- Dragon Quest XI review and first thoughts on my early impressions of the game. Dragon Quest 11/Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age is the eleventh main series entry in the Dragon Quest video game series, developed and published by Square Enix. The Nintendo 3DS and PlayStation 4 versions of the game were released in Japan on July 29, 2017, with an Nintendo Switch port being released at a later date.An international release is also scheduled for release sometime in 2018.

I got sick of all the "professional journalist approach" using sophisticated terms that most of youtubers do nowadays trying to look like a high budget TV shows.
Japan when are you going to realize that we want more Dragon Quest games on main consoles. We get so many handheld versions but we want the main console versions and they will sell.

From the looks of Dragon Quest XI, it's most likely meant to be played on a main home console or PC.
+Drewsefer89 obviously in Japan it sells way better on Handhelds 3 to 2 copies, and that's DQ homeland. It sells the best on handhelds here in the States as well, and we will see the Switch and 3ds versions be the top selling skus as even mighty Persona 5 could only sell a little over 1 million units with a 60 million user install base. The fact is: that large install base is great for sports games, western rpgs, and shooters, but for everything else Switch will be their saving grace.
I have been avoiding everything about this game in terms of info, but gosh... after seeing your video, seeing the gameplay for the first time and your enthusiasm I just got blown away. All aboard the hype train!!! Thanks John! :)
Man I hope to God they bring the DQ 1 to 3 remakes on 3DS to North America. I'm playing through DQ 8 on the 3DS right now. Once I'm finished that I will own and have finished all the DQ games from 4 to 9 on the (3)DS. I really love the series and would love to own and play through the first 3 to complete it all!!
Johnny, I recommend google translate on your phone, it has a feature where it uses the video on your phone and translates the jpn text into English in real time very quickly on screen as you hover the lens over the jpn text ,
It's far from perfect of course, but could come in handy in some situations

HappyConsoleGamer the real time capture sucks. Just take a photo and have it scan.
Jai Baraoidan that's actually a good shout and better still yes, use the scan word feature instead, it's still quick to use but is much more accurate than the real time scan
I scanned some footage of your gameplay there and it said , "do not go into the cave as there is a strong monster there"

It's so colorful!!! I really can't wait for XI to come overseas. I remember playing VIII back in high school and it was an absolute masterpiece. I really hope DQXI can crack the states because it's such a excellent series that deserves so much more here. Thanks for the preview!

I am getting both the PS4 and the 3DS copy and I really hope they put Dragon Quest 1 2 & 3 on Virtual Console in the West
DQ1-3 have been out quite a while on iOS in the west. :-)
ladynikkie that would be cool having the first 3 on 3ds good idea, they seem to be holding back on what they can put on 3ds virtual console for some reason now that I think about it

Nice, DQ11 is my most anticipated game in a LONG time.
I cannot wait for this! Looks amazing and I hope Dragon Quest becomes more popular over here in the states so we can see more titles come over.
I'm 40 hours in with the 3ds version, and so far I'm really loving it! I'm self-studying Japanese for about a year and a half, and it's really rewarding that I can be able to read and understand what's going on with the story.
They didn't have enough time to add very minor details on the PS4 version though;
- You no longer bump your head when you use Zoom indoors. You just phase through the ceiling. But in the 3DS version, you do crash back down to the ground. Lol!
If you consider that, I do feel like they also meant to make it possible to run around as someone else in the PS4 version but they prioritized polishing the script and spent a good deal of time with it, which I'm really glad they did! :-)
Koichi Sugiyama is 86 years old. It's amazing he's even composing at that age. If they had used any other composer fans would have complained either way. You just can't win. So the games soundtrack might not be as memorable but it's not bad at all and has many good tracks from the classic Dragon Quests.
This is truly a Dragon Quest game for fans and newcomers. The fact that they built three different versions of the game is simply mindblowing.

Awesome video, I absolutely love Dragon Quest, I have collected 21 games from the series so far, and can't wait to get more. This video is actually the first I ever heard of Dragon Quest Builders 2 and I got super excited, I loved the first one. I can't wait til 2018, I really hope we get all of these games over here in the west, that would be magnificent! I also do think we will get the 3DS version of DQXI, since it's the same game in almost every respect outside of graphics, it shouldn't be difficult to localize both versions at once, also the 3DS/DS has the biggest install base for Dragon Quest games in the west right now with like 9 games available on the system so it'd be crazy to not release to that market.
Love the look of this game, seems they managed to retain the classic charming style yet its so detailed and modern at the same time. I dont think many other franchises could pull that off without making seem artificial.

Dragon Quest Heroes was my first DQ game. It was great with a very charming and humorous world and characters. I'm hyped to play this, a full-blown DQ RPG.
Do you think that Dragon Quest I, II and III could be reunited in a physical collection at least on 3DS?

Remember the first time we had transferable game saves was on the turbo/pc engine and or Duop. ANy games that had save also let you use a password, because they knew not everyone had a save addon thing. Like in Neutopia. U can type in password on your machine or on a friends machine. This now also works with Wonder Boy 3 the new remake, the OG master system passwords work on it back and forth! So you can continue your old master system version on the new switch or pc version and vice versa. Awesome. I wish more games allowed for a passowrd option for this veryu reason, even if it is huge, that is fine at least you are ABLE to transfer it around.
I love how Dragon Quest is still going strong with the turn-based system, Builders 2 looked awesome aswell! Underwater exploration and 4 player coop among other things are good improvements, and the first game was already quite good. Also might be a mega hit on Switch (in Japan we know for sure) A Great time to be a Dragon Quest Fan!!

I think the reason for the long wait is because they're probably adding voice acting, and an orchestrated soundtrack. Like what they did for the western release of Dragon Quest VIII.
I'm so pumped for this game, I might even take a few days off work to play it when it comes to NA.
I'd love for it to come on Switch, but i'd happily settle for a PS4 version.
I'm 8 hours into the 3ds version right now and it's fantastic.
I am 40hrs into the game and I am loving it so much. The characters, the storyline, the world.. all amazing! The graphics are phenomenal! They outdid themselves! Best graphics I have ever seen in any RPG, ever. I wished at first that it was fully cel shaded like VIII, but I got past that very quickly. The beautiful emotion of storyline is in full effect, too. The story arc I just finished in a seaside village... just beautiful. One strange thing is playing a DQ game and wishing it was a little bit HARDER. That is my only SLIGHT criticism, the game is quite easy.
Omg I am buying both. Probably have to wait a year, but it looks worth the wait!

I'm playing this on my Limited Edition DQXI PS4, it's amazing! Don't understand japanese but like you said, you play enough DQ you understand it a bit like the equips & menus and stuff. I've hit a brick wall a few times, but managed to get past it on my own with a little time.
is the game going back to the Loto story line? From the videos I have seen, the original opening theme is in and I seen a pic of the old Loto mark in it.

never played any dragon quest game, anytime i think of getting into them the sheer number of them is overwhelming. This looks so good though. if it comes out on the 3ds im picking it up!

Just saying for people who don’t know, in the options of the game you can change the cam settings so that the combat system is a lot more like dq 8 or 9 then the weird live action combat

No version is "confirmed" they have only said that the game is coming to the west in 2018. They have not confirmed any systems. But rest assured that they will release all of the versions. Not doing so would be very very stupid.

Man they were pushing that game hard in Japan. Lots of cross merchandising with convenience stores and stuff. In Akihabara there's a Lawson that makes Dragon Quest sounds when you walk it and when you're rung out at the register. It looks good.

Just bought a used ps4 today with Horizon Zero Dawn and Final Fantasy 15 - i got to chose a 10 euros discount on my total price today or 25 euros off a booked game in the future. The guy at the shop started mentioning a list of names but i'm not informed at all. Since i bought FF15 he mentioned Dragon Quest 11 and i said "OH YES I WANT THAT" ...so i booked it without knowing this game at all. But Dragon quest 7 & 8 are among my best videogame experiences. Also Dq 7 is the only RPG i played twice in my life...bc i played the whole game also on my Android tablet.
This and Ni No Kuni II, next year is going to be great for JRPGs. I hope the 3DS version, PS4 will be my main platform to play it on but playing chunks of it in the 2D style would be fun as well.

The Hero looks an awful lot like Corvus from DQ9 and the floating Yggdrasil's resemblance to the Observatory (from the same game) is uncanny. Any tie-ins to DQ9?

Used to think that dragon quest was boring because of the static battle system. They remade VII and VIII. Have both, and XI is coming to. Dragon quest IX was had very awesome sauce long and lengthy post game with the maps. beat IX first. My dad doesn't recognize that this series started with the original dragon warrior on the NES...

I think they will add english voices since the games done and they did do the same to dq8. Reason they didnt voice it in japanese is because it'd take them much longer to release the game, itd be hard for them to change the script, and its tradition for the dq games.

Wait, a password system to transfer the data between systems? How is that possible unless the password is thousands of characters long, or the game is extremely simple without much data needed to transfer over?

It's such a good game. I got the nn2dsll dq11 edition (the 2d thing is awesome) and the ps4 version which runs and is amazing on unreal engine 4 (switch has full support for unreal engine 4) and the passwords are a pain in the assss
Getting ps4 version. Hopefully dq 1-3 comes out in the states. Just finished my dq collection but don't have them. Dragon warrior was my first console rpg . I bought it because I was into AD&D back in the 80s and was the closet I could get to pc rpgs, at the time. I owned 1 - 4, but all were stolen from my apartment back on 1997. I had the maps and everything. Nes console and 60some games gone, some h addict broke in to pawn my shit. Still pissed off to this day. Would love to have 1 -3 on ps4 or 3ds. I don't own a switch and won't shell out $300+ for a handheld, as for me that's what I would use it for.
