Rest in peace to Irene Cara, this song is so inspiring and really always gives me hope and encouragement. Her talent will be missed RIP❤
I haven't seen this in years. They all look so YOUNG!
I ran out to get leg warmers. Sound of my youth growing up in Ireland. 🇮🇪

@@JK-qr9rt Ahhh, we have a moron.
Amen 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Raise your hand if you grew up with listening to this song in the 80’s 🙌
I was 8 years old back then, 🎉🎉🎉🎉
I was in 1980 a visitor in Atlanta GA, Riverwood High School, and it really was haype: the music, dance, clothing, spirit of a group,...
“I’m gonna live forever” - in our minds you will…
“Baby remember my name” - definitely…
RIP Irene
That made me cry. It´s so touchy and true.
We will, we definitely will
Shame. Such a beautiful woman! She will definitely live on forever through her music. RIP Irene.
We do live forever, just not immortally. We move on ahead into eternity after we die rather than get erased.
and she DID make it to Heaven !
We were so spoiled in the 80's with so much greatness that great songs like this were not fully appreciated. Only after we experienced the proceeding decades do we now know what we had.
I wasn't old enough to understand the 80s and place it in the proper comtext within the streams of time. At least I was there and was able to experience it even if I couldn't explain it.
this was always my favourite song
STILL ONE OF THE BEST MUSICAL FILMS EVER! 💔❤️🔥 Irene Cara & Gene Anthony Ray - RIP.
This is heartbreaking. She was one of my faves growing up. I don't know how many times I sang along to, "Out Here On My Own" on my 45. That song was on repeat as a kid. I loved Fame, first the movie, then the TV series. If you haven't seen the movie DC Cab, you should look it up. It was hilarious. A lot of great actors was in it including Ms. Irene Cara. She was a very gifted and talented woman and was wrongfully taken advantage of in the industry. Rest in Peace Ms. Cara! Your work will forever live on. 🙏🥺❤️
DC Cab is a cult classic.
@@Bronco_Billy_Jack_Hills Dirty Dancing came out in 1987. Disco was long gone
Agreed.
Equally heartbroken here, this was my childhood
Rest in peace Irene Cara, gone too soon
"Out Here on My Own" helped me through many difficult times in the 80's.
80s soundtracks are untouchable. Totally epic!!!
Like Cheers.

Ain’t gone lie: This song still gives me goosebumps when i listen to it. As a kid, i didn’t appreciate it at the time. But in my adult years, after battling chronic depression, for the 1st time i my life, I really want to live forever. RIP Irene Cara. 🌹🕊️

From another depression survivor... you are so correct... this song gives me goosebumps (at 51) just like it did when I was 9...
Well Said
RIP Irene Cara. "Fame" was quite ahead of its time and still relevant to this day!
I was an 80s teen and this song is one of the classics. This song came out when I was in 6th grade. I had always enjoyed the song since my youth. Recently, I had actually been listening to this song while preparing for 10k races this week. The upbeat tempo and Irene's vocal talent make the song great for workouts. The energy in the song was awesome. RIP - Cara's vocal talent lives forever on UA-cam.
As was I, and the movie resonated with me too. I was a bit young to grasp nuance but I did understand the obvious themes despite not yet having lived (most of ) them personally (yet). My eyes and head was filled with the romance of it all and I too, was made for "greatness!" Well, not so much... :-) but I'd love to see the movie again as if I recall correctly all parts were beautifully performed and the issues def still relevant. Very sad abt Irene Cara.
Fines de los 70' s principio de los 80' s
And the bass!!!!!
This song is probably in my top favorite 20 songs of all time!
Rip irene cara 🙏
She’s gonna live forever in our hearts ❤️❤️ Rest in peace Irene Cara, you’ve made it to heaven

This song and the TV series meant the world to me when i was a kid. So many fond memories. RIP Irene.

Difficult to watch this without shedding some tears and getting serious chills. RIP Irene Cara.
Absolutely!
That's the truth.
Masterpiece.
Asi es, que recuerdos... Irene nunca te olvidaremos...

RIP Irene Cara. As a dancer, your music was my childhood. FAME and Flashdance always brings me back to what I loved so much, the art of dance.
The same for me! At the age of 12 I quit ballet and wanted to start dancing like Fame...but I didn't know then how it was called... accidentally I went to a dance school and they said I could join 'jazz' class...that was it!!
I am Greek and there were no black people in Greece at the time, but our teacher was an American black man , who was my best dance teacher ever! It was like I was living inside Fame♥️!
@@evaalive978 just the fact you were inspired to create art out of movement is something special. I hope kids today will put away their screens and just move, jump, tap, strut, hop, anything to connect with the energy within.

God bless Alan Parker. He produced, cast and directed two of the greatest musical films about young people, ever. "Fame" and the "The Commitments". RIP. Mr. Parker. Thank you for energising and inspiring the days of my youth.
I remember seeing her in person many years ago at the nightclub the limelight in NYC ! she was wearing a yellow dress, and was very beautiful!! This song was Irene’s debut single and it won the academy award for best original song in 1980! and two of her background singers here were Luther Vandross and Vicki Sue Robinson,

The dancing in the street made me cry as a little girl. Happy tears
Baby, look at me
And tell me what do you see?
You ain't seen the best of me yet
Give me time, I'll make you forget
The rest
I've got more in me,
And you can set it free
I can catch the moon in my hand
Don't you know who I am?
Remember my name
Fame
I'm gonna live forever
I'm gonna learn how to fly high
I feel it coming together
People will see me and cry
Fame
I'm gonna make it to heaven
Light up the sky like a flame
Fame
I'm gonna live forever
Baby, remember my name
Remember, remember, remember, remember, remember, remember, remember, remember
Baby, hold me tight,
'Cause you can make it right
You can shoot me straight to the top
Give me love and take all I got
To give
Baby, I'll be tough,
Too much is not enough,
No
I can ride your heart 'til it breaks
Ooh, I got what it takes
Fame
I'm gonna live forever
I'm gonna learn how to fly high
I feel it coming together
People will see me and cry
Fame
I'm gonna make it to heaven
Light up the sky like a flame
Fame
I'm gonna live forever
Baby, remember my...
Remember, remember, remember, remember, remember, remember, remember, remember
Fame
I'm gonna live forever
I'm gonna learn how to fly high

Irene Cara was such a talented, and versatile performer. From her acting: Fame, Sparkle, Aaron Loves Angela, Certain Fury, Roots: The Next Generations, to her electrifying performances of the singles Fame, Flashdance - What a Feeling, to the heartfelt, On My Own, she gave us iconic moments! Growing up in the 80's was the best time. It defines who you were. The generation after that doesn't know anything about how we had it good back then. Loved the show and the music.
I'd gladly go back to the 80's at the drop of a hat. So carefree, and so much fun. Music, TV, Films, Videogames and Technology were just really starting to achieve the beginning of their potential. What a time to be alive. It makes me cry!
