    Took my CPO 2015 ultra low for same noise and transmission banging in each gear. The dealer said they did not know what a certified pre owned warranty was. This was a local dealer by my house and they didn't even care. I ended up calling dealer where I bought it from 3hrs away and they said they will take care of it. It amazing how different dealers are. Love the videos keep em coming.

      REALLY !!?!? The CPO program is a nation wide deal Harley implemented 🤦‍♂️ yes it is kinda wild how different each dealer is. At Speedway we really strive to make sure ALL our customers are treated like family. This is exactly why people use the term stealership and refuse to go back to another dealer. Thank you. I really try to make sure the everyday joe has SOLID info

    Im 65 and been on Harleys a long time. Hot rodded several of them and learned this: If you want a race bike ,save yourself a bunch of time, money and aggravation, go buy a race bike, Japan makes a shit load of them. If you keep your Harley stock and dont hang a bunch of high-priced junk on it, It will serve you for a Long time.

      It’s funny you say that, I had the pleasure of knowing this ole timer named David willet….David, had a 1987 tour glide names “old Charlie” he put 419,655mi on Harley caught wind of this and in 1999 have David a brand new ultra classic he then named this one “old Charlie II” he proceeded to put 296,855 on this bike. David was an awesome dude and would come to the dealership just to sit and talk with people. After working on his bike one day I said David….what’s the secret? He said I keep my bikes bone stock and don’t abuse them. I clean every aspect of my bike to make sure no dirt causes problems. He also had a 2005 Honda Bergman that had 105,000 ole David LOVED TO RIDE 🙌🤘

    Sean, thank you for doing this video. Answered my questions and also showed me some good tips. I had thought about ordering the Hayden Tensioner but decided that in the next couple of days, when I open the primary for inspection, if everything looks good will just stay with stock parts. correct me if im wrong the way understand it is the compensator design in the 07s and 08s where a carry over from the 06 and earler models and where only designed to handle the torque and horse power from the the 88.Im asking because in going to upgrade mine in my 07 electra glide ultra classic to a screaming eagle.

    • @VtwinRevolution
      @VtwinRevolution  2 місяці тому +1

      That’s correct, 06 dyna was the first to have the newer style because they were the first to get the 6spd 07 there was a design change in how the spring pack was mated to the rotor shell and that change stayed until 2011 when the SE style comp was introduced and there has been variations and changes made along the way to update certain parts of that style of comp.

    Ive always heard chatter taking off. Or a loud clunk changing gears. I noticed a weird vibration in gear. Coasting with clutch pulled in. So big i dont know if you would call it a vibration. More like a bounce. Rides fine any other time. Mine is 99-05 flh with 69k on it

    • @VtwinRevolution
      @VtwinRevolution  8 місяців тому

      I’ll start with the easy answer first 🤣 those 5spds were loud transmissions, they clunked at every gear change that’s normal.
      I’m not sure how recent this development is but you could have a loose comp, your flywheels could have shifted, loose primary chain. That’s a tough one without being able to ride it. Hell you could have a rock stuck between the swingarm and the trans case OR a battery bolt stuck between the primary and the frame at the passenger footboard location. Or it could be a bad front motor mount…..

      Thank you ! At 27k you probably don’t have much to worry about….but you will know when that spring pack and comp start to get worn….that unmistakeable shudder noise at idle or as you start to take off will slowly start to appear. At that point you could look into the dark horse comp or baker comp.

      Two reasons….first gettin that stuff off is a pain when I’m cleaning the drain plug on a service and the other reason is cause I ALWAYS forget which direction to put it on so that it doesn’t wad up at the bottom lol.
      Funny you ask that, me and another tech was literally talking about this today cause my dad called and asked the same question. Does the book tell you not to use sharp blows, yes. Have I EVER seen using an impact to remove the comp bolt, no. There isn’t a tech out there that doesn’t use a gun to remove that bolt. It’s torqued to 170ftlbs. That’s a decent amount to break loose.

    About the clutch basket and compensator , I asked the dealer if I should upgrade it. He said no, it's fine." Any thoughts?
    Currently have 1300+ miles on it and hear a cluck sound ever gear change, but dealer says that's all normal.

    • @VtwinRevolution
      @VtwinRevolution  4 місяці тому +1

      Awesome man ! Congrats on the new bike !!! Unless you have made that bike into a hotrod there is no need to replace that stuff, you have a TON of miles to put on before it’s “worn out” and yes the “clunk” when you shift is perfectly normal these transmissions are what they call constant mesh meaning the gears are always touching so it’s noisy ! My suggestion is to switch to an actual gear oil. Like bel-ray or something like that, that’s a 85/140 weight

      man..... I hat to hear that !! I really do ! this is what causes people to not trust the dealership. or any dealer for that matter ! so this is all I can really give you in terms of help of info, when you bought the bike you were supposed to sign a CPO sheet it would have been a check list that the tech went through and checked off, and MAYBE a multi-point sheet then the service manager has to sign then that gets given to the finance guy. As I imagine your not happy, honestly all your proof is sitting on your bike, if your tires are 10 yrs old thats no bueno !!!! those tires SHOULD have been changed!!!!!!!!!! the only other thing I can tell you to do is call harley customer care, get them involved and you'll see how quickly things are taken care of ! hell if they're 10 yrs old I would imagine they are also below 3/32nds or near the end of their life. You would think higher rpm would be worse on a comp instead of lugging but it is a wearable part in the first place but I tried the Darkhorse comp for twin cam and it does change throttle response are drive response it’s instant and one thing I learned in this situation your really better off with SE comp for just everyday riding because if you have runout it’s going to end badly and if you have a little now it’s just going to worse especially riding hard with the DH it’s mainly what you want and how ride

    • @VtwinRevolution
      @VtwinRevolution  8 місяців тому

      If you think about it, at high RPM it’s not ramping up or working like it would if you were lugging the bike, it’s having to work harder at lower RPM. Those SE comps take a ton of abuse from puttin around and you’re right for everyday riding they get the job done. And I could see one of these comps exaggerating a runout that you’re not aware you have lol

    I'm 63, after riding every brand of motorcycles made since I was 15 years old - The ONLY motorcycle I would never buy again is a Harley, after owning 3 of them. My rice burners have been ridden for tens of thousands of miles, then sold in a good running condition. All 3 of my Harleys spent the majority of their time in the shop! Two of them (bought new) 1985 wide glide, 1997 softail custom, had to have thousands spent on jets, exhaust, air filter, etc. just to be able to ride them. This video shows you having to replace factory parts with aftermarket just to ride the damn motorcycles, this particular issue affects Every Harley made. I have NEVER had to replace parts on any of my import motorcycles other than to make them look better. I can't wrap my head around why anyone still buys HD motorcycles when the only thing they know, is to keep making the displacement larger instead of actually do some engineering to compete with the rest of the market. My 900cc 1985 Kawasaki eliminator can run circles in stock form around any street Harley made (even upgraded), never gets hot (water cooled), has 46k miles, and has never had anything done but adjust the valves, synch. the carbs, tires, and maintenance items. I do however have a 2006 Dyna low rider with 18k miles in the shed that need 5 grand of work (including primary) just to ride it. It will sit there until I die, as I am so over anything Harley Davidson.

      You know I’ve often wondered why ? So if you have a manual adjuster you have to pull the primary cover, which means you’ll need new fluid and a primary gasket each time. Doesn’t seem very smart to run a manual adjuster.

      I hate to hear you’re having a bad experience !! But to be fair, these comps are pretty much for hot motors as they provide some cushion but also act like a solid sprocket. They have their quirks for sure

    Yeah lugging is bas for your primary and everything else - ACTUAL lugging, which is that spot right before stalling where its going CHUG CHUG CHUG and making all kinds of horrible racket and bucking the bike. Thats lugging.
    On the ither side, you DO NOT want to keep these Harkeys at high RPM's. They're extremely long stroke motors with a lot of very unbalanced rotating mass. Long stroke neans high piston velocity for a given RPM, which means faster wear. That's why Diesel engines redline at like 3,500rpm. Same mechanical concept.

    • @VtwinRevolution
      @VtwinRevolution  8 місяців тому +2

      You are correct sir ! Yeah you should check out my video “ I broke my dyna” that’s what sustained high RPM looks like lol

  • @GlenB

    Why don't Indians and the new BMW 1800 have or need compensators? Maybe they do have them but are they as prone to problems? If they don't need them, why does Harley need them?

    • @VtwinRevolution
      @VtwinRevolution  4 місяці тому +1

      Well….if I had to guess they are internally balanced. While the M8’s are internally balanced it’s a crude system that engine pluses need to be absorbed

    • @GlenB
      @GlenB 4 місяці тому +1

      @@VtwinRevolutionSo if being internally balanced is relevant, Softtails should have fewer problems than the rubber mount Harleys. Would you agree?

    • @VtwinRevolution
      @VtwinRevolution  4 місяці тому +1

      Yes, and the twincam “B” motors were some of the best riding bikes….BUT lol still had compensators

    • @VtwinRevolution
      @VtwinRevolution  4 місяці тому +1

      I also think internally balanced bikes not only equate to fewer issues related to vibration but also rider fatigue. You hop on and older TC and ride or even an EVO and it’s a very abrasive ride so to speak….but you hop on a V-rod, pan-am, nightster, sporty S or even an M8 and it’s a MUCH gentler ride

    So does your man o war make a high pitch sound like a turbo or something? I had to go back to stock comp because of the aound i hated it. It felt better with it the drivetrain was solid but the sound drove me crazy.

    • @phdwinner

      @VtwinRevolution I don't know man I had a manual tensioner on there but prior to that I had tried the auto tensioner and same result. I was just throwing darts at it in the end and could not quiet it down. There's a fine line with that one between too lose and too tight. I had the rocks sound and it was too loose. I had it too tight also I thought I had it as good as I could in the end but still sounded like shit.

    • @VtwinRevolution
      @VtwinRevolution  4 місяці тому

      Well you obviously tried everything. And what you’re saying checks out in terms of too loose or too tight. Maybe your bike just didn’t like it. I’ve seen scenarios like that before

      @VtwinRevolution thanks man for the replies. Yeah i want it to work bad i just dont know what to do. I dont know what my runout is on the crank i do know my pinion shadt is straight enough to run an s&s oil pump and cam plate so if that side is good im assuming the crank cant be too far out but its a twinkie so i know it aint perfect.

    • @phdwinner
      @phdwinner 4 місяці тому +1

      @@VtwinRevolutioni think ill try the screamin eagle comp i really dont trust most motorcycle people anymore they wont say if something is bad if they threw down money its like its a hit to thier pride or something. Like the hayden guys that thing is garbage but group think is alive and well. That auto tensioner is a brilliant design and it works exceptionally for cruising at least as far as im concerned. Maybe theres better options if youre on a racetrack or doing burnouts but it aint the hayden. Take care man keep doing what you do
