  • Sometimes I don't have the time to ride all day, so it is awesome to be able to hop on a couple of trails / green lanes on route to a cafe for lunch before heading home. The Aprilia Tuareg 660 is such a great bike for dual sport riding.

    Ahh great to see you out on the toe-rag again Pete!
    I'm totally for the idea of standing on the pegs to handle any challenging terrain - and I don't mean straight legs, straight arms (like the BMW Latte-seekers riding through town) - that's asking for a crash and injuries - gotta be bent knees and elbows and the "attack" stance. Because of this, for about 4 years now I've done daily exercises to strengthen my knees and hips, sometimes needing to stay in this position for long stretches of road, I just wasn't fit enough originally.
    I get the same "walking" effect from my Shinkos at about 50K/hr, once they've got even the slightest bit squared off by too much long, straight riding. So I kinda think it is the tyres, but definitely you're spot on to check the bearings etc.
    Yes... heat and rain makes the weeds, and lawn, grow faster - ask me how I know 🤣

    • @HippoDrones
      @HippoDrones  2 місяці тому +1

      @@CaptainCrankyMotovlogger standing does take a bit of getting used to, especially to get into the "attack" position...bum out and elbows up. My current weakness is my back, too much time at a desk has made it lose muscle mass, I need to get away from my desk at work more. But standing is less tiring for me than sitting when in the slime.
      The walking feeling from the front I can deal with if the trail ability is worth that loss of roadholding, but the noise is really quite terrible. If the gearing were on the way out, I'd imagine I'd get an abs fault pretty quickly to warn me before total collapse... but I'd rather not need to find out, so I will def be getting the shop to check them out if I am unable prior to the next service.

    Nice little string of lanes Pete, I especially like the one through the wood, peace, away from madness of the roads! Tyres are a minefield, not every tyre behaves well on every bike, it's a matter of eventually finding one that works for you on your bike. I use Pirelli MT43 Trials, I find them a good all round compromise for the sort of riding that I do but by the same token other folk will say they're cr*p! Each to their own.... 👍
