This is heartbreaking. She was one of my faves growing up. I don't know how many times I sang along to, "Out Here On My Own" on my 45. That song was on repeat as a kid. The same for me! At the age of 12 I quit ballet and wanted to start dancing like Fame...but I didn't know then how it was called... accidentally I went to a dance school and they said I could join 'jazz' class...that was it!! I am Greek and there were no black people in Greece at the time, but our teacher was an American black man , who was my best dance teacher ever! It was like I was living inside Fame♥️!

Recently, I had actually been listening to this song while preparing for 10k races this week. The upbeat tempo and Irene's vocal talent make the song great for workouts. The energy in the song was awesome. RIP - Cara's vocal talent lives forever on UA-cam.

My eyes and head was filled with the romance of it all and I too, was made for "greatness!" Well, not so much... :-) but I'd love to see the movie again as if I recall correctly all parts were beautifully performed and the issues def still relevant. Very sad abt Irene Cara.
I have loved the music on the Fame soundtrack & I used to dream of being a choreographer, ever since I was in my high school dance team. I loved watching Debbie work, and she was a huge reason for the success of the movie, along with the fantastic songs. My name really IS Debbie Allen & I'm always happy when someone knows who Debbie Allen, the choreographer is bc I feel connected to her by the love of dance. I injured my lower back at 15 years old and it has grown to a point where I can't even work anymore. I'm turning 65 soon & I still adore Irene's voice & the movie. I bought the movie & soundtrack. I was so sad to see her go but she's still with us within her songs.

This show was so ahead of its time. It started so many trends and copycats. Kudos to Debbie Allen for creating a wave that others rode for generations.
Sad to see her pass away and thought she would live to be 100 years or more; she made it to heaven too soon. This generation was just below mine; I was born in 1957 and this inspired me to stay in shape for a long time. I like to see what everyone of these young people dancing in this video look like today in 2023.

Rest in peace, Irene Cara. ❤🙏 I will never forget this song and of course, "What a feeling" (Flashdance) - they were my favourites. You and your talent will be missed.
Irene Cara was such a talented, and versatile performer. From her acting: Fame, Sparkle, Aaron Loves Angela, Certain Fury, Roots: The Next Generations, to her electrifying performances of the singles Fame, Flashdance - What a Feeling, to the heartfelt, On My Own, she gave us iconic moments! Being an 80's kid she was my crush, and provided so many wonderful memories in my childhood. I was truly shocked, and saddened to hear of her passing today. My condolences to her family, friend, and fellow fans. Thank you Irene for sharing your gift with the world and being an inspiration to so many. Your name, and artistry will be remembered forever!! R.I.P. Irene🙏🙏🙏
Growing up in the 80's was the best time. It defines who you were. The generation after that doesn't know anything about how we had it good back then. Loved the show and the music.
I'd gladly go back to the 80's at the drop of a hat. So carefree, and so much fun. Music, TV, Films, Videogames and Technology were just really starting to achieve the beginning of their potential. What a time to be alive. It makes me cry!
This song fills my soul and spirit!!! I was a young girl and I dreamt and dreamt of being a good artist, that´s true!!! I danced ballet for two years and flamenco for three whole courses at my primary school. This sound track gives me strenght.

It's too bad so many people will miss out on this song. I highly recommend watching the original FAME movie beginning to end.
I can definitely hear the comparison
NYC is as much of a character in this movie as all of the other actors! and yes, props to Irene.
I blast this song in my car. I can’t get enough of it. And wow, Irene Cara’s voice…the best

I love this line from actress Debbie Allen❤
Had to come here as soon I heard. Tears in my eyes as I listen. We love you, Irene, and will miss you. We definitely will remember your name.
I remember hearing Irene Cara when I was younger but not that much.
I later did the musical Fame! and it was when I decided to pick up dance again.
I heard the song in Trolls Band Together which made me happy to hear.
Rest in Peace Irene Cara, thank you for motivating me in my performing arts, you're songs always give me the energy.
I'm gonna live forever
I'm gonna learn how to fly
(High)
I feel it coming together
People will see me and cry
I'm gonna make it to heaven
Light up the sky like a flame
(Fame)
I'm gonna live forever
Baby, remember my name
We will Never Forget you RIP and Light up the sky in Heaven Irene Cara
This show was so ahead of its time. It started so many trends and copycats. Kudos to Debbie Allen for creating a wave that others rode for generations.
At the same time her sis was the most famous TV Mom and one of the tops all time now. 👏🏽👍🏽👏🏽!
Sad to see her pass away and thought she would live to be 100 years or more; she made it to heaven too soon. This generation was just below mine; I was born in 1957 and this inspired me to stay in shape for a long time. I like to see what everyone of these young people dancing in this video look like today in 2023.
Brought tears to me eyes. Amazing tribute to an incredible tv series
thank you Irene, for not only showing how to have courage when no one would teach me.. but to look deep within and realize I had it all along. We will continue to light up the sky together. Rest in Power Irene, we will remember your name
Sleep in absolute peace, beautiful Irene Cara. Thanks for so many beautifully musical memories.
Rest in peace Irene. Thank you for this great song💖
R.I.P. Irene🙏🙏🙏
Well said 👏. And good knowledge of her movie. Thanks for the memories of her other good roles in her movies. 👏
Loved this song and loved the TV series. Never missed it.
Irene Cara and Lee Curreri are both Facebook friends of mine & it makes my day whenever i get a like/love from them. I will die a fan of both.
I had Lee Curreri on mine for years, has he gone off the radar?
What the industry did to Irene Cara wasn't right...I don't blame her for being resentful
@@majorpremise what makes you think she is?
We will remember her name Irene Cara, forever! She was a talent and soars with the stars now!
Forgive me for going all Toecutter here, but
Remember her when you look at the night sky.
Exactement un talent À L'état brut une vraie Légende vivantes 🙏🙏 qui rejoint le Royaume des cieux Amen 🙏🙏🇨🇵🇨🇵🇨🇵🇨🇵
It makes me cry!
that’s what people said about the 50’s….and 60’s….and 90’s…
This song fills my soul and spirit!!! I was a young girl and I dreamt and dreamt of being a good artist, that´s true!!! I danced ballet for two years and flamenco for three whole courses at my primary school. This sound track gives me strenght.
That song did what it said in the title. Glorious. That guitar 🎸 piece at the end , legendary. Rip 🙏🏽 to the beautiful Irene Cara. Amazing voice. This song and movie changed the world. 😊
Just saw this yet again. Two days ago. Just as good as when I saw it in the 80’s!
😀
I Love the way this song makes me feel !!!!! I graduated in 1988. Love the 80s and 90s.
I do... I´m remembering you and your work in this film, Irene. Requiescant in pace.
I was in the US for the second time when this song came out. Gonna remember those days forever... Greetings from Teresina, Piauí, Brazil.
RIP Irene Cara ❤️🙏🏾 this song and show are such major parts of my 80s memories. Fell in love with her Coco character... this is genuinely a sad day to hear this news 😔
Love this. From a time when movies were worth a damn.
And Irene Cara was the bomb, with sprinkles on top.
No cursing, no twerking, just vibes 👏🏿 Rest in Love Irene Cara

RIP Irene! We will miss you so much, you were such a big part of the Gen X teen years. I remember you from our neighborhood in the Bronx and was always proud of what you accomplished.
elle date mais oh combien excellente vidéo de cette époque ou la jeunesse pouvait s’exprimée sans tabou !

I’m more into rock music but this song was hard to ignore..
So Inspiring
Rest in Peace Irene Cara such a huge part of my childhood 😢
This glorious and sensational piece not only changed music it changed the world to an extent that could not have predicted or been prepared for. .... Remember the past and the future.
I can't recall other tv series like this!!!
I never lost an episode and I was running from school not miss it!!!
...And at Saturday nights in the clubs, trying to copy those moves!!!
F*CK... that amazing decade, our youth!!!
Love the song
Rest in peace Irene. I still remember, at 17, his powerful voice singing FAME which became a hit for the young of my generation.
Irene Cara, grandísima cantante, que marco toda una generación y época; ella sigue con nosotros a través de su bella música, Irene Cara siempre eterna, fuerza desde México.
Another artist who's song influenced my early years. Everyone watched FAME when I was a kid, more the telly show than the actual movie but the theme song always stays with you. Corker of a track when it came out.
She inspired so many people, now famous and others now gone. RIP
Rest in peace, Irene Cara, you were the voice of a generation. This and What a Feeling are two of the great songs of the early 1980s, and they're still great to listen to 40 years later.
I had this album when I was kid. I love Debbie Allen. Remember watching this when I was growing up .
And now she's going to live forever. RIP Irene Cara.
So sad to hear of her passing she was to young to die. Such a great singer too. Fly high with the angels Irene!
I love this song I was 17 and a senior in high school I remember it well thank you Irene cara!!
Omg...Irene, you inspired me more than you could ever know. You created pure energy that will never cease. You defined an era that is so close to what i am RIP😢
Irene's hit song Fame was her testimony of talent.the lyrics spoke to a 80s generation included myself included I remember first watching this movie in 1982 & I own the DVD & I wanted to badly to become a dancer but it didn't happen but that doesn't mean that ppl shouldn't pursue their dreams Irene 's music will always live on .flashdance what a feeling also was one of my favorite movie songs!r.i.p.Irene & thank you for just giving ppl inspiration thru music!🙏🙌
The dancing in the street made me cry as a little girl. Happy tears
My favorite movie of all time. I still get chills when I hear this song. Rest in Peace, Irene. Your name will live on forever.
RIP Irene Cara 🙏💙🙏 The kids dancing and bringing the streets and the hussle and bussle of the "business" and "order" of the streets to a standstill? It was everything then. It remains everything now!
Epic song! One of my favourite ever!
RIP Irene Cara and Gene Anthony Ray, i love you both, you live for ever! ❤
