Hi Matt and Jessica, I know you get a lot of Thank you’s for your super wonderful video’s of your magical and timeless moment’s on a very special Journey aboard a beautiful sailing vessel, I can’t find any better words than Thank You!!! This video really shows of a place that like Matt, has no words to describe such a beautiful place and part of the world. I so enjoy going along with two of the most amazing people on UA-cam!!! You two are STARS in my book!!!
Thank u for being a visitor in my country. There was people visiting us in the year of 1432 as well. Mr. Pietro Querinis and his crew did visit the island of Røst, close to Værøy. He sailed from Venice and he had a cargo of vine and some other stuff for the Netherlands. The severe storm beside Portugal crippled his boat and they drifted for a long time up North - to Røst. You can find his written story by googeling it. From there he brought stockfish to Italy. And the famous dish called Bacalao was a fact. They even have some heritage up here.....
You did a marvelous job of showcasing the truly epic scale of the landscape. While one of your shorter vlogs, length wise, still one of the more awe inspiring! Thank you for the adventure!
Beautiful beach! Didn't realize how large the "cave" opening was until Matt caught you with the drone. The big "boulders" are awesome and the formations are wonderful. I could tell the frustration you were feeling about how to convey how stunning it all was. A pizza and beer would be great with that view!
Beautiful and beguiling: Be very careful with an Arctic Tan; you can burn very badly very quickly and not even realize it until it's too late. Or, just enjoy the moment! Thank you for your adventures. :-)
Thanks Chris. We figured 30+ minutes was a bit too much, but breaking it up into two weeks wouldn't work either. You'll be seeing a lot more a+b parts for the next few months. Matt
I do wish we could have stayed, but with so much to see in such a little time, sometimes a little nudge is needed to move on to the next epic spot. -Matt
Great video. Can you please tell us in the song "Honey Take My Hand", the words when Cody Francis is saying "Hey _ _ _ can I tell you what's on my mind" ?
The excitement is rising - and yes, I can see you also made it to one of the most spectacular places on earth, Reine. Iv'e got friends in one of those fjords and some insane hiking are just around the corner, as well as beaches many times bigger than this on Værøy. Great to see your amazed faces👍
So beautiful ....Im very happy to see that all your hark work has brought to such a magical place ... amazing.... Best wishes and ............................................cheers.
Very cool place. I wanted to see what that sign said on top of that big rock. Also that was a strange blue look you had there at the end! Is it a nerf thing?
We'll be back to Norway, but next time it will be on land for the Northern Lights. We've even thought of flying up for a few days this winter... but the idea of even more cold isn't real exciting this year. -Matt
What the most lovely part of the world, then you see some rubbish from a fishing net by the look at it, it has a number on it, wonder if it could be chaced & the owner fined under a world fine or something.
We haven't found a beach in a long time without something unnatural washed up. It's pretty crazy to think of the damage we've done within the 100 years since plastic was invented. -Matt
@@paulswan1965 It was very encouraging to see recycling of plastics being pushed even in non-touristy areas of Thailand. Education is key to this. -Matt
In Alaska everybody just used sleeping masks. It is fun to imagine some of the burly fishermen and loggers wearing satin flowered or pink old lady sleeping masks but that is usually the best and what was available!
@@danielbuckner2167 One of the things abandoned on this boat when we bought it were 10+ sleep masks. Apparently the previous owner had issues with light and sleeping too. None were flowered or pink. Matt
Different longitude, different products. This was also many years ago. Mine was a satin blue color and my girls were flowered but that is what was available there at that time. I read that the light can detract from deep sleep the brain needs so we wore them. Eventually you will fall asleep regardless though but we liked being well rested.
Really great! I want so much to sail up there. But I only have 3+ weeks available in the Summer and that is not enough from Denmark. I will probably sail up to Stavanger and Lysefjord. Maybe I can make plans in the future for Lofoten.
We meet a lot of sailors that brought their boats to Norway with the intent of leaving them over winter. The idea was to then fly up in Spring and start right in the Lofotens for further North. That made a lot of sense to me.... especially since we arrived so late in the season ourselves. Matt
@@MikeSantis Most we talked to were shooting for Svalbard and had left their boat in Tromso for winter, but starting further south should be an option too. Just FYI, we took three weeks to get from around Bergen to Lofotens. We apparently had odd weather, but I'd at least prepare for that slow of progress. Good luck! It's totally worth it. -Matt
@@mattjohnson6716 thanks Matt. I know Norway very well as I come every year for hiking and been doing it for many years. At least south Norway from Trondheiim and down. And yes I know how much it is worth it. I can imagine seeing Norway from my sailboat! Considering the amount of time needed to sail up the West coast, it all depends naturally of the weather and the wind, the amount of time one have available and the places one wants to stop by and what to do in these places. Some will just make as big jumbs as possible when the weather permits, in order to reach their goal (Lofoten, Tromsø, Svalbard etc). Others will and can use the whole season 4-5 months or so. Others will leave the boat and come back the next season either to carry on further up north, or to begin the return trip back south. Whatever the case, time is always always always the biggest factor. If you have it, you are blessed. If you don't, then you are struggling to find ways of doing what you want. Hope to meet you guys in Denmark if you make it this way.
@@MikeSantis I do wish we had your experience from scouting Norway by land before we went in by sea. But our wonder and excitement was, for large part, driven by the fact that we were experiencing this magical place for the first time and coming in with no real good information. Ignorance does allow everything to be new :) -Matt

All credit to you both for getting out there and off the beaten track, exploring the world.
Although I rarely comment, watching Matt's excited reaction to the beach/cliff view was absolutely enchanting! Thanks!

On our way to Reine the next day we did some sun exposure and I think I did get a little burned on my face and neck.
@@MJSailing Yeah. It's kinda sneaky: The air is pleasant, and you don't even feel the sun burning your skin. Happy for you that it wasn't bad.
Nice episode, guys.
Absolutely stunning beauty there. Keep up the great work!

Such incredible views! Thank you both for taking us along on this adventure of a lifetime!

Incredible in so many ways. Thank you so much sharing this.

Not sure why you would ever get to Portland OR. But if ever you do. Beer is on me. And we have lots to choose from.

Spectacular.
... and for the record; absolutely no palm trees here in Norway ;-)
Actually there are a few planted on island Sør-Hidle just 20 min boat ride from Stavanger.

Stunning vista
Have to put Vaerøy o our list for next summer after Svalbard
Yes, definitely! Since it is only accessable by water, it is still left pretty untouched.
Yes the nature in the north part of Norway is so amazing
Nice video
Nice
So happy for you that you can experience such beauty in your travels.
Thanx for the share! When you say water temps are a bit warmer. What are we talking about?
Is warm enough to swim in w/o wetsuits?
No idea... We haven't touched the water since Thailand :( But I'm sure it was still colder than we'd like.

Incredible on so many levels! Thank you for this! Just sent you a little "gift" through PayPal ;)

No other cruisers there I take it? It seems more like exploring when you have the place to your selves!
It did get a bit lonely at times. We met very few cruisers while we were there, but the ones we did met were awesome.

I think there is another cave by that beach where there are 3000 y.o paintings on the wall...

Hi.
Fantastisk videos.
But I have to correct you, there are no palmthrees in Lofoten or Norway
Out of curiosity, I googled. There are palm trees on the island of Flor og Fjaere a short boat ride from Stavanger, Norway. Who would have thought!
@@beckypincalifornia1985 Not naturally. They are planted out and taken care of. There are no naturally occurring palm trees in Norway, it is too cold.

It looks like the cliffs of insanity from Princess Bride with the tops disappearing into the clouds.
There's such a good hike on that side of the bay as well....could you imagine the views from the top?! 😍

According to the internet, Lofoten is not sub-tropic, but has oceanic or subpolar climate....
"sub tropical" thats a strech - and no natural palmtrees up there...
