You liked it? I found the ending pretty sad! All those poor tourists! Different, I guess! It's such a great game though - incredibly playable and so much room for learning and improving skills! I've recently made a mod for lander than I've really enjoyed, but with there being no real 'hub' for a lander community, there's nowhere to really distribute it other than UA-cam videos! If you ever got back to lander though, check it out! (it's linked it my most recent lander video: ua-cam.com/video/zwUrULSn4aQ/v-deo.html)
I love this game, but whenever I mention it to anyone they've never heard of it. I guess I would never have known about it either if it wasn't for my mum just happening to bring it home one day when she found it at the market and thought I might like it. I wonder why it was so overlooked, it's a great game.
It's so easy to get lost on the level you mentioned! Regarding Lander itself, I recently made a mod for it that adds a difficulty selection (medium -> hard -> insane), and also rebalanced the ships and the weapons so that there's much more variety. If you ever decide to return to the game, give it a look: ua-cam.com/video/zwUrULSn4aQ/v-deo.html (And if you don't, sell your game disc to me! :P )
@@xxxxSylphxxxx Only just saw your reply to my comment now lol. I just revisited the game today. @@playstationsimracing1108 Thankyou! I prefer this video: ua-cam.com/video/zwUrULSn4aQ/v-deo.htmlsi=e1sA2o9IdrvWeCsA Because it demonstrates a more difficult 'lander', and the mod that makes it difficult!
Any tips on getting this game to run properly. I have the iso version. Sound is working and I can play first level, complete the mission after that it crashes when the game tries to get back to the title screen. I used to own this game many many moons ago and never did complete it.
That's odd..... Let's think... If the first mission works, but then the game crashes going back to the menu, that suggests to me that something is going wrong when it tries to write data.... Let's have a crack at getting it to work: 1. Make sure to use the lander.exe contained in the lndrd3dr directory. 2. Run the program as an administrator. (also run in compatibility mode) - (navigate to lndrd3dr directory, Right-click on lander.exe -> properties -> compatibility tab -> check the box for 'run this program in compatibility mode for windows 98/ME', and 'run this program as administrator' ) 3. Ensure the game's path isn't too long, and don't place it in a system-managed location like program files or my documents. I know this sounds weird, but there's a few reasons to believe that a short path might also help. Ideally, I'd unpack/install the game to: c:\lander ( or d:lander etc. Mine runs quite happily from D:\games\lander ) Let me know how you get on!
If the above doesn't work, maybe my operating system is making it work for me? I'm running Windows 10 pro 64 bit. Are you running a 64-bit windows 10? When you say 'the iso version', do you mean the version you can download from myabandonware .com? That's the version that I play it on nowadays. (Just in case more details would help, I just checked my settings, and I run it in Fullscreen, 32 bit colour depth, SOFTWARE for both positional and non-positional sound.) I was actually playing around with the game's code a little this year (I wrote and released a mod for it, to provide more variety in the ship/weapon selection choices, and more difficulty options + puzzle solving.), and all that I can think of other than being unable to write to hard drive (admin) is that it's incorrectly setting some of the mission variables - that screen can crash to desktop if the missions available are anything unusual, but the only reason I can think that it might be happening to you (provided the above fixes ie. run as admin, compatibility, short path, not in program files etc), is a 32 bit / 64 bit inconsistency somewhere.
@@xxxxSylphxxxx thank you for replying so quickly, I installed the game into the program files x86 folder. I will re install again to c:/Lander and see if that helps. I am on win 10 x64 pro. For me the glide version seems to work better after I installed glide wrapper. I ran both glide and the dx as admin with compat at win 98. I also think I might be about resolution so I will give that a go. I will take a look after work tomorrow and let you know how I get on. Thank you once a again for replying so quickly. I am looking forward to playing this game again.
@@hairyonions Wow, people still use glide?! I thought glide support was pretty much non-existant nowadays! Better rendering performance certainly isn't needed for this game with a modern PC (20 years old, and pretty slick programming for performance). Or are you telling me that you find glide more stable? I'd expect d3d to be much less error prone, but then I'm certainly no glide expert, especially not glide in 2022! ;) Hope you get it working anyway; it's such a lovely game! ('flying saucers' in the last mission, building (far) ahead, 50:29 Callisto.) - A couple of missions crash to desktop if you alt-tab during play, such as the 'destroy kill 10 probes' mission, or the bridge destruction mission.
