Had a W202 C200 I imported to Nigeria from Germany. I never had any issues with it, it was my first car and I sold it to my trusted friend about 15 years ago, he still owns it and it still runs like a dream.
I still own an r350 cdi and its great. Almost 600k km and still going strong. No rust, very few problems for the amount of time it was used and generally a great luxurious car.
With 256,000 miles on my 1998 C230 Sport, non-Kompressor, my only regret is not getting the optional passenger power seat. I never thought I would own it for 23 years. Repairs, tires, belts, hoses, and maintenance cost around $600 a year, give or take. I got 13 years out of the original battery, and 10 years out of the second. It's a California car, still looks great, no rust, I treated the paint with a ceramic coating, and I perform all of the required maintenance on it. I'm told by my independent Mercedes mechanic that it's the last of the "forever" Mercedes, whatever that means.
I currently own two of the cars on you list. S500, and R500. I have had minimal issues over the years. The S500 did require suspension around 100K miles. No transmission problems, no rust and it is now 18 years old 190k miles. The R500 I replaced the air suspension around 70k miles. Other than the two batteries, no other problems. I live in Southern California, maybe that's why I dont deal with the rust.
I've got a 03 s500 it does need suspension work still smooth tho. It's got 170 on it. Has rust and needs a tie rod but I think it's pretty great so far
It all depends on the handling. Once you buy, always read the operator manuals and adhere to instructions to safeguard from small problems that become worse with time.
We have owned two Mercedes-Benz W163s. The first was a 1999 ML320. The second was a 2002 ML500. The 1999 model did have power lock issues and the heater didn't work on the passenger side. Otherwise, the vehicle was reliable, fuel efficient and comfortable. We drove the 2002 ML500 about 133,000 trouble-free miles. We owned a 2008 ML320CDI and drove it about 133,000 reliable and fuel efficient miles. If we hadn't suffered extensive hail damage, we would have continued to enjoy the vehicle. We still own and enjoy our 2008 GL320CDI. It has delivered 187,000 trouble-free and comfortable miles. It is comfortable for long drives and delivers excellent fuel economy.
I still own a 2003 W163 ML500. Owned it since 2008. 232k miles and counting. It does have rust. The car radio and a few oil cooler line leaks but, never anything major. I’ll never sell it. Use it to pull my boat. Easy to work on yourself easy to find parts and inexpensive to repair....Love the ML500!
W202 C-Class are actually epic in reliability and durability. My 1999 C230K is fast, rust-free and going strong with over 253,000 miles on the original drivetrain. Sure, little things have been problematic, but after 10 years of ownership, I would not hesitate to drive cross-country tomorrow.
My 1997 C230 has only 130k miles and is a gem. It looks exactly like the C280 in the video. When I hit the gas pedal the car takes off really fast. In fact it seems to have more power than my 2007 ML350. Other than the headliner and A/C blower motor which has to be to replaced, it has only required regular maintenance stuff like replace tires, battery, and tune-ups. I often get offers to sell my C230 because the interior and exterior is so clean.
Yea I bet you did, as in you leased them, had them for three years, and now are surprised why they didn't fall apart in front of you in the few years you had them
I’ve had my R350 for 3 years and only had one problem with the air suspension. I love it. It’s unique and I don’t really mind having a car that doesn’t look like everything else on the road.
I driven a R 500 the ride was unforgettable. Unfortunately it had too many miles, I still think about buying one. All Mercedes that have the Airmatic ride will fail at some point. So that's a common problem
I've had a 2007 X164 GL450 for 13 years. Purchased Certified Preowned (CPO). It now has 240,000 miles on it. I've dealt with many of the issues you've discussed, but even when I add up all of the repair costs, it's been a cheap vehicle to keep over the long haul. I still use it to haul 2 boats that weigh over 5000 pounds. My wife and I use if for very long haul trips. It's never left me stuck on the side of the road. If you stay on top of them, they last forever.
For a reason, MB is taxi's almost all over the world. I own my MB nr:5 ( G-wagon, C-class, E-class, E-class, CLA), and today I have the CLA. Just follow the service-program, and take care of your car whatever brand it is. Best cars I ever have owned, with ZERO issues.
I agree with you . I owned many Mercedes and now own three SL Mercedes. Two R129s (95-96) and an R107(82) . I haven't had any real issues with any of them . I like this class and have stayed with it . I also like the E class . The Mercedes was really engineered for the cold climates in Germany.
I have W204, pre-restyling, diesel engine, 5 speed automatic transmission and it is reliable car. It is best C-class ever in my opinion. Had it for two years with no single issue.
Mine keeps on running, has surprising performance for a straight 4, and I've had no complaints with 255,000 miles. Sure, I've spent money on maintenance, but nothing serious, or out of the ordinary.
I had a 2001 S430 that I bought off lease, so it was three years old. It had every problem you mentioned and a lot more. I traded it in for a Toyota Camry! I have a W204 and a W205 now and they’re much better cars. The W204 is of much better quality than the W205 though.
wowwwww .... Ours is E 300 but suspension is not good very low ground clearance ....... not to mention poor interiors especially dash board panel 🙄 ... and rust is coming 7 years down ⬇️
Reliability has nothing to do with how long a cars survives. If you're spending enough money on repairs you can make a unreliable car last until you get tired of it or go broke.
Nope. The list is very correct, it's just missing W210 E-class that would deserve its shameful position on this list. 20 years ago it was abad mistake for an owner of still fresh W124 to trade such magnificent car to crap like W210. None of these are worth the star.
I got a 2011 E class wagon, and literally drove it through an 8 hour snow storm from Chicago to Michigan. On the other hand, had to fully replace the air intake manifold, but at 120,000 miles something is bound to need replacing. Plus I could do it myself, these cars arent hard to work on(im not a mechanic).
Still have the 2002 ML320 we purchased with 20k miles on it and it's my son's daily driver. It now has 140k miles and starts/runs/drives every time you turn the key. No leaks, transmission rock solid. The secret? DO THE MAINTENANCE! There are fiddly bits here and there, but if you address them you can keep these cars for years.
@@ramonbs6075 Oil changes to include engine oil, front/rear diff oil, transfer case oil, transmission fluid every 30-40k, belts and hoses, at 100k I replace the radiator/water pump because here in the desert that's about the life of them. Lube the door hinges/latches, replace anything that stops working like struts on the hood and rear cargo door.
I am sure my old R350 was a mistake, but when I sold it at 10 years old there was not a speck of rust on it.. apart from normal wear and tear, I only had to change the water pump. I miss that car often. It felt like a nice heavy car....or spaceship as my kids used to call it...somehow I feel the interior felt more luxurious than my current GLS450 does. The R class had a bad reputation, but I loved mine!!
I got my 2008 Merc Benz at 33km had an amazing run. Only thing on mine the tail light circuit boards burnt out on both sides. I just spent $1000 on brakes after 3 years. Just normal basic things like brakes and tires. Amazing vechicle cheap to run.
I still have a 2006 ML 350. (140,000 K miles) Not many problems as you described here. No rust on mine. I keep it in the garage, it looks new.. Yours looks trashed here. Sad. I have owned 4 Mercedes and they have saved my wife's life twice. Very safe cars. Best of luck to you tho. Lots of negatives here. I know no car is perfect but Mercedes have been good to us.
I'm a 20 year Master Mechanic with Mercedes Benz. The new ones have all of the problems these old one had plus more problems. literally a problem with every part of the car.
@@HectorHernandez-wm4ey yes it has its problems. Lots of issues with the radio and entertainment system, Android auto and Apple car play issues. Windows that don't work correctly and squeak when going up and down, the seats will stop working, check engine lights, sunroof issues... I can keep going.
I was literally on the way to take my 2008 GL450 to the Mercedes-Benz shop for the third time this month as I was watching your video and you are absolutely correct if it's not one thing it's another
@tyree Ingram I feel your frustration... but hope your third visit breaks that trend and you get to enjoy the Big-G for an uninterrupted 12 month period at least :-)
I still own a c230k. apart from wear and tear my cars been reliable. I've had it 16 years. But I've had 2 air mass meters.its done 300000 miles now. So not too bad.. All cars break..but they fix
Mercedes benz have not learnt the art of a good air suspension system, love the look, owned four but back full time to Toyota. Too many things to go wrong with the Mercedes.
I have that ML320 4MATIC V6 and my friend as at the time bought a BMW X5 V8, whenever we are traveling his car always had an issue with too many problems, he had since sold that X5 as wayback at 2010, mine is still there rocky, look, No car is as durable, rugged and classic as Mercedes Benz in any brand, I guess you're sponsor to do this damage to Mercedes Benz but for us that use Mercedes Benz, is the best in the world
I like how you show a current gen C class that most people drive, but the video is about 20 year old Benzes that nobody drives anymore. Of course their going to have problems their all 5-6 owner 100k+ miles.
I had a w202 and it was okay, had issues with the MAF and throttle body as well as the depicted rusting issues but it was an alright car nonetheless! Always got me home! Now I have a w211 E350 and it’s treating me quite well
Interesting video - But note that none of these 5 cars reviewed are even remotely near the current range. I own a 2017 (current shape) AMG E43 which is simply sensational. The build quality, ride, torque, power, tech and comfort levels are beyond the BMW's, Land Rover and Jaguar I have owned in the last 20 years. Mercedes is clearly back and a very strong luxury competitor again.
takata affected almost every brand thats on takata not Mercedes , Mercedes was even replacing airbags before takata took responsibility and action unlike many other brands that waited for takata to admit fault and start paying for the work ect
Yes... I appreciate that those lethal Takata bags weren’t installed on my E350. She has ten air bags so swapping them all out would mean lots of disruption and more potential errors perhaps...
@@ECPP Hello, sir. I have a 2013 E350 Cabriolet. It's based on the old CLK platform. I have 83k miles on it and only drive her about 5k miles a year. It's been solid, but do you think it will continue to be so, at its age and mileage? Thanks!
The cars I want in the near future (in no particular order): 1. Mercedes-Benz E-Class wagon 2. Acura TLX Type S 3. Volkswagen Golf GTI 4. Peugeot 508 GT (when Peugeot returns to USA, of course) 5. Tesla Model S Other cars I like include the Tesla Model 3, Acura NSX, Porsche 911, Dodge Charger, and Ford Mustang.
*Hopefully your bank account looks like the guy who has been in charge of engineering at Tesla; ummm..this dude also has a rocket and various outlets claim he is on his way to be the first trillionaire …as long as your bank account looks kinda similar, you can own ALL THESE from just your “pocket change,” not a problem!*
My old man had one of those ML models and literally didn't have a single one of those issues - but it was the most numb and miserable car to drive. He got an X5 and it felt like a Lamborghini in comparison
Never have seen a W220 in Germany with so much rust. All ML exported to Europe were comletely new build in Bremen, because of the unexecptable qualtiy. In Germany the w202 is known as one of the best build cars from Mercedes
Had a C220 about twenty years ago and pretty much had all the problems you mentioned but I also had AC problems and the headliner falling and the leather seat stitching breaking. This car was cancer!
Thank you for your video. As a Mercedes owner of C Class vehicles for over thirty years I personally believe the biggest problems occur because people do not have their cars serviced on a regular basis. I owned two C Class cars for a total of nineteen years. Now, the service cost at the Mercedes dealer made me cry at times but I never had a problem with my cars driving 12,000 a year.
Have a 2004 c320 wagon since new . Only had to do General maintenance. No problems whatsoever. I travel state to state. Trust my old mercedes for long distance travel more then my BMW . Great solid car . Smooth and powerful. Only a 5 inch spot of rust . On entire car . Love it . With eBay amazon it's extremely cheap to maintain . Go get one !!
I have a 2001 Ml320 and have had it since 04 and it has been the best vehicle that I have owned, very few issues at all and it has 173.000 miles on it. The only thing is now that it's older it needs valve cover gaskets every couple of years but otherwise nothing major.
@@ECPP it is, I drive this vehicle everyday and have pretty much since I purchased it. The worst thing that has happened to it was my transmission mount broke,my friends tell me that you can afford to buy a newer one but why should I when this baby is still running like it was when I purchased it. I do also have a 96 S420 as well but I rarely drive it and keep it in storage.
I've had 2 w203 c classes one was a wagon and one a sedan that I still have, both way past 200k miles the one I still have runs absolutely perfect just a couple interior pieces that broke, and of course the head lights are slightly foggy
My W202 remains solid after 23 years. I couldn't ask for a stronger or cheaper car to drive. Last week I used it like a truck to haul 800 kilos of sod, tools, and construction materials. This week it's cleaned up, shinny, and will be ready to haul people around. I still get complements on it, but I've kept up the maintenance.
Love my ML500.... It's a little beast and it's also a little beast at the gas pump too..... Only problem I've had with it thus far is power steering she's a 2005 I bought her with a hundred six thousand miles she now has a hundred and twelve....knew the power steering unit was bad when I bought it..... Cross my fingers I hope that's the only problem I have........ If gas prices don't start going down she is going to have to go bye bye....😐
We have a Gl 450 2011 and it has been ok but the airbag suspension sucks. Ride isn't that good and they fail. Right now its sidelined due to failure of the suspension. I'm never getting anything but strut suspension from now on.
All these models were released during the disastrous Daimler-Chrysler period, quality was compromised over profits. So anything from 1995 - 2007 is rubbish. Benz have gone back to their engineering roots starting with the w204 c class onwards
I own a 2002 SLK 320 with 141K on the odometer. Normal routine maintenance including; tires , brakes, serpentine belt and oil changes. The only major item that I replaced was the water pump. No rust because it lives in Southern California.
I’ve had my 2011 R350 for 4 years and not had any of the problems mentioned. Really lovely family vehicle - excellent for highway travel. I don’t find it ugly at all. I’ll admit it is definitely unique, and a headscratcher in terms of what category it fits in, but I wouldn’t say ugly. Especially the facelifted versions.
I sill own my ML w163 since 2004 and is the best car ever I had and I will never sell it. Maybe I will now consider the GLE or GLS, but I am still reluctant to change it. Never got issues you mentioned. I leave in mountain with lot of snow and the performance is unbeatable comparing to most other similar car I had or I have tried.
I have a 350 GL and my only problem is the rear tailgate, some times it works and sometimes it wont lock-in and goes back up. Please help me as I like the car, what is the solution to this problem, hope you can help. I live in the Czech Republic. Cheers Tom
For the MLs 1999-2005 These cars are very tough SUVs If you get a used one, you have to check if the owner maintained it well Other than that they are nice cheap luxury cars to have Never left me stranded Have one that is about 159000 miles in CA
I have an ml430 sport model. It has been a dream. CA and high desert drivers. The plastics are brittle in places but if you can handle that, they are great for a 19 year old SUV. V8 - 268hp, just lovely. I threw in a new head unit and now I have a lot of modern tech at my fingertips to boot.
Still driving my 2003 E320 sedan sport. 150,000 miles. Very reliable car and best car I bought. Only had to replace a passenger window & my side mirror is funky. The faux wood grain cracked a couple years ago in one cold spell we had. A/C needs to be tuned. That's about it. Bose radio is awesome. Nice, tight, smooth handling. Car starts every winter. It was the best investment. Still has a modern look as it was the sport.
Thanks for mention specifically the generation of the models too rather than broadly categorize the entire series. For example, the W163 series ML is much different than the 2015 ML version of Mercedes Benz, which looks almost identical to the 2016 GLE. The W222 S class definitely made more improvement than the W220 S class.
I guess you bought the pre owned mbz and like most people, don't park in their garage where cars are meant to be parked. I had the ML500 and didn't have any issues, my husband had the S class(2ice) and no problems, all our cars were parked in the garage. If you can help it, stay away from used cars, most people don't take good care of their cars.
I've owned 12 and my best MBs were 2003 E55 AMG and 2008 E320 Bluetec, the 1998 SL500 is good too, the worst are 380 series, none-AMG C-class, GLA250, and older 6.3.
I've been hearing that the ML onto the GLE had been pretty solid... Though that bit about the same generation S Class means that some early 2000s QC issues hit Benz, too... along with a bunch of other auto makers. Still like the GLE, though... have it on a particular wishlist.
I have owned about 22 Mercedes over the last 22 years, W124, W202, W220, W221, R107, R129, R230, W163, X164, X166, R170... probably more that I can't recall. All have been stellar in quality, build and function. In fact, ridiculously fantastic cars. The only one that had real problems that kept costing money was the 2002 W220 S500, that car had a front end parts issue and I think it wasn't repaired properly. After several tries I gave up and traded it in for a W221 S550 and WOW what a car, blisteringly fast for a sedan. I owned 1980 SLC450, 1986 300E, 1989 300E, 1989 190E 2.6, 2002 S550, 1993 300SE, 2008 S550, 2004 SL600, 2007 SL550, 2001 ML320, 2008 GL450, 2013 GL450, 1998 SLK230, 1990 300CE, just the most wonderful and well made cars. My 2013 GL450 twin turbo V8 SUV has 192K miles and runs like new, problems? None. My 2008 S-Class S550 is just incredible. My 2004 SL600 V12 Twin Turbo has RennTech ECU giving it upgrade from 505HP to over 750 Horses and there is Nothing Like It. It's so fast it's unsafe to give the keys.... to Anyone!!!!! Ever!!!!! I also have a Maserati that's a 2004 4200 Coupe hand built at the Ferrari factory with the same 4.2 32-valve V8 as a F430, Ferrari California and F458 Speciale, that car has 67K miles and also never a single problem with it!!!!
Funny thing is, I still do see quite a lot of first gen ML's out on the road. Not sure if that's because their reliability is just hit or miss, or MB just happened to make a shit ton of them lol
There are a lot left likely because there were a lot manufactured and a lot of the repairs were fairly standard to perform and let’s also remember that this era was largely naturally aspirated. Regardless I know that many drive around rusted out and some electrics or plastic parts in non serviceable condition. We drove ours with. Sunroof failed because it was a bit older by the time it failed and I ended up just scanning together cup holders amongst “settling”. BTW, other than the water pump, crank sensor and coils, the V8 engine was solid.
@@ECPP I’m looking at a 2012 ML 350 at a used car lot (2 owners) I’ve been researching for days and can’t get a clear answer if this is a good buy. Btw it’s an Arizona car, no rust but maybe Dry 😩
@@danadmb41 I say go ahead and buy it because you'll probably at least make your money back if it doesn't pan out and if it does you'll get an amazing car
I have a Mercedes GLK350 , 2015. The red paint clear coat is peeling away all over the place. The manufacturer acknowledges the problem with the paint job. But the dealership refuses to take are of the problem . Looks like Mercedes has too many lemons. My advise is DONT BUY A MERCEDS , old or new.
Had a GLK 220d, diesel 170hp 4matic. Paint was excellent and zero problems in 9 years, just maintenance and consumables. Not even a bulb. He'll, the battery was still the original one 2 months ago when I sold it and got a new GLC 220d. I miss the GLK, very well built, extremely underrated and very capable. You probably got a lemon. GLK is still in the top of ADAC reliability for used cars regardless of age
I have 3 older benzes. A 2005 c230 kompressor with 166k miles on it. A 2008 ML320 CDI with 196k miles and a 2008 GL320 CDI with 217k miles. Other than the air suspension replacement on the GL I have never had any issues with them.
@@gabegarcia7779 engine is running good on mine. I think its a great deal. Make sure the supercharger is running good though. Have it scanned with a Mercedes Star diagnostics. Im in the quad cities if youre around here i can scan it for you
Hello. I recently bought a 2013 SL550 Roadster. It only had 17k miles, and I paid for a pre-purchase inspection from the dealer. Aside from a strange and occasional roaring sound from the rear end, which the MB dealer couldn't explain, it checked out very nicely. And was well maintained even though it was rarely driven in 9 years. Should I be worried about this model?
The best way to take care of your SL is to make sure you use it on a regular basis - these cars need to get out of the garage and on the road - and do the routine maintenance. Enjoy
He isnt lying about the w251 rclass. Ive owned 2 my 1st one was great. The one I have now is currently getting the transmission repaired at 136000 miles. Transmission is known to go bad on Rclass. Replaced MAF, replaced intake manifold, replaced fuel pump and still check engine light code P085. Best benz ive owned was the w219 cls550.
First Gen 63 liter engine 1998-2010, had faulty head bolts that would corrode to the point of failure which could result in complete engine failure. It also had hard lifters that would cause premature cam wear.
Yeah, I've owned an X164 (GL450) and a W251 (R350 BlueTEC) out of warranty. There were some expensive repairs, and I ended up getting rid of the latter because of numerous issues. However, I think that they were great cars and would have both of them again. I think they were more worthwhile than my Porsche Cayenne S, to be honest. My mom's W211 (E500W4) is the best Mercedes that I've had. Absolutely no major problems. I spend probably about $200-300/year on maintenance and repairs. I've also really enjoyed my X166 (GL63 AMG). However, it's only 5 years old now and at 42k miles. It did have a major repair recently, but I am still under warranty.
@@ECPP I have a 2019 Audi Q8 and even though I have only had it since May 2019, I have been very pleased at how incredibly reliable it has been. For a debut model, there have only been two dealership visits aside from 10k maintenance. A b-pillar rattle and a software update to address the throttle lag that customers (including me) were complaining about. I don't think I've ever been more pleased with a car than I have been my Q8.
@I CU I had to replace the suspension at 78k miles ($5k at Indie). Power steering leak, just topped off annually no problem. CD player stopped working, no one could fix it recommended replacing entire COMAND system-way too expensive. Otherwise, not too many issues. The car is now with my aunt who I sold it to at 105k miles. She is enjoying it. It's a 2010 GL450.
WHILE SEARCHING FOR RECALLS AND CRAPPY BENZ’ the gl was on the lists. Do some research before warranty ends and trade!!! Bmw with 400 series with b58 motors are super reliable. Have Toyota Supra motors in them!
As a Benz technician, I couldn't agree more. while we do see some of these models come in the shop kept in great shape. Some of them that were driven on a daily basis barely held up.
What are the biggest issues you see with ML430s? I have a 2001, and it's needed lots of stuff - especially back in the day though most was under warranty or extended warranty. Now, though, I've had things like traction control suddenly braking the car, and the SRS light stuck on (supposedly the module is no longer available). I had to get 3rd party springs since they are no longer sold. Seems like parts are getting hard to find in some cases. Otherwise, the car is still running and is a beast in the snow.
@@georgeklimes7604 from what I’ve heard from my shop foreman. Being that I don’t work on this particular model often. Is that the older ML’s may have trunk/hatch issues. And the rubber seal for the fuel door may fail and allow water entry in the rear right i believe. And from what I remember it may actually affect your “rear SAM”. Or another important control unit. I could be wrong tho
@@georgeklimes7604 oh and one more thing. When it comes to SRS and ABS lights on Benz vehicles. Especially the (CLA, GLA, 221 S-Class, and the 211 E-Class) they’re known to get these faults. 2 things always make sure you got a decent running battery in a Benz, it goes a long way. And those lights can also be caused by faulty wheel speed sensors. That’s actually most common. But make sure you have good voltage at all times. Don’t sit in the car with the radio on and the engine off. Please
@@FZERO20 Thanks. I actually just got a problem with a wheel sensor. The car's traction control kicked on and applied the brakes while I was driving at 65 miles per hour when I hit a bump in the road! That was frightening. As for the SRS light, the tech said he cannot see the module. It won't respond. So it needs to be replaced, but Mercedes no longer has them. So I may or may not have working air bags. Now I am trying to locate a module in a junk yard.
You think nothing should ever go wrong on any Mercedes? Sure! Just like good ol' American cars - there are good ones and bad ones! I've relied largely on older (10-20y/o) MBs to get my family around for the last ten years - only had to put one on a truck so far - and that one was 27 years old and at 315000km at the time!
W202.... got my C36 AMG....no rust at all on mine....140k on the clock... pulls like a train . No issues besides the crappy bio wiring which I replaced. Awesome vids
I had an ML500 AMG. It didn't...feel...like a Mercedes. Fit and finish was subpar, imo, for a Mercedes. Yes, it was built in Alabama. Yes, I quickly traded it in for a new S500 and couldn't have been happier.
@@ECPP Yes. I forgot to mention...the S500 was a W220. That's No. 2 on your list. Fortunately, at the time unfortunately, I only had that car for a few years before losing it to flash flood damage. Up to that point, though, it was a great and reliable car. It was always garaged, well maintained, properly serviced, and had very low mileage...around 20k over 4 years. Insurance paid out full retail value on the car which I later used to get a W221. The mechanic at the shop that the W220 was taken to ended up buying it from the insurance company. He knew exactly what was wrong (which boards were water damaged) and was able to replace those and make a tidy profit flipping the car. I guess whoever got the car afterwards was likely stuck with the potential reliability issues you mention. What felt like an unfortunate Mercedes experience to me might have actually been a good thing and saved me a lot of trouble and expense. Hmm...God works in mysterious ways.
My mother owned a 1997 w202 (C230 non-kompressor) with the updated inline 4 for that year, replacing the C220. She purchased the car as a Star Mark certified pre-owned vehicle from the dealer in 2001, and kept it throughout my teenage years into my early 20s. None of the issues you mentioned occurred, except transmission failure, and oil/fuel leaks. Each issue occurred after the car reached 12 years of age. For most of the time she had it, it was very reliable. Acceleration was very sluggish despite the added torque for '97, particularly from a standstill, however passing power on the highway was adequate.
Got a friend who works at the Alabama MB plant. He does engineering testing. From the start he said don't buy an M class. My car is a W204 C300, 2010 model. No major problems at all after 133k miles.
Thank you Marcel. I owned one and can totally agree. nice when new but nothing lasted and even a person who can wrench eventually gave up because it rusted away.
On a related note, my dad's wife, the woman he cheated on my mom with, broke up their marriage due to my dad being a doctor and she wanted to use him as a vehicle to "leave the trailer park for the gated community." To get to the point, my dads wife wanted a Mercedes-Benz and even had an ML-class model. After seeing that the ML was not a very good vehicle, my response was PAYBACK.

Finally someone positive on (S500)..they buy cheap abused cars and come here to rant..take care of your car..and you will be happy..
I love my w220 500 and I dont have no rust
My words exactly.
Oh I own a 1993 C180 automatic and the car is really great! It's fast, reliable, easy to drive - great car! These cars shouldn't be in this list.
Thank you. I love my 99 kompressor

It’s my baby. Same year. Mine is still running strong.

Aside from the R-class, these cars are old AF! If they can survive this long, then I say it's reliable.
Agree most of these cars are VERY old anyway.I would not buy a car older than say 10 years even on a “bargain”.
Reliability has nothing to do with how long a cars survives. If you're spending enough money on repairs you can make a unreliable car last until you get tired of it or go broke.
Toyota/Lexus outlast your life. LOL
Getting 2007 ml350
So, adding oil changes, which are the other type of maintenance you suggest to these vehicles?
@@ramonbs6075 Oil changes to include engine oil, front/rear diff oil, transfer case oil, transmission fluid every 30-40k, belts and hoses, at 100k I replace the radiator/water pump because here in the desert that's about the life of them. Very nice
That first Mercedes was scrap iron... I don't know why, but Mercedes cars always felt DIY-Unfriendly to me...
@@tati-anaroseee4316 thanks, i did that about an hour after posting my comment. $50 at Office Depot
I’m thinking of buying a 2005 c230 kompressor with 175k miles for $2900 is that good price ? What should I look out for ? It will be my first Mercedes

Enjoy
@@Scoharr Hello. Thanks for your reply. Btw, the roaring noice was a bad wheel bearing. Thank God, I purchased an extended warranty.
Dude
Why you got so harsh
On the c class
93~2000
That was the best of all the c clsses
That Mercedes ever made😶😶😶
All C class cars are great value but that one is one of the more problematic, based onstats
ExoticCar PlayPlace
Thank you 😊
These cars arent as problematic as claimed by some motor journalists
A family friend has the c180 model. He beats the heck out of it and has around 250k miles on it but it runs fine with minimum maintenance too.
You're totally wrong about his.. it was the one that came after that was problematic.. the w203 00-06 that one was bad. Not the w202
It certainly can vary but the higher up the food chain chances are the pricier the repairs, potentially.
I'm envious! My W202 is nice, but it's not what you would call breath taking nice.
@@nomebear got a C43 W202.... now that car needs work 😂
Yes , BMW is a nightmare of all the European car .
I had an ML500 AMG. It didn't...feel...like a Mercedes. Fit and finish was subpar, imo, for a Mercedes. Yes, it was built in Alabama. Yes, I quickly traded it in for a new S500 and couldn't have been happier.
True, it felt like a domestic product. Not well built
As a W140 owner I am glad you did not mentioned that one haha
The w212 is still my favorite Mercedes 4 door 2nd the W221 3rd Cls 2006-11.
Thanks
Got a friend who works at the Alabama MB plant. He does engineering testing. From the start he said don't buy an M class.
My car is a W204 C300, 2010 model. No major problems at all after 133k miles.

The ML is a nightmare among Mercedes people, to this day many are ashamed of this smear stain. Greetings from Germany
Thank you Marcel. I owned one and can totally agree. nice when new but nothing lasted and even a person who can wrench eventually gave up because it rusted away.
I own a S500 and it’s still smooth. Replaced the air ride but other than that can’t beat the S500.

TMI...this is not the forum for that...go see a counselor.
