USB fast charger on the BMW R1250GS-Powering Carpurides W502/W702 Navigation Units

- Previously I installed the double USB charger from Nippy Normans, as the BMW R1250GS's single unit ,was simply not powerful enough to power the Navigation units that I was testing from Carpuride, who had given to me their W502 and W702 motorcycle navigation CarPlay units.
My fault, I didn't check the specifications of the double USB, although Nippy Normans did inform me that they had a more powerful unit available, due in soon and I could change my order....but in my impatience I continued with my original order.
Yes, you guessed it, the double USB from Nippy Normans was only 2.3amps and the Navigation units were 2.5amps. I should have listened to Nippy Normans and waited for the fast charging USB unit. Anyway I ended up getting that unit and it works great and the Carpuride units are now powering up with no issues.

To aid the waterproofness of the USB fast charger, here's a tip. Use wax earplugs from Amazon, £5.17:

It’s the Volts * AMPs that make it better than other chargers.
USB-C port is 12V * 3A aka 36Watts
USB-A port is up to 4.5V * 5A aka 22.5Watts
It would be perfect if it also had downward facing ports like the OEM.
Just keeping it simple for the masses😂

thanks for this, are you changing your dash? I see you still have GS dash on there, have you unlocked the sport mode and extra heating settings for your grips and seat?

@gsd32i GS911 had an update, which allows you to pick the start up on our tft dash, it also allows you to play with the intensity of your lights and blinkers, allows you more options on your heated grips and seat.
@@BeanieBiker_AutisticRider mine went in for its 2 year service and no change to the tft menu settings . Do I have to stand on one leg and rub my noise or something to get the new options ? 😁I don’t have them .
@gsd32i do you have a GS911? I could do this for you, I have 9 spaces left on my GS911. I posted a video not long a go on my channel, I have the sport mode dash and lean angles and the lap timer all enabled on mine and I've changed the heated grip settings from 3 to 6

What do you use to charge your mobile while riding on your 1250?
Hi Pedro, either a power brick or just use one of the cables fed into my pocket from the usb socket, or using a tank bag put the phone in that.
@@gsd32i yeah, i have a tank bag i just wonder how to put the cable there ensuring that it's waterproof, i saw what you did with the earplugs, but i think it would be better if we could have a single unit 12v-usbC with integrated cable, that way we wouldn't botter with sealing anything....
@@pedropradocarvalho Hi. I am sure that the cables as they are would be fine but the silicone was something I had seen others doing. I wouldn't want integrated cables as what would you do with them when not needed? Hopefully then plugs wouldn't get too wet anyway due to their position. Ride safe 👍
On the GSA there’s a plug under the seat for din socket (heated gear) Left side and tucked behind the ecu. It’s 12v and 10amp because it’s for heated jackets.
Also if you binned the nav cradle the plug is good for 12v 3amp.
You can either buy a cable, Nippy needs to update the nav charger plug to USB PD3
@pedropradocarvalho if you have the quadlock Wireless charger, your phone sits on the top and charges, you can then get the specific waterproof rain cover for your phone, allowing it to charge and not get wet, they are really good, just did it for my bike.
