FFXIV's character creator is still out of date in 2024...

The side by side comparison features FFXIV's out of date character creator and PSO2NGS's character creator.
Keep in mind that PSO2NGS is rated "M" (Mature) and FFXIV is rated "T"(Teen) by the ESRB. This would explain why some features aren't in FFXIV's character creator while also highlighting how out of date the character creator is on FFXIV compared to other MMO character creators.
I hope that in the future they will at least add more face options, enhance the boob slider, add a thigh and booty slider and allow players to actually adjust the anatomy of our characters.

preach, its sooooo long over due. Its an archaic system, they CERTAINLY are adding QoL to gameplay. We've seen that with DoT/CD timers and Blacklist and SOON raid planner thingy.
I kind of agree that the character creator could use more options and more freedom, but I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t weird to hear someone’s primary complaint be that they can’t make their cat girl “sexy” enough. I love this community, sometimes, but there are just as many times that it makes me sad.
It's more of sarcasm than anything when I say "I want to make a sexy cat girl". What I'm really saying is that there should be more character creation options added..
1:28 I wouldn't say it really all that risky if you just be quite about it and don't post videos/pictures with your full name and data center out or everyone to see but for some reason people can't keep that they mod to themselves! I really wish more people adopted the fight club mindset because it really urks me whenever I see modded screenshots on more official stuff because it make ME look bad as well since I'm a modder.
I actually have respect for modders. And due to people sharing stuff I've seen things I'm sure I shouldn't have. Like when those "nude" FFXIV mods leaked and everyone got their hands on the screen shots.
It was so bad to where Yoshi P addressed it in a live letter asking players not to share images of said mods.

Even despite the lack of body customizations, cause I can somewhat understand the devs not wanting to redesign every outfit in the game to fit more body proportions, the fact that there are only like 4-6 face presets for every goddamn race is criminal. AT LEAST give us like 8+ to add some form of uniqueness to the game. Can't even go more than 30 minutes as any race in this game without seeing someone that looks like their character is somewhat related to mine or just a straight up clone cause barely any face customizations. Hell even other NPC's in the story looks like our characters a lot. Takes me out of the immersion and annoys me every time I see it. Like a small change that could make every race in this game more unique for each player is to add more beard options and adding that goddamn Derplander stubble for every male race in the game and for women add more make up options. Modders can do it, why can't Square Enix do it as well. It's so easy to do and that alone can automatically make most people's characters at least look more unique. Square is just giga lazy
I like the character creator in Black Desert a bit more than PSO2NGS's. And not only that a side by side upgrade with the character creator and Glam system upgrade would be nice. I just want to make a character that doesn't look like a clone so i get it.
The character creator on BDO is very in depth. Like they allow you to actually change different parts of your facial structure. That also includes limbs like your fingers and stuff. If I had to say so I would say that BDO's character creator is slight more advanced that even NGS'S while FFXIV'S is still running the pick and choose preset set up.
Video needs more views. This needs more attention.
I had some Final Fantasy fanatic call me a "brat " for complaining and say the character creator on FFXIV is perfect the way it is now.
FFXIV has some other issues that are more pressing than the character creator and the whole game would have to be built from the ground up to implement something like PSO2:NGS or similar.
Which is why I would have heavily preferred if instead of a visual update for 7.0 XIV ended with Endwalker and they had started working on the next FF MMO with a proper and solid foundation to do all the cool things they can't due to spaghetti code and the rushed development of ARR.
Lmao like me and another person said they need to either upgrade the engine the game is running on or sunset the game and start working on a new FF MMO on a new engine.
It's not like they won't do it. The character creator is still set in the old engine and they can't really change much in terms of how it approaches character creation. Plus, they still have to factor the limitation of consoles, so PS4 is still the bottleneck for the game minimum standard. The only way they can introduce sliders and better character creation is you have to wait until the next generation MMO from Square Enix, so that would probably be FF17 or FF18, and hopefully, they won't do another proprietary engine. I'm sure someone on their team did a mockup of how the new character creation would look and be implemented for FF14 but the overhaul would require a whole new engine to be made most likely (which would require overhauling all of 2.x and then some).
I would agree that an engine update would be necessary for the implementation of a more advanced character creation however they can add to the existing system they have now, in which I'm sure they will as FFXIV continues to receive updates.
They can continue to add more preset facial options. They can add or enhance the bust slider and add the butt slider everyone wanted. They can continue to add different hairstyles. All this is the bare minimum they can do on this current outdated character creator. As for PS4 I believe a lot of companies will begin to move away from it as it becomes more obsolete and more players move to PS5 and beyond. At this point if you don't have a PS5 then that's a "You" type of deal.
