. It's like Taylor Ham is here in NJ -it's a meat we can't live without, but most of the country has no idea what it is. A Taylor Ham, egg & cheese on a heard roll is the breakfast choice for anyone in NJ. Thanks Jen.

    I have always thrown my strawberry tops away, or sometimes I throw them out by my bird feeders for the birds. I only rinse chicken when it seems like it needs it. As for ham salad, my goodness, here in Texas it turns up at lots of family and church dinners. I think lots of people who live in the South know about ham salad. I am low carb and I get great recipe ideas from you. I’m sorry people make mean comments, I don’t understand that, you are so lovely and sweet. Keep up the good work and ignore all those critics.

    No I don't save my strawberry tops. But I also only cut the green leaf out with a pairing knife (no fruit comes w/it) so no point to save leafs. I rinse chicken as needed and I always rinse shrimp, but that's all. It freaks my friend out that I don't rinse everything including ground beef. Oh goodness, I have so much to say. I loved this meal prep.
    Ham salad. Lived in Chicago area and went to college in Central Illinois and never have I ever....but! My dad died last year. He was a chef at one point, and was a Jewish man born and raised in Brooklyn. I wasn't there for it, but apparently as the end was near, he was yelling at someone that he was making the ham salad all wrong. 🤷🏻‍♀️ It cracks me up because if I never ate ham salad, I'm not sure where he did or how he would know it was made incorrectly. (Can you mess it up?)
    I would love 2 different meal prep videos:

    Hi Jen, I love your meal preps. Strawberry tops I bin. Coming from UK never had ham salad like that but I’m going to try it look so tasty. Until I watched your vlogs I never washed all my fruit in advance, hence did throw some away, but I do wash after I have been shopping and know my husband always dips in fridge on passing , so I don’t waste any. Thanks for tips. Xx

    Have you done a refrigerator organization video showing how you store it after a meal prep like this?

    I don't save my strawberry tops. I only cut the green off or I bite all the way to the green if i dont cut them.. And i dont clean my meat. I only clean my chicken the next day if it is slimey after I put it in a container.. I love this salad spinner..

    I do rinse my meat and pat it dry....just my preference, but no judgement to those who don't.....I do not save my strawberry tops....after watching your videos, I purchased the salad spinner, I love it and use it several times a week....no matter the content, I enjoy all your videos....

    I agree with u.. even tho we do sometimes buy store banana muffins, I do believe that homemade is healthier regardless of how u make them.. my kids are picky and I finally found a recipe that they love so I just make it every other weekend if I can instead of buying premade

    I love to watch you chop lettuce! I tried...my knife just kind of beat it senseless, so think I need to sharpen or purchase a new knife! Last I read, washing your chicken spreads more bacteria and isn’t recommended, but guess case by case basis. Pork chops with bones sometimes have bone slivers from going through the saw, so I do give them a little rinse. Now I believe I really need some ham salad!!! ♥️🐾

    Good morning 🌞 I do not rinse my meat, good grief,if cooking it doesn't kill whatever is in it,we are all screwed😂

    You may have answered this somewhere but I’ve always heard you shouldn’t wash your berries until right before you eat them. Do you notice any impact to the berries when you prep them ahead of time like this?

    I would only save strawberry tops if I had a compost for the garden. =)

    A good tip to not have to keep getting a clean spoon to try something is to keep one and use the mixing spoon to put some on the spoon you are eating it from☺

    I never have any strawberry tops because of the way that I cut them but I would probably use them to flavor water if I did.

    I have never rinsed chicken. I do always make sure chicken is cooked thoroughly so I feel like rinsing it is unnecessary. Also, here in West Virginia, we eat ham salad and it can be found at almost any deli!

    Oh yeah, meal prep vid! I don't save strawberrie tops. I used to rinse off my chicken,like 20 years ago. But not anymore. I'm sure I got that idea from my Mom and Grandma. People are so rude that they tell you your nasty! Connor sneaking the fruit lol! Craving Greek now, love that idea for work lunch. Love that yellow bowl :)

    No to saving strawberry tops. That idea sounds really weird to me too. Mine get tossed in the garbage.
    Connor is adorable - sneaking the fruit. It’s awesome he loves it.

    Roughly how many hashbrown patties would fit in the air fryer? I like the concept of those things but they don't seem like they would hold much.

      I think you could fit 6, I would turn them halfway through though
