    I’m only on day 3 (cold Turkey), but this is what really helps…. Every time I get a BAD craving, I tell myself (often out loud) “Smoking a cigarette will NOT change ANYTHING. It won’t change the way I feel, it won’t give me a good buzz… it’s literally WORTHLESS.”
    For whatever reason, this helps me a lot…. Just telling myself that it is POINTLESS.

    It takes one big thing to help quit. For me, my niece (age 4) asked if she could smoke too. She looks up to me so much. It hit me hard so I told myself to use the power of love to help me....and it has. I'm on Day 5 after smoking a pack a day for 2 decades.
    I placed notes all over my room like 'do you want Zoey admiring a smoker?', 'do it for zoey', etc as visible reminders. With every craving, I scroll through photos of her or I just go downstairs and hold her. It helps. And I'll never smoke again. It's the power of my love for her and hers for me that keeps me going ❤💏

    I think we all have been in a quantum quandary between denial and contemplation at some point. Before, now, later; either in denial or in contemplation or somewhere between. Whether it's alcohol, eating habits, exercise, smoking, being nice, following goals, anything. The Quantum Quandary of Existence. I'm coining that.

    Hi Rita. Thanks for this video as it helped me realise I am in the contemplation phase which had me worried as I thought I should be hurrying which made me beat myself up. One thing I would like to have you address is the fact that since I enrolled in your course and leading up to that decision my smoking increased by up twice what it was and I would like to know why my brain is doing this. I presume it has to do with fear but I am beating myself up about it!

      Maybe you subconsciously think you should get all the cigarettes in as long as it's possible before you finally quit. Maybe it's a good sign. I usually didn't smoke inside my apartment because my boyfriend is a nonsmoker and hates the smell. So 2 weeks ago he went out of town and I was smoking in my living room, living my best life... And I smoked so much Friday - Sunday, I was kinda grossed out by myself and switched phases. From thinking about stopping to OK THIS IS ENOUGH. 😂❤️ Send you strength, stranger. You got this! I'm smoke free since then.

I think you did a fabulous job in presenting simple, practical steps, and embracing emotional aspects, always part of the change process. This feels very nonthreatening and nonjudgmental. The mind has to go through no stages or psychology, just this; realise you are in the grip of a powerful addiction and realise that you will only break it if you go through every hell life throws at you without lighting up for 1 year. It depends for different people. Some people get really challenged when someone they know dies of smoking reasons or because they are jealous of someone else quitting or they have a bad reminder of their smoking which gives them a shock reality check that forces their mind to really consider making the big change. Other times it is a natural progression but other times people continue to smoke despite the health problems because of the ingrained addiction.
    Either way with the internet, people are able to get information, advice and motivation on quitting smoking which they can use at their own pace and if someones advice dosen’t click with them. Then they can watch another youtube channel.

    Things that can help when quitting...
    1. WATER/TEA (Green tea helps cravings and helps repair tissue damage from smoking)
    2. GOOD HEALTHY WHOLESOME FOOD and FRUITS and VEGETABLES
    3. EXERCISE (Good for you overall in every way)
    4. PROPER SLEEP (Your body recovers & repairs during sleep)
    5. L-GLUTAMINE (Repairs nerve damage, helps with addictions and cravings) Mix it with a healthy protein shake or 100% juice with low acidity or water.
    6. EPSOM SALT BATHS (Helps draw out the tar, nicotine and toxins through the skin. Saunas can help too)
    7. SUGARLESS GUM AND MINTS (Helps for some people)
    8. Pick up a new hobby or learn something new
    9. Play with your kids or pets (If you have any)
    10. GO FOR A WALK
    11. Try relaxation techniques (massage, deep breathing, calm music, aromatherapy etc)
    12. Join an online community or read and gain more knowledge on the damaging effects of smoking or just read a book.
    13. AVOID SUGAR and CAFFEINE when quitting. (Can cause relapse) Avoid NICOTINE REPLACEMENT THERAPY and VAPING (For some they keep you addicted and you’re basically teasing yourself) Remind yourself of all the benefits of not smoking.
    14. NATURAL HERBS TO HELP WITH STRESS AND SLEEP can help (Do your research and if you have any medical conditions speak to your doctor) Ashwagandha (good for stress and helps sleep, research others too) Passionflower, Valerian root, Chamomile, Mint, Holy Basil etc.. or melatonin.
    15. THROW AWAY SMOKING PARAPHERNALIA & DON’T dwell or look back. Things will improve as you go forward. First week is the hardest for some. (Also staying away from smokers for some people makes it easier for the first 3 days or week)
    ** “While L-glutamine supplementation is usually considered safe for most people, there are some who should avoid it. PEOPLE WITH KIDNEY DISEASE, LIVER DISEASE OR REYE’S SYNDROME, A SEVERE CONDITION THAT CAN CAUSE SWELLING OF THE LIVER AND BRAIN, SHOULD AVOID TAKING L- GLUTAMINE SUPPLEMENTS.” **
    Smoking doesn’t help you relax. Only when you’re eager to light up because you’re a smoker. So you’re stuck in a cycle. You can break free but you have to want to give up smoking with a strong desire. Preparing helps.
    ALWAYS BE KIND TO YOURSELF AND REMEMBER DOING SOMETHING IS BETTER THAN DOING NOTHING AT ALL.
    GOOD LUCK!

  • @SometimeAgo65
    @SometimeAgo65 2 роки тому +3

    If you quit 23 years ago, you didn't really smoke that long then. Do you think these steps apply to people who have smoked for 45 - 50 years? Most people at that stage are not really in denial. They have developed some very deep obsessions and habits that have been part of their life for MANY years and with aging they're probably desperate to quit because they can't breathe good. Or even if they don't have breathing problems, they know they're inevitable; therefore, they have MORE stress and anxiety. What is your suggestion for LONG TERM smokers.

    • @coryjohnson2486
      @coryjohnson2486 2 роки тому +3

      Get a TON of regular chewing gum. Put packs in your car, in your room, at work, and by the TV. You have to just decide one day that you REALLY want to quit, then you just stop. Chew gum constantly and try to keep yourself busy… maybe start exercising regularly. Much easier said than done, but that’s the best way in my opinion. You will NOT succeed if you don’t REALLY want to.

    • @JaZmine147
      @JaZmine147 2 роки тому +4

      You can change your habits and deep obsessions with time. If you usually smoke when you have your morning coffee, drink freshly made orange juice instead. Your hands will have something to work on making that juice and the codependency with the coffee is gone. If you usually smoke after having a big meal, go for a walk with the dog right after dinner instead of sitting around thinking about a cigarette. At the end of the day we smoke because we're bored or because it's an emotional blanket. Trying to find new coping mechanisms and making new habits can be done by someone who smokes 10 years or 40 years. It's all up to your willpower.

    • @lyndonbauer1703
      @lyndonbauer1703 7 місяців тому +2

      These steps apply to everyone unless you're not human. It's often a psychological battle hence why denial is the first step. It's not denial of smoking, it's denial about addiction: "oh I can stop at any time" but you can't. Breathing poorly/health issues are the snapback to reality from delusion. It's a feedback loop of stress. You become stressed about health issues then stressed about giving up smoking, either way you're stressed so why kill yourself at the same time? Say it out loud. It makes no sense. You need a carrot and a stick.

    Honestly I had all this information already in my mind ... the one issue is this ; if I focus too much I will want to smoke ofcourse , If I do not focus I forget I quit smoking and when I am busy answering questions / thinking and so on ; I am used to smoking when I make it comfy for myself and when I sit at my desk creating things and solving issues for others or myself ... I get bored a lot even when I am busy , I feel the constant need to do something ; just sitting is for me not comfortable ... I am always bored even when I do difficult things ; I get bored again ... my mind does a lot the whole time . I am used to smoking because it helped me slowing down ; others can't always go on your level or better yet ; society is not on a high level , usually their level is too slow for me so i get bored and even frustrated .. when I am answering questions for society ; I am still not using my mind ... I am bored and feel the need to fidge into things .. even when I was a kid at school I could not sit still like the others but needed something to fidge in ( some playdoh or so on ) just because I always had to wait for the others to finish the task ... I get bored and frustrated eventually , now that I am trying to quit I feel like it is doing nothing else but NOT being me ; always at THEIR level , how about me beying me for once , without getting bored ? I already do a lot of activities and I am a member of lots of societies but doing nothing ( using both hands when busy ... not needed for me .. ) so I keep on urging to USE something .. it is not about controle anymore but about pure boredom and even when ; I do have an interesting and nice life ??? so wtf about that smoking , this info is not for everyone ? can u help me too ? i crave for something aaaaalll the time , if not a cigarette I keep doing these OCD things

    Enjoying a smoke and not wanting to give up does not mean you are in 'denial.' It means you are quite comfortable with the way you live your life and take no notice of others who cannot help but interfere in it. In denial eh...? Why don't you just leave people in peace...

      95% of smokers want to quit. That’s why. So that obviously doesn’t apply to you. So why watch this video?

      This video was literally made for people who DO want to quit tho bud. It isn’t meant for people (like you) who 100% WANT to smoke. It’s really that simple 🤷‍♂️
