He had arrived that morning. The recording, or rather the broadcast, was being done live; and a half-hour before the audience arrived at the Salle du Parlement, we learnt that Lipatti was at his hotel, felled by an attack. Madeleine Dinu Lipatti was obviously at his side in a state you can imagine, and a miracle occurred: exactly five minutes before the announcement of the concert, we saw Dinu Lipatti arrive, supported by his admirable wife, and I say well supported because he could barely walk. A half-hour earlier, the doctors were still at his bedside, giving him shot after shot. It was lovely weather, very hot. An armchair had been prepared for us in the small room that served as our studio, as well as a rest studio for all the artists who gave recitals in the Salle du Parlement. An armchair had been set up, and in front of it, three electric heaters; a woollen blanket awaited Dinu Lipatti who, wan and shivering in a cold sweat, was sprawled in this armchair. When it came time to play, we were still hesitating over going on the air and making the announcement. But inexorably, the time had come. And that's when the miracle of music occurred: at that moment, throwing back the blanket, standing, pushing the electric heaters aside, Dinu Lipatti, with a firm, lively, assured step, walked to his piano. And it can truly be said that, at that moment, music was a veritable breath of life for Dinu Lipatti. Between each [group of] piece[s], he came and collapsed in this armchair. He was given a shot, he was given a cordial, and off he went again to play. Lipatti's last recital is a milestone of musical art. Revelation in any note. Simply a perfection. We are happy to listen to Dinu Lipatti's musical testament. He was a true genius.

This brought me to the brink of tears. The energy that goes through a true artist's soul when they're performing is out-worldly and divine. Art is the only thing that outshines death.
Geniul muzical interpretativ al lui Dinu Lipatti a depasit si va depasi mereu bariera timpului! Pianul sub degetele sale transmite o muzica celesta!

For me, and considering he was dying and indeed dead 3 months later, one of the truly very greatest performances/recordings ever, whether instrumental or voice! The passion, the emotion is palpable. So moving, so profound. As described on the original LP cover ''one of the great musical and human statements, a testimony to his [Lipatti's] transcendental powers, an almost frightening assertion of mind over matter''.
I Have got the two LP Columbia Blue and Gold 33CX-1499 and 33CX-1500 and I'm still so moved by the sheer beauty of his playing even though he died six years before I was Born
Thank you so much for the video. I so wish it included the final part, when he left the stage due to exhaustion and then returned and played the Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring. ❤🌹🌹🌹💐
In fact you can only listen to this concert with your hands folded. They are messages from another world delivered to us by a doomed man who makes this sacrifice with his last ounce of strength.
Merci beaucoup!!! I lost words!!! Simply amazing and masterful restoration (I am ordering INA CD while the current Opus Kura was a major disappointment; I knew the second best was his EMI early box)!!! I am so delighted with your remastering!!! Thank you, again!!! And, it's about time for INA and France to dis-cover the recording of the encore, Bach-Hess Cantata «Jesu, bleibet meine Freude» BWV 147. That should be your homework!!! ))

In the last 73 years, this must be the 372nd re-re-re-.....edition of this concert. It has always been available ever since it took place. What’s so new about it ? Please tell me. Thanks.
New media are enabling a new generation to discover this legendary performance. This is the first time you'll be able to hear every transitional arpeggio by Dinu Lipatti, as well as the announcer's presentation. The remastering has improved the sound quality compared with previous editions.
This first release of all the announcements and warmups (only those before the Bach and Mozart were previously released) came on a Solstice CD for which I wrote a 4000-word text, and this is the source from which this upload derives. There is also the false note in the Schubert G-Flat Impromptu that was edited out of the broadcast and all previous issues of this work, which is how it was actually played during the concert - this derives from source material from the widow's collection that I discovered in a private collection in 2015.
@@ThePianoFiles Thank you for this information and for contributing to this wonderful physical edition, which is without doubt the best yet (www.solstice-music.com/fr/album/lipatti-le-dernier-recital ). In this new digital edition, the sound quality is even slightly improved.
@@classicalmusicreferenceI don’t care a f***ing damn about transitional arpeggios and radio announcements. Want I care for is what Lipatti does of the works he plays. The rest is just bullshit for whoever likes bullshit more than music itself ! 😊👋
@@mm527 Indeed it was, so that is how the piano REALLY sounded. Most unfortunate. I have many recordings from that period where they used a better piano. They come across much better than this in both mono and early stereo.

This brought me to the brink of tears. The energy that goes through a true artist's soul when they're performing is out-worldly and divine. Art is the only thing that outshines death.
Vraiment MAGNIFIQUE !
Geniul muzical interpretativ al lui Dinu Lipatti a depasit si va depasi mereu bariera timpului!
Pianul sub degetele sale transmite o muzica celesta!
This has never sounded better - and it is good to have the whole thing.
So Schoen und Elegant gespielt, legendaris Pianist 🌸
great remastering! thank you so much...and what a concert. God Bless Him...
AMEN
Quel pianiste! Quel toucher incomparable!
I was introduced to Dinu Lipatti's recordings by my parents in the 1960s, and am deeply grateful for them. Exquisite and courageous.

Wow, what a sound! TY
I Have got the two LP Columbia Blue and Gold 33CX-1499 and 33CX-1500 and I'm still so moved by the sheer beauty of his playing even though he died six years before I was Born
Thanks to the discovery of Prednisone! Which gave this wonderful artist a lease in his life to be able to bring to us this historic recording!
Thank you so much for the video. I so wish it included the final part, when he left the stage due to exhaustion and then returned and played the Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring. ❤🌹🌹🌹💐
Brave what a heroic performance brilliante

Il Paradiso sulla terra ❤
In fact you can only listen to this concert with your hands folded. They are messages from another world delivered to us by a doomed man who makes this sacrifice with his last ounce of strength.
RIP Maestro
RIP Maestro.🙏🙏
fabelhaft
Wow, the story of this recording is amazing. And what incredible performances. Lipatti is worthy of his stellar reputation.
Waouh! Thank you! 🌹
great!
Unglaublich Gut Bravissimo
Merci beaucoup!!! I lost words!!! Simply amazing and masterful restoration (I am ordering INA CD while the current Opus Kura was a major disappointment; I knew the second best was his EMI early box)!!! I am so delighted with your remastering!!! Thank you, again!!! And, it's about time for INA and France to dis-cover the recording of the encore, Bach-Hess Cantata «Jesu, bleibet meine Freude» BWV 147. That should be your homework!!! ))
Me gusta mucho!
Astounding!
Great pianist.
GRAZIE❤❤❤❤❤😮😮
sehr gutes spiel Bravissimo
SUBLIME
❤❤👍👍

The timestamp for Schubert's Impromptu D 899 #2 should be @41:46, not 31:46.

Lipatti, a bit hard and frozen sound.

.................
@@a.f.4248 I totally agree! 👋👋👋
The performance is amazing, so it's a shame that the piano sounds so tubby
The recording was in 1950!!! Thank you for remastering! Excellent job!!!
@@mm527 Indeed it was, so that is how the piano REALLY sounded. Most unfortunate. I have many recordings from that period where they used a better piano. They come across much better than this in both mono and early stereo.
❤
