In recognition of the 70th anniversary of the death of Dinu Lipatti, a collection of recordings of the legendary pianist arranged as a recital.
This anthology presents recordings in a similar order and groupings to those of the pianist's recitals throughout the 1940s, including the sequence and pairings of the Bach, Scarlatti, and Liszt works included here.
This collection features recordings from his studio discography as well as unofficial test discs and broadcast recordings of works not part of the pianist's official output. The primary commercial sources for these transfers are the ones listed here - please support the labels by purchasing your own copies:

The unmatched poet of the keyboard. To quote the 23rd Psalm, "he restoreth my soul."
If I start playing Lipatti at bedtime it’s a sleepless night for me. I had a dream that Lipatti played the Waldstein for Beethoven who promptly got his hearing back. If indeed there is a Lipatti Waldstein out there, OMG I can’t wait!
One of the true poets of the Piano.
Lipatti’s Bach is the last page of the last chapter of the universe.
Yes, indeed..
Fslubin. YES!!!
Dinu Lipatti wahr ein Genius
It's always a hopeless struggle to describe in words an impression of something as ephemeral as a great artist's sound, but words are all we have. Lipatti has entranced me from the first moment I heard the Besancon lp eons ago. It bypasses your brain and goes directly to the heart.
Difficult to find the right words to describe this experience 👌
Excellent. Today I discovered, thanks to my older brother, that Lipatti was one of my mother's favorite pianists.
Magical, when i listen to Lipatii it's always a blessing for my soul
A real genius!!!
His interpretativo is out of this World. He is divine
@@elsasanders2175 YES!!!
Some of todays young pretenders should listen to this. Here is pianism and musicianship raised to a divine level.
Delight, admiration, astonishment and great emotion. And a 'breakneck' repertoire... Just Dinu
❤
And it has to be said, no one, but no one can, or ever will, match his Alborada!
couldn't agree more
How about his cuachoocoso?
There are truly great pianists, Rachmaninoff, Horowitz, Gould, Cortot, Rubenstein and many others but only in Lipatti does one encounter the quality of divinity.
Please don't forget the contemporary pianists like Alexander MALOFEEV, a real maestro...(19 years only),
you will see his name often in the future...for sure!
fr dave in baltimore mozela9@comcast.net this the recital to die for- as a pianist- i want to study Scarlatti more- have been to Ivvanovka, Nohant and Ravel's house- is there a Scarlatti museum? a Lupatti museum? Let me know.
Agree totally. I told my little brother ( who plays for the Houston Ballet, and competed in the Gina Bachauer and the Naumberg international competitions) that I want him to play the Bach Hess Jesu Joy of Man’s Desiring like Lipatti. His response was” Then you can’t die until you’re 100, so maybe I can play like Lipatti
i und sind jetzt
I prefer and like these beautiful colorful piano sound players more=Wilhelm Kempff Emil Gilels Radu Lupu Vladimir Ashkenazy! Most genius like=Sviatoslav Richter Solomon Cutner Grigory Sokolov!!
Such a beautiful tribute to the finest, the most noble, the Prince of Pianists. He truly touches one's soul; and when he plays Bach, I find my tears flowing uncontrollably. There is very little on record that comes anywhere near to a spiritual experience than the playing of Lipatti. Thank you so much.
Nessuno come questo regalo del cielo. Nel passato, nel presente, nel futuro.
Merci infiniment pour ce beau "récital". Lipatti restera au-dessus de tout.
Having got a few off Dinu Lippati's Reissued Records on EMI Columbia 33C and 33CX from 1955 I can still feel his Presence in My Lounge and I think the Chopin Walzes LP is My favourite and who ever did the transfers in the 1950's from the Columbia 78rpm Records had dun a Marvelous job and the LP was transferred to the HMV Treasurey HLM Series, and I think that I've got a copy of this LP Record that has been transferred to U-Tube,and it was such a tragedy to die at that age 33 and thank God that great Gains have been Made in the fight against Cancer as the Poor Man must have been in terrible pain on his last Recital in September 1950 and Cancer is one thing that I wouldn't wish on My own worst enemy and all but the Recital two Record set are on the Blue and Gold labels and I've Managed to get a Blue and Gold Columbia 33CX-1499 and 33CX-1500 on the Blue and Gold of his last Resital in a Excellent Outersleeve and this Peace of Music by Ravel was Reissued on a Columbia LP Record 33CX-1386 witch I've got a copy of in my own Record-Collection again on the famous Blue and Gold label
❤
His playing was truly amazing. In a +2,000 LP and CD collection, Lipatti and Horowitz are the 2 i most turn to. And that’s saying something as my other favorites are Gilels, Richter, Zimerman, Pollini and last but not least, AB Michelangeli.
Thank you for uploading this and sharing it with us devotees and newcomers.
Thanks so very much for this homage to a sublime artist.
So elegant and discreet. His meridional soul burst out in Scarlatti ‘ s sonatas and in Ravel’s splendours Alborada del Gracioso. I’ m so happy to listen to it. Thanks for uploading this magnificent recital.
Thank U very very much 4 all those wonderful jewels & treasures. 🤗❤🙏
This would be the best recital ever to attend :)
Bravissimo 10000000 mal
One of my absolutely favorite pianists! Thank you for posting.
Minunat! Așa în geniu! Prea devreme plecat!
Thanks you so much for these. He truly was one of the greats. Bitterly sad he went so soon.
Thank you for this, Mark, it is a great joy and pleasure to listen Dinu's almost unreal, fantastic interpretation, and to have it here for free❤ Every time I'm listening to him it amazes me, God bless his soul!🙏
❤
4:08 Quelle émotion extraordinaire !
Bravissimo
Not an actual recital but an arrangement of recordings to be like a recital... I WISH we had a full recital other than his final one! The ones he played before he was sick had interesting repertoire combinations.
Thank you so much for posting these recordings they are extremely beautiful, especially the Chopin Sonata it’s gorgeous Lipatti’s playing it’s out of this world a gift from God. Thank you again 🙏🏻🙏🏻

Stunning beauty. Thank you.
@28:20 This performance of the Largo movement is amazing.
It TRULY is... and this transfer on APR reveals its depth and majesty better than any other I've heard. In preparing this video I listened to it over and over, and I just couldn't get enough of it!
@@ThePianoFiles I can see why. Thank you for posting this wonderful series of recordings.
@@jeffsmith1284 So glad you enjoyed it. Even if you have his recordings already, the APR set is a must have for the quality of the transfers and also the first ever CD release of his test recordings with Janigro (including some Beethoven). Link in the blurb below the video.
Merci ! C’est divin …….. une telle transparence ……

Grandissimo pianista
1:08:03 - 1:08:35 The transition of the D major chord at the end of Brahms Capriccio to the opening D in Ravel's Alborada del Gracioso is so interesting to the ears.

Thank you, Mark!
Thank you for sharing!
Wonderful! Couldn't have compiled it better myself, except adding the timing like M.L.Pianist did below.

Vibrato, auf dem Klavier. Aha. Warum nicht gleich auch Portamento?!
Så obeskrivligt bra spelat, så trösterikt!
der fabelhaft
Thank you for remembering and for the effort of putting all these together! It was a beautiful gesture. In RO they may be too busy with the virus ... . :-(
Fortunately in Romania the IRC has published a wonderful photo book of Lipatti, to which I contributed one of the four chapters. It's a marvellous production, which will hopefully be available overseas soon. My colleagues at the Radio Romania have also been paying tribute to him, so he's not quite forgotten! I was due to have been there in person for the book launch but unfortunately it was put off due to the virus... hopefully another event can take place soon!
@@ThePianoFiles Thank you, Mark. I am glad that something was done in my country, as well. In my opinion, as a profane listener, Lipatti was if not the greatest, at least one of the very few great pianists of the XXth century, although people could argue that the scarcity of his recorded repertoire may not justify such a categorical assessment. Or, to put it less categorically, I would say that I haven't heard a better rendition by any other performer, of any of the pieces that he recorded. Among the pianists I hear on UA-cam, only Zimerman seems to me that he may be in the same class. Since a photo album was mentioned, you posted a very beautiful photo during the first movement of the Chopin sonata. Probably, he was very, very young in that picture, I guess.
yesssssss
"Oisive jeunesse
A tout asservie
Par délicatesse
J'ai perdu ma vie"
When I heard Lipatti's repeated note technique, I said to myself, "Forget Argerich."
Why don't they do Lipatti Competition?! Like Rubinstein Competition? He deserves an unlimited appreciation.
KaisarAnvar. L'ipatti competition? Is ridiculous
