This is the most accurate portrayal of social anxiety I have ever seen with my own two hands
Watching with eyes is even more mind blowing.
Your hands. Your hands. Your hands. Your hands....
O man I didn’t know a the dropped the Braille version for this video!!! SICK!!!!!!
hands hands hands
Hands
“Have any of your relatives died recently?” Absolutely destroyed me
That got me too 😂😂😂
you folks must be one of my relatives!
It's the perfect icebreaker... Perfect for all occasions
surprised he didn't consider telling a dead baby joke 😆
that's so Dax
Completely lost it when Jims monologue started. "I'm not that cool I'm more of a 'hows it going', 'how's it hanging' kinda guy" is a genious line.
never crackin'...

I applaud your attention to quotation syntax
I love how we don't jump into Joel's inner monologue and we just see the tail end of it, implying that he of course had a horrific experience introducing two people from separate friend groups.
Worlds are colliding!
Whuuut?? That's like my favorite thing to do ever. I always figure if I'm friends with both people then they're probably good friend material for each other
Yes, that's what the video was about
@@josephfoster1987 my friend circles are too varied for it to work. Is quite entertaining to see multiple stratae collide when I organize a party at mine or celebrate my birthday. it's like pressing random at the character creation 40 times and throwing them all in a room.
I thought he was going to say something like, "I never went to college" and that he had been lying about graduating to him years ago
My god. That seemingly-pleasant social interaction was just an emotional DISASTER for everyone involved. No winners, only horror.
We should probably just stop interacting all together it would be safer for everyone involved.

Just about everyone, it seems! XD
Well, except the psychopaths.

I love whenever Dax has internal monologue. Reminds me of his vlogs which are artistic masterpieces.
Trent and dax skits are always my favorite. Definitely recommend “Drowning in Potential”
I always like to break the ice with, "Have any of your relatives died recently?" It just works.
I love whenever Dax. - end of sentence
I love his vlogs. They're very calming. I used to follow his vlogs from the early years. It's unmistakable the work of the same mind, but the vibe is so different. It's like, how we grow and change but still keep parts of ourselves.
What's his channel name?
Sweet Jesus. Everybody had these feelings! This was actually a comforting video for me.
you are one of us : )
Between watching this and reading the Alan Moore quote "It's only those exceptional and rare individuals who have brilliant ideas delivered to them by the muse, complete and gift wrapped. The rest of us have to work at it", I may someday become a functional human being
the hand awareness insecurity is something not talked about enough in cinema. thank you guys for being brave
God i thought i was the only one. I get it when I'm walking. I become too aware of my hands and how my arms are moving until i just put them in my pocket.
I don’t think I have ever had this issue, but I’m pretty certain I now will. Thanks guys.

The essence of modern life really is just a bunch of people all smiling and calmly making small talk while they’re all internally panicking about how bad they must be at making small talk and how oafish their hands must look right now
Only if you're so scared that your empathy turns off and you spiral in your solipsistic world. The one thing they all have in common is holding no actual interest in others.

@@MaynardsSpaceship seems like you've overthought about it.
I dont know if Joel writes Dax's rules or not, but I feel like Dax's best performances are in Joel's skits. He always nails it. Trent, Dax, and Joel always seem to play off each other really well.
Its easy to forget that Dax is an INCREDIBLE actor outside of his youtube channel and can fit so many different roles. Like he earned the parts in Project X and 21 Jump Streets for his acting talent
@@mikyonmars I have to dive into daxs work fully so idk everything lol. all I wanna say is I think that his acting plus Joel's cinematography are a stellar combo. Like they compliment each other so well.
It's not really that he's a better actor in Joel's skits it's that they work well together uhm blah blah google Gestalt? :) Have nice day
Dax kind of fell into obscurity for a bit, at least on UA-cam. Between idubbbz doing the mini doc and subsequent shows (Hot Sear is so good) and him getting involved with Joel and those creators… we’re honestly so fuckin lucky to have him back to actively giving us incredible content.
Gotta appreciate creators for propping each other up. We just get delivered gold for free as a result.
I feel like Dax just does such an amazing job when he's left to mostly improv. The "That couldn't have gone any worse" video is still pretty much my favorite.
Also, Another Evil (2016). Very underrated horror comedy. He's not in it for the whole movie but he gets to do a lot with the screentime he has.
jim actually looks friendly and wholesome what'd i'd say
"nice shirt man. kool-aids pretty good"
the master of charisma at work, youre welcome
His entire fucking family died in that shirt you monster.
That's pretty smooth - is it okay if I borrow that for my own conversations?
But the person has forgotten they have a kool-aid shirt on and they kinda smile and laugh in a "what the fuck who is this fucking freak" kind of way
@@aikisteven0616 say it to someone who DOESN'T have a Kool Aid shirt on
I just don't recommend saying kool-aids, because your internal monologue will be working overtime anxious about that the other conversationalists think you just said _cool aids_ and think you most be a dick for saying something as controversial as this.
It's crazy, the thoughts those guys went through normally race through our minds 100000x per second.
Yeah it is odd. Thoughts move way faster than the speed of light lol
@@Krill_all_health_insuranceCEOs fun fact: thought moves at the speed that neurons can react to eachother which is around the speed of sound I think? Not sure
@@corporatecapitalism yeah I don't know. It'd be interesting to find out. What is the speed of "thought"?? And how do we measure it? Probably thru observing neurons in a lab as you said. Feels instantaneous in that uncomfortable or stressful moment.
@@Krill_all_health_insuranceCEOs I’m pretty sure we’ve already found out how fast it is (again not sure 100%) but yeah adrenaline is an amazing thing
@@Krill_all_health_insuranceCEOs no they don't. Not only it isn't faster than light speed, it's more than twice as slow as sound.
For reference, the fastest nervous fibre travels at 120 meters/seconds (268 miles per hour for Americans). Sound travels at 348 m/s (767 mph) and light 670,616,629 mph.
Oh my GOD, I love the subtlety with which Dax tripped up at 2:45 when the guy said “I’m Jim,” because Dax was thinking “he’s John.”
It also sounded like he was going to say “Nice to meet you.” twice before he caught himself.
This is so real. Even though I've been every person on this interaction, I never really realized that everyone else find it as awkward as me. I genuinely thought everyone else were cooler and better friends than I, just having a great time catching up. Thanks for the new perspective - guess I'm not as socially inept as I thought

It's heartwarming to see that Joel and Dax's friendship has grown to the point where Dax is the good friend in skits and someone else is the weird acquaintance now
This is one of my new favorites. Personal anxiety, internal monologue, great video angles. Absolutely Insaneo style.
This is less an exaggeration for neurodivergents and more of a piercing insight into how we process social situations.
There is a big culture of trying to capture these awkward, relatable social situations. Joel’s been doing amazing at it for a while, but man… this one is top notch and cute. Always makes me feel better that I’m not alone.
I am still HAUNTED by the time I was out with someone who bumped into a friend and never introduced me. I lived an internal horror very close to this and eventually slowly drifted away from the two of them and pretended I was looking at stuff until it was over.
This is relatable on a spirituel level
did you watch this on 2x speed? 😭
Wow two misspellings both accidently typed with "ue" how do I loop them into talking about this
Spearrit
@PilgrimsProgFest 😭 oh the inner termuel
I kinda look like the Kool aid shirt guy so in a way it's also physically relatable
Dax’s facial expressions are so good. He really sells the part 😂
Every video with Joel and Dax is great. So relatable. A shame they never got to talk about their hands together. Seems like that would have been a really great converation :L
J:
Dax: You know, Joel, I was thinking about hands the other day. It's so weird, right? Like, we have these five-fingered appendages at the end of our arms.
Joel: Yeah, hands are strange. They're so sensitive, like you can feel everything with them. Sometimes when I touch something, it's almost overwhelming.
Dax: I know what you mean. And when you're in a social situation, it's like, what do you even do with your hands? Do you put them in your pockets or cross your arms?
Joel: It's amazing how much you can feel with your hands. Like, you can tell the difference between textures just by touching them. I once picked up a rock that felt like it had tiny bumps all over it.
Dax: Right, but going back to social situations, it's like my hands suddenly become these foreign objects that I don't know what to do with. Do I gesture while I'm talking or keep them by my side?
Joel: I wonder if everyone else's hands are as sensitive as mine. Like, can you feel the ridges on your fingertips when you touch something smooth?
Dax: But seriously, sometimes I find myself overthinking what I'm doing with my hands when I'm talking to someone. It's like, should I be moving them more, or is it better to keep them still?
Joel: Oh, and what about the temperature of things? I can tell if something is warm or cold just by touching it. It's kind of amazing when you think about it.
Dax: Yeah, okay, but let's talk about handshakes. Are they supposed to be firm or gentle? I don't want to come across as aggressive or weak, you know?
Joel: Speaking of touching, do you ever think about how many things you touch in a day? It's like, we're constantly using our hands to interact with the world around us.
Dax: I suppose, but I'm more focused on what I'm supposed to do with my hands when I'm not using them for something specific. Like, do I hold a drink or just let them hang there?
Joel: It's funny, sometimes I'll just touch things for no reason. Like, I'll run my fingers over the surface of a table or a wall, just to see how it feels.
Dax: So, I tried clasping my hands together once, but then it looked like I was praying or something. It's a never-ending battle to figure out what's appropriate in different social settings.
Joel: I've always thought it was interesting how people can tell so much about a person just by looking at their hands. Like, you can see if they work with their hands a lot or if they take care of them.
Dax: Well, I guess I'll just have to keep experimenting with different ways to hold my hands. Maybe one day I'll find the perfect solution.
Joel: You know, I've never really thought about what to do with my hands in social situations. I guess I'm just too focused on how they feel and what I can do with them.

usually a lot of comedy sketches are taken to their logical extremes, but the ending of this one reverts from the dramatization of something banal to implied genuine PTSD. truly monumental subversion by Joel, Dax, and Jim in this sketch.
Man I somehow did not expect the other friends POV lmao
I love the over-dramatization of life's unspoken nuances. As an awkward introvert, I resonate with so many of your videos. So funny. Keep em up (the videos)
I usually go with “Oh hi nice to see you! Uh you have any loved ones die recently? Friends? Family? It was probably devastating for you. You probably cried. You cried right? Now life’s a little emptier without them? Anyway I’m on my way to whataburger.” Then elegantly disengage. Don’t even think about hands once.. hands.. my.. hands..
I just want to highlight how well synchronized the music was with the whole sketch. Pretty impressive.well done
Perfectly lining up the transition between intro and theme of the Sonata Pathetique with the switch in monologues was brilliant Joel, you rock man.
Dax, this is a work of art.
And so many subtle nods.
I love how the music is perfectly synchronized with the sketch. It ties it all together perfectly and makes you feel the anxiety that they had in the video. This video is art!
This was great because it reminded me that everyone else worries about things too. I'm not the only one overthinking sometimes.
This is how most of my social interactions go in my head lol
Joel's outfits always go insaneo style
On todays episode of Joel’s very relatable videos detailing the struggles of social anxiety
I’ve never felt so SEEN, HEARD, and truly UNDERSTOOD 😩
You have just captured humanity exquisitely in a short comedy video!!! Brilliance! Brilliance!
"Are you thirsty" is a great conversation started for such a huge soft drinks fan
The camera work in this is ON POINT
That's why pockets are a NECESSITY! No hand horror to be had once you've hidden them away
This is an absolute genius masterpiece, and I mean that sincerely. I just recently discovered your channel and I’m hooked. It’s like I’ve found my people.
This must be the most underrated video on this planet, for sure.
Joel, you and your friends make some of the best shorts on UA-cam. I've rarely seen social awkwardness captured on video as well as this. Keep it going, you guys have real talent.
This is a fucking masterpiece. The music, the relatability, the realism of their dialogue, the switch in monologues in the middle, the flashbacks to previous awkward interactions, the way each camera shot brings out the characters' feelings...
my favorite part was when Dax revealed his favorite animal (monkey)
it's rare i find a video so good that it makes me decide to go and do something so i can leave the page open and come back to watch it again in half an hour to appreciate it some more, this is absolutely one of those videos.
Great video! Let's all give Joel a hand! Hand! Hands!
I feel like this is low key some of your best work. Just a little gem of pure gold. Thank you and all of your actors for creating this :)
I loved the music in this. And it was interesting to hear everyone's different internal monologues about how they came across

I knew from the title it would be a master piece. And it was
How did you translate my social anxiety into a perfect video??
Every Joel video is the purest form of joy in video form.
Dax's body language in 0:53 made me feel his anxiety more than his "are you thirstyyyyy"
Love this so much!! I struggled with a lot of anxiety in my life and this speaks to me. The soundtrack coming in was so unexpected. I'm always impressed with your ideas, thank you for continuing to inspire.

No one has defined social anxiety better than this video does.
thanks to this video i now notice every situation where people are looking at their hands during conversation
I sometimes wonder how many people in my life I could've been really good friends with if I wasn't such an awkward mess.
Loved the music in this, lining it up with the credits was such a nice touch!
We've crossed a threshold today. I think Joel and his friends have created a new genre of comedic sketch.
No idea what it's called but he always nails making us and feel existential dread about social interactions - while giggling because the sketch is so funny
All too relatable. Yet another wonderful video from Joel and great acting from everyone all around!
I love seeing dax in roles that don't make him look weird. God this is so real.
I absolutely love dax in your skits, I like his content but he just works so well with your writing, he absolutely carries this video
The switch to the other monologue was the funniest shit ever. Fantastic
This is fantastic, my fav from this channel in a while
I've had a few such situations, right on a street just like in this film, and even though it's always somewhat awkward, it's not that bad if you play your cards right. Trying to bring both friends into conversation, asking the just-met friend where they're heading to, finishing the conversation when the time's just right (which is usually just 'not too long') - all this helps smooth it out like butter. Overall, when the two don't know each other at all and have different interests, the best tactic is to just end the horror as soon as possible, within 30 seconds preferably.
lol at the awkward jog at the end.... that joke is burnt in my memory now, thanks
THIS - Dax - is what you're born to do!
You fit perfectly in Joel's videos.
I don't know if he's directing you or whatnot, but you really "pop" on the screen in his videos! (not so much on your own channel (sorry), but whatever Joels and your secret/recipe/chemistry is, it's working in your favor! )
This was an immaculate work of art. The nod to The Heart of Darkness at the end pushed it over the the edge for me.
Hey jusy remember other people in a conversation might be as nervous as you are
I love @Daxflame 's beautiful improv lines. This is a masterpiece of life.
Life was so much easier during the pandemic when scenarios like this could never happen.
