      While much of my musical tastes go toward new wave and punk, I absolutely love this song and have since the first of the 50 or so times I have watched Fame. Thank you, Irene, for putting so much emotion and heart into this song. It's simply beautiful.

    Irene Cara is a National Treasure. I don't think people today realize the depth of talent she possessed. Or how important she was to American pop culture. There is absolutely no mistaking that voice or its ability to move a listener.

    This is heartbreaking. She was one of my faves growing up. I don't know how many times I sang along to, "Out Here On My Own" on my 45. That song was on repeat as a kid. I loved Fame, first the movie, then the TV series. If you haven't seen the movie DC Cab, you should look it up. It was hilarious. A lot of great actors was in it including Ms. Irene Cara. She was a very gifted and talented woman and was wrongfully taken advantage of in the industry. Rest in Peace Ms. Cara! Your work will forever live on. 🙏🥺❤️

      Same with me. I grew up listening to this. We sang selections from FAME when I was in the 4th grade in the early 80's. I learned how to play fame because of my Music teacher in grade school Mr Kephler.
      RIP to Irine Cara. Your Voice will always be a part of my music history. Such soul , such passion, .
      This song brings me to tears no matter what.
      So much passion is lost today(exceptions true) but some just shine so brightly like Irine.
      I love you dearly. God Bless you Irine and all involved with the production of FAME.
      I almost went to the NY school of the arts (They closed the school before I was able to apply but Years later I graduated from Manhattan School of Music)

    Irene’s death hit me harder than I thought it would. Hearing this song, which I’ve loved since I was a kid, reminds me of what’s missing in todays music & that’s real raw talent. People who can really sing without gimmicks and tools. This is easily one of the most beautiful songs I’ve ever heard and as sad as i am that Irene has passed, I’m glad that work like this will last for generations to come.
    Rest In Heavenly Peace & thank you for the work that you’ve done Irene. 🙏🏽❤️

    • @bernadetteelizabeth5394
      @bernadetteelizabeth5394 2 роки тому +12

      Agreed. Raw talent has been replaced by branding, image, & overproduction. Conformity is celebrated & promoted, with rare exceptions (Billie Eilish, Jack White, & Lizzo, for example). The industry became more powerful than the artistry somewhere along the line. Musicians and singers aren't required to know their instruments or trust their voices. The control room is now the "corrections room" to create the most profitable sound. Profit comes easier by investing in the formulaic manipulation of a willing stooge than it does by investing in an artist with raw talent, inexhaustible work ethic, and commitment to the creative process.

    Haven't heard this song in years. Bring tears to eyes just listening to this beautiful song sung by a pure talented singer Irene Cara.. Sung from the heart and soul.--Updated 11/26/2022 RIP. RIH. Irene Cara. The movies that you ⭐ in "Sparkle ' and "Fame' will always remained my all time favorites. My condolences to your family and friends.
    Sometimes I wonder where I've been,
    Who I am,
    Do I fit in.
    Make believein' is hard alone,
    Out here on my own.
    We're always provin' who we are,
    Always reachin'
    For that risin' star
    To guide me far
    And shine me home,
    Out here on my own.
    When I'm down and feelin' blue,
    I close my eyes so I can be with you.
    Oh, baby be strong for me;
    Baby belong to me.
    Help me through.
    Help me need you.
    Until the morning sun appears
    Making light
    Of all my fears,
    I dry the tears
    I've never shown,
    Out here on my own.
    But when I'm down and feelin' blue,
    I close my eyes so I can be with you.
    Oh, baby be strong for me;
    Baby, belong to me.
    Help me through.
    Help me need you.
    Sometimes I wonder where I've been,
    Who I am,
    Do I fit in.
    I may not win,
    But I can't be thrown,
    Out here on my own,
    Out here on my own.

    "Out Here Own My Own..." has been my favourite & go to song since it was first released. I was a 10 year old boy who had just started training to be a classical ballet dancer. It is & will always be the song I turn to. It has & will always be there to get me out of any bad place, however rough times may get so the biggest, most sincere gratitude to you. God bless you forever, Eden xXx

    How many from this iconic film - including its director, three of Ms. Cara's co-stars, and the composer of this song, Lesley Gore - are no longer with us. But they left us this film, this music, and this song. Everyone feeling lost will find comfort in it and it will inspire everyone who wanted success in entertainment and was willing to work for it.

    Fond memories of this song….. We lost Leslie Gore today who had a string of hits in the mid 60's but penned this beautiful song with her brother…In 1979 I was sitting in the auditorium of the old Haren High School on 10th Ave in NYC where we filmed part of FAME…Lunch time so I stopped to eat my lunch in this beautiful Beaux Arts Auditorium that was built in the early 1900's..75 years later, this beautiful building had been abandoned for new digs and became available for filming purposes & became the much of the school, standing in for the School of Performing Arts & sciences. The auditorium was pretty exquisite with skylights that let in natural light but during WW2 had been painted over in preparation for a possible homeland attack and now 35 years later in 1979, the paint was falling away and letting streams of light in…As I sat there alone in the auditorium that had a piano on stage for the film who walks in to rehearse ON HER OWN? Irene Cara.. So I got a little performance…not bad for a 24 year old guy , working as a set dresser having his boxed lunch having a half hour to kill…. As the light streamed in and Irene played on the piano and sang..I just sat and listened to what eventually became part of that famous soundtrack released the next year for FAME….RIP Leslie Gore..This was your party. Thanks for some great music..It WILL live forever….

    This is one of those songs that no matter how old, no matter how many times you have heard it, no matter where you are. It just makes you feel something wonderful & some what emotional because it has that magic that a beautiful song is suppose to do and make you feel. It puts you through so many feelings just enjoy the time and take it all in because it's only going to last maybe 3 minutes but it is a wonderful 3 minutes experience that only a great classic song can make you feel.

    • @JayJayinNYC
      @JayJayinNYC 6 років тому +15

      She didn't have a much bigger career because she didn't sell her soul. She was too smart and knew she was being cheated by the record company hence the lawsuit. Of course the drugs didn't help but they all did drugs. Unfortunately the industry is full of those like that creep in the film who told Coco to undress herself and stick her thumb in her mouth. She ended up being blacklisted. While she did have 3 top then hits, her albums didn't sell very well which didn't help matters either. It's a damn shame because of her talent. She could have been huge

Maybe there are better singers in a technical sense, but to me no one comes even close to her vocal clarity and the raw emotion she puts into a song.
