      No worries, I changed my 1250GS (100 000km in total on GSes) for Tuareg and although I had doubts about long trips, I am more than happy now. I made 6000km trip to Sicily and except wind buffeting on highway, it is fantastic bike !

      @@MrGichinfunakoshi I clocked 4 tkm last Werkel in the Tuareg. Great bike though not been off-road really yet. Flawless from a technical pov. No issues at all.
      Two downsides I noted: legs are getting toasted, especially in hot conditions >25°C. High-beam-switch is located where I often accidents turn it on when using the cruise control or manoeuvring the bike.

    I like them both but they're very different bikes... Tuareg is one of the best ADV options for someone who can only own one bike and wants to ride both onroad and off (and moderately challenging offroad... not just dirt roads). The GS is a good choice for someone who can only own one bike and wants to ride on tarmac, dirt roads... and maybe the very occasional foray off groomed surfaces (VERY occasional) or who owns multiple bikes but wants a big comfortable and well mannered ADV bike for primarily tarmac use.
    Both are bikes that you give up some things to get other things... but both are quite good at what they're good at.
    Having said that... the IMU is more than an on paper difference... I don't buy bikes without IMU's anymore if they're more than pure offroad or very limited use. Even my lightweight (Offroad biased) ADV bike (Husqvarna 701 Enduro modified for ADV use) has an IMU. I've been saved mid-corner by IMU/Cornering ABS numerous times over the years (on my Multistrada and on the 701).
    If someone tells you "I can do better" than modern ABS/TC... that's 100% verification they don't know what they're talking about. Even on the track I'd wager than 95+% of riders will be faster/safer with ABS/TC enabled (and properly configured) on modern bikes... and in the uncontrolled touring environment on the road NOBODY will be consistently better.

      I agree with you but being a Tuareg owner I can tell you the it can indeed go off road and I mean nasty stuff not just moderately as you said but of course one needs to change tires

    • @btgmoto
      @btgmoto  11 місяців тому

      The whole point of ABS is that it's always awake and working 100%. It's possible to outbrake the simple models in a very, very special circumstance. For example, on track, with a fast bike (and no IMU). Sometimes there are mechanical reasons to remove it (too much fluid, long pipes, heat soak, bad feel on the limit).
      Anyway, I digress. The Tuareg is not 'dumb' ABS or TCS, now I have a few more miles on it, I trust it a lot more. It's kinda funny that even the little 390/401 KTM/Husqs have an IMU while a lot of bigger bikes don't.

    After waiting for the new Honda Transalp last year and being told it wasn’t coming to the US, I went looking on UA-cam for something else… and the Tuareg showed up. After looking at all the specs and realizing that the aprilia was 15 miles away, I was a no brainer. KTM dealer never call me back on their new models but again, after looking at the Tuareg… tubeless tires, 4 engine modes, cruise control, and more. I’ve an older Tiger 800 which I love but he aprilia really checks all the boxes. Nice video!

    The Tuareg's a great bike and it's very clear from your autobahn run that Aprilia has done its high speed homework especially with that screen design. However, unless you're absolutely 100% committed to huge amounts of extremely sketchy single track (in the right hands and with the right rubber, the Tuareg's been shown to be perfectly capable of doing that) and as long as you're happy to accept the inevitably higher running costs of the big GS, it would be hard to give up the sheer versatility of the GS in terms of its supremely luxurious fully loaded mile munching capacity.

      @geekstar2937 2 роки тому +3

      On highway the GS has clear edge over the Tuareg, but everywhere else the Tuareg is much better. For me, anyway. GS is WAY too heavy offroad (not only for sketchy single track, pretty much any offroad thats not just a dusty country road).

      Yep, you can easily change to first while moving, that's not a problem on motorcycles at all. Just be aware that the combination of engine braking and gear reduction means you're likely to lock the rear wheel in loose ground. On this bike the quick-shifter was matching the revs for me, and also this bike has a slipper clutch. Other bikes without these systems will be more difficult for sure!

The bigger bikes are going to cope better with long distances especially autobahn kilometers. They can also better handle the weight you add from luggage and tools. It is always a trade off, you have a more nimble bike in the off-road and still plenty capable onroad.

    There was a time years ago were I traded my 2014 bmw r1200gs for a brand new bmw 850 gsa, and even when the 850 was super nice on the highway, just moving it on the garage was dramatic compared to the gs, since all the way was located up! And that 850 weights about the same as the gs! Regardless, I regretted it,and also have a instance were I have to brake hard on the 850 and that thing was all over the place!
