I rarely comment on UA-cam or social media, but with so much negativity in the comments on this video, I wanted to add what I hope is a little encouragement. I remember watching the Indiatown build videos and cheering you guys on as you sanded and painted and refit Elements. I look forward to watching each new video you post and seeing the progress. I'm here for the build, sanding, fairing, new footage, old footage, I just enjoy following along. Thanks for sharing.
I have loved every moment watching as you have gone from emptying the containers to where you are today. I'm sure yall will be glad to be done with all the sanding and fairing...geez lol
Massive effort! Just noticed just how many varieties of head cover/breathing protection you've been using. You must have a fairly impression collection covering a variety of situations. It might be informative to do a quick run through what you use and for what. Been following you for a looooong time now.
Thanks Dylan!! We actually plan to do an episode in 2 weeks about our sanding tools and techniques. We'll make sure to add masks and respirators to the list!
Your precision design, craftsmanship and attention to detail is hard to believe. You haven't compromised, and it's taken a lot more time, but you're building one hell of a nice boat!
Thank you so much for the kind words! I often look at random areas that I have been sanding over and over and over again, and wonder if I'll look at it after completion and think "I'm so happy I spent 6 hours on this corner". 😂 But, I have also seen the product of less time consuming builds, and I remember that the extra effort is always worth it in the end. 👍
I hope this is your last build, but if not, I will watch the next one also. I’ve been around for so long and I really appreciate all the dedication you have toward this cat. Looking forward to launch day!
I couldn't do it. I tried, but I ended up fast forwarding to your comments at the end. I felt for you having to watch it again so you could make this episode. I love where you are today. Sounds like we'll see you in maybe a couple weeks. Cool. Stay safe. ❤🙏
OMG what a mammoth task, good for you. I don't think too many people would have such determination and perservance. Look forward to when you start the fittings.
I can't believe we chose to make the dager boards ourselves (instead of having them made at the factory) because we thought there wouldn't be enough for us to do on this project. 😂 Making them was a great learning experience though.
We are doing this with our house at the moment, it was built in 1908 and was neglected, we have a super tight budget and we have been living in chaos, sanding, filling, repairing. We are getting to the stage where one room is nearly finished and it's fun to look back and see the progress we have made. Good luck with everything!
I am doing the exact same thing, by myself. It's hard to type this right now because my hands hurt so much from all the demo, framing and sanding. I am nearly finished with the master bathroom in this 3500 sq foot house. But you are right, I look at the new finished rain shower and know it will be worth it in the end, in about 5 years.
Having read the comments on the last two videos and the comments on Sailing Uma's recent videos as well I wonder why there is a breed of people who seem attracted to these types of channels but do nothing but moan about the content? If you don't like it then watch something else, no-one is forcing you to watch these videos.
People came to both channels for sailing, not build content, although there is an argument to be made about mj that it is a recurring thing. Also, as they have mentionned many times, including on the comments here (and on uma) , it is taking way longer than initially planned. People get bored and annoyed of certain type of content.
Winter is here. Your first time outside in the elements. How does that impact on finishing and pending projects? Heat and condensation, vapor fumes, fibreglassing, clearing snow and ice off the boat, power consumption. You highlighted that things may slow or bigger gaps between posts as a starter. Then holidays, bad weather and supplier chain issues. Motivation to work.
It just amazes and astounds me what you are doing by building this boat yourselves 👍👍👍 You must do one of these time-lapse videos from start to finish when you have completed the boat .... speechless for what you are doing.
I think it must be nice for you to look at these timelapse videos. Because while it must feel frustrating to you how long it has taken, when you look at this video you can also see *how much work you have done!* Looking forward to the fitting out, the launch, and the upcoming travel adventures. But it's also been a lot of fun to follow this massive project that you took on yourselves!!!
You are both doing so well amazing progress now like with home building looks as if the boat is at the weather proof stage ie foundations done, exterior walls done, windows filled and roof on. Keep going hope 🐈 is doing OK.
There was not the option at the time to buy molded pieces of the interior (we were actually the first hull out of the molds in the fall of 2020. The next hull was finished at the factory in December 2021, which they then began making molds of the interior from). We DID have the option for completed dagger board cases to be sent to us, but we foolishly told them we wanted to make it ourselves because we wanted to conquer at least one difficult task during this build. 😂 If we only knew...
Love it- Wasl wondering- would you ever put cat access doors or cat tunnels. Just though how fun it might be to have little cat portals in the doors. The Chief Mate Cat needs access to the whole ship for security inspections and rodent patrol.. LOL instead of calling them cat portals- we could call them air transfer vents. LOL
We used to, but that went out the window quite a while ago. First it was supposed to be summer 2023, then spring '24, fall '24.... We're now thinking a realistic date is fall 2026.
I really appreciate your efforts! Just a quick off-topic question: My OKX wallet holds some USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). How should I go about transferring them to Binance?
It’s unfortunate that you don’t have some method to fair the flat panel surfaces(except the bonding surfaces) before installing in place. I would think that would have saved considerable finishing time.
Considering that I started fairing 3 years ago 😬 (although not full time, we've deviated off to a lot of other projects), I would like to say that I would be about 40% faster than I was before. I actually plan to do an upcoming episode about our sanding tools and the techniques we've learned along the way.
I love your videos! Question for you... As a "rule of thumb," do y'all measure (tolerance wise) to the 1/8", 1/16", 1/32", or 1/64"? Just wondering how tight the fiberglass sections have to be. Just as an aside - I was born and raised in the Chesapeake Bay area. I was a member of CBYRA and CYC. I used to race in many of the local and Chesapeake Bay area regattas. Mom and Dad's home was right on the Choptank and my bedroom faced the bay - what a blast living there! Sailing and Windsurfing all day long. Only thing I don't miss were those "wet-cold" winters! Buuuurrrr! LOL!
Love what you guys are doing, but cringe at spraying primer inside an enclosed space. Rolling on primer is faster fils more pinholes and saves material. And for the love of god use a real orbital sander like the Mirka or the 3 M one using cubitron paper , you would save months.
Why don't you just change your channel into a live stream. That way we can actually watch you work in Jessica. You don't have to narrate so much. Then we'd be able to see you actually working and not walking around the boat yard with all the other boats we're not here for the video quality of anything other than your project.
Hi Mark! 👋 😃 I'm going to give you a tip right now, that you'll probably want to stay away from our channel for the rest of the year. Our next few videos are going to be about techniques we've learned throughout the build. I understand if it's not for you, but I don't want to see you showing up across the next few videos leaving negative remarks. You have been warned - these next videos are not for you. Hopefully you can find some entertainment with Delos, Odd Life, or Sail Life, and their builds. We'll see you again in 2025.
For those of us that follow your channel, most of this has been just a rehash. The daggerboard was a huge project finished months ago when you were still in the enclosed shelter. We're looking for new content, not the content of the last year we can recap from looking at the videos. It's been a month a month to post a video just to post a video that doesn't help us viewers. We really want to stay interested in your project but you're not making it very amenable . If you haven't done anything in the last month just post up a note that way none of us are led into a video to find out that we get to watch what we've already watched. By the way did we really need a luggage commercial.
I’m sorry. It’s as boring the second time as it was the first time. I really miss when this channel was about a beautiful couple traveling to beautiful places and doing fun things. How many years has it been since it was like that? Feels like five to me. Has it been worth five years of your lives to be struggling for so long? Those are a lot of your prime years covered in fiber glass shards. I know you’re in it now, there’s no backing out, you can’t really sell a partially completed boat too easily. But I hope when you’re done with this project in a few years that you are able to put on a brave face and conclude that it wasn’t worth it. I’ve not watched you much in several years and you used to be a favorite. I don’t think I’ve been able to stomach an entire episode in four years, and rarely try to watch any. I just see the thumbnail of your video, sigh and remember better days and hope this will end someday. I wish you had bought a completed boat, even if it was half the boat you hope this one to be. Meanwhile, I still like you two, and I’ll be waiting in the background for the day when you’re doing fun things again. It’s just been very sad to witness this needless drudgery. It’s a complete negation of the lifestyle you had been pursuing.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. It sounds like our current content just isn’t for you-and that’s okay! If boat builds don’t hold your interest, there are plenty of other channels featuring similar projects that might suit your tastes better, like SV Delos, Odd Life Crafting, or Sail Life. And if you’re specifically looking for a beautiful couple traveling the world and doing fun things, our friends Beau and Brandy are a fantastic watch. As for the 'prime years' comment-what exactly are we missing out on right now that we wouldn’t still be doing in five years? Building this boat is our dream, and we’re thrilled to dedicate this chapter of our lives to it. It’s not just about the destination for us-it’s about the journey and the challenge. We’re sorry we couldn’t tailor our episodes to your desires, but this channel has always been about following our own passions, even if that means losing some viewers along the way. You suggested we should’ve bought a completed boat, even if it was 'half the boat we hope this one to be,' just to get back on the water sooner. Why would we compromise on our dream just to cater to someone else’s preference? This channel actually started during a previous boat build, so this isn’t new territory for us. Building brings us immense joy-it’s part of who we are. We’ve always gone back and forth between building and sailing, and we’ll continue to do so. If you’d rather wait until we’re back on the water before rejoining our journey, we’ll see you in two years. Until then, perhaps consider that you might not know everything about us just because we sail part-time. We hope you find the kind of content that brings you joy in the meantime!
@@MJSailing I appreciate your comment. I guess I can only respond that it certainly doesn't look like y'all are having fun. If you are, then I apologize. This is about you and your lives. I'm still here and waiting for the fun for me to return.
Ugggg why do yall do time laps of what we have already watched? Why not do one of what you have done over the past 6 months....oh that's right there wouldn't be much of a video.
It is so cool to look back and see all the amazing work the two of you have accomplished! Keep crushing it 💪💪
I rarely comment on UA-cam or social media, but with so much negativity in the comments on this video, I wanted to add what I hope is a little encouragement. Wow great progress on the build! I bet Matt slept better knowing the dagger board cases were in. Keep up the great work, and see you next time.

Very challenging tasks but your determination, patience and resilience will bring you there. Love it! ❤
An enormous amount of fiberglass construction and surface preparation. All well done too. Congrats on everything you've done to date..
I thought it was a fun way to recap your progress. Im really starting to appreciate why boats are so expensive. 😂 so much labor!
OMG what a mammoth task, good for you. I don't think too many people would have such determination and perservance. Look forward to when you start the fittings.
What a fantastic Project you have taken on together. And what a beautiful job you are making of it. Love the dagger board part of it.
I can't believe we chose to make the dager boards ourselves (instead of having them made at the factory) because we thought there wouldn't be enough for us to do on this project. 😂

Interesting video. Wow, seems like there was a lot more to the daggerboard and pocket build than what we saw earlier. Impressive.
It was such a loooong process!! We definitely learned a lot through it.
That was a great video! Good pace, mix of work and accomplishment.
What a thrill when you have a favorite thing and an achievable goal. I am delighted with the result! Well done!

I'm pretty sure you could teach a master class in fairing at this point, such beautiful work!
So who is going to finish first yourselves, Una or Delos. My bet is on Delos
WOW! What a great episode! I loved the fast get it done pace. That was amazing all that work done in one show. Thank you for sharing 🙂
Nice performance 👍👍👍 Have a great day 😊Greetings 😎
Keep at it ! Your reward is closer by the day !!
Great video, things are moving and coming together.
Have you thought of a diesel/night heater to get the inside up to temp? cheap to run. love the build

Amazing! Hardest working couple on youtube 👍
Well, that was fun. Of course, I was not doing the work. Hope you guys had a great Thanksgiving.
While I have enjoyed the sanding, faring, etc., I'm really looking forward to the installation of the wires, equipment, and fixtures.
Ohhhh my gosh, us too! We are SO READY to get to the next phase of this build!
Closer than further.
Yes, past the half way point now! 😃
you guys have gotten so far
I'm really looking forward to what the next 12 months will bring! 🤩
Jess should have a PhD in boat yoga now. 💪
I actually just received a set of flash cards on boat yoga! 😃🧘♀️
@MJSailing that's hilarious, what a great boater gift idea. 😆
OMG, the amount of work going into this. When you bought the hull kit, was there an option to buy the centreboard cases and the interior fitout?
There was not the option at the time to buy molded pieces of the interior (we were actually the first hull out of the molds in the fall of 2020. The next hull was finished at the factory in December 2021, which they then began making molds of the interior from).

Same!! I remember how happy it would make me each time a green surface was covered with fairing compound. 🥰

I ❤ this shit give me more. you guys are doing an amazing job👍🏾🙌🏾💪🏾
Great !! 👍👍👍👍👍
Im feeling tired and I only watched! Lol
😂
hi i love your vlogs been watching for years , have you got a timeline for the boat build.

Have you thought about liking up with Aquaholic for a session!
"If I knew now what I knew then..." Jessica, how much faster do you think you do the fairing now compared to when you were starting out?

Most of the items we try to be within a MM...so close to a 32nd of an inch. It will hopefully make life easier when we need to install square doors :)
Yay! We all enjoyed the years of episodes of fiberglassing and fairing so much that we all get to see it again.
Love what you guys are doing, but cringe at spraying primer inside an enclosed space. Rolling on primer is faster fils more pinholes and saves material.
