  • I had just learned of Mount Moriah Cemetery the day that I went and vlogged it. I found it hard to believe that a cemetery this size (200 acres) would be abandoned. It was sad to see head stones knocked over and broken as well as tall grass, weeds and shrubs growing everywhere. Although it was a very hot day when I went, I'm so glad that I did because it was fascinating and sad at the same time. I plan on going back some time because I didn't get to see all of it. By the way, the only sign of life I saw was during the end of my vlog. That's when I encountered a young doe grazing in the grass (I called her Bambi). She wasn't startled by me at all.
I hope you find this historic abandoned cemetery as fascinating as I did. Thanks for watching! Be sure to subscribe to my channel and click the notification bell, that will keep you in the loop for my future adventures. ✌ and ❤

I visited Mt. Moriah cemetary in Deadwood, SD. Wild Bill Hickok, Calamity Jane and Seth Bullock are buried there.

While I was researching Mt. Moriah the one in SD came up, too. I saw that Wild Bill was buried there. Betsy Ross was buried at the one in Philadelphia along with her third husband, John Claypool, but in 1975 they moved her remains to the Betsy Ross House.

Wow. How sad that there are so many gravesites in disarray. Thankfully, it looks like some improvements are being made and, hopefully, the cemetery will eventually get back to its original condition.

I could tell some areas of the cemetery were being maintained while others have been long neglected. Hopefully that will change soon and Mount Moriah Cemetery will get the help and care it deserves. Thanks for watching and your comment, Mary.

About 2 years ago, I started to see videos about that cemetery.
There is a site to help maintain the cleaning of it.
    friendsofmountmoriahcemetery.org
they make teams to clean ( highschools, universities, youth groups etc, etc)
Philadelphia people have proud of that cemetery now.keepthe good work!

That is good to know that the cemetery looks better than a few years ago. I only learned of Mount Moriah Cemetery that morning, then seeing it in person was an incredible experience.
Thank you so much for viewing and for your comment, I truly appreciate it! ✌

I never knew that private people owned cemetery's. I wonder how you make money owning a cemetery?

That's a good question, perhaps selling plots?
