Dash Cam Catches Hood Disaster After Walmart Service

- In January of 2024 I took my vehicle to Wal-Mart for an oil change, a few minutes later my hood flew up and smashed through my windshield while driving at 70 mph on the interstate. This was a result of the technician failing to secure the hood properly. This incident resulted in $5k of damages, the damages were covered by Wal-Mart and they got me back on the road relatively quickly.
Although this was a serious mistake, I feel that it was an honest mistake that could have resulted in disastrous consequences. I hold no ill-will towards the technician or Wal-Mart, but I will be checking my hood every time it is worked on by anyone.
Stay safe and double-check your vehicle after service!
What’s up Fried Acorns. Сan I add your video to my channel?
Yes you can.
Who else thinks taking your car to Walmart is just plain dumb?
Hey! Glad you're doing okay, much worse could've happened but since you've kept your calm and the control on the steering wheel and brakes, the worse was avoided!
Have heard too many stories like this concerning the Walmart garage to EVER go to the place myself.
hi again, may I feature it too?*
Yes you can
@@friedacorns thanks
Hi there again, ok if I feature it? Credited of course!
And where did this happen?
Yes you can. It happened in DePere, Wisconsin.
@@friedacorns Thank you!
Walmart 5090 in De Pere WI. Thanks for the dashcam.
This is why "walmart" and "oil change" don't even belong in the same sentence.
Hello! We're impressed by your video and would like to feature it in our project on our social networks. Can we use it? We'll make sure to credit you properly
Yes you can
@@friedacorns Thank you!
You wouldn’t got a penny if you never had dash cam 👍
1:43, this used to be common on the Citroen DS.
This is why I check the oil before I leave the parking lot
somehow you ended up in a snow drift when there was no snow in sight in the video? and looks like they close the hood
There's plenty of snow in the video. And he dropped the hood down but didn't ensure it was properly latched.
I'm sorry whenever I go to any shop. I look under the car for leaks and make sure everything is shut tight.
That is a great point, one time I got my oil changed and the tech didn't notice the old filter gasket didn't come off with the filter, so when they put the new filter on the old gasket was still in place. Thankfully I noticed the oil pouring out as soon as they pulled my car out of the shop, so there was no damage.
And remember, respect is everything!
I don't know specifically what your referring to, but I think that's true in general, we should (generally speaking) all have respect for one another. In this incident I personally have respect for Walmart that they stepped up and took care of their responsibility, I also respect the technician who has personally worked on my tires and done my oil changes numerous times. Not that it's OK but, it was the end of the day and we have all made mistakes or oversights that could have turned out worse than they did.
@@friedacorns it’s a reference to GTA2. The sped up video and voice sounds exactly like that!
@@pixelgram93 LOL I guess that I took your original comment way to seriously.
@@friedacorns ye, love it!
Also you could clearly tell a open hood or one not shut all of the way as you look over it while driving. But hey nice way to sue.
I didn't sue and didn't make any money, walmart fixed their mistake and I was happy with that. And are you arguing that it isn't the shops responsibility so properly secure your hood after service? And fyi, there are two stages to a hood latch, since it was only half shut, it visually appeared shut but wasn't secure. Similar to if you pop your hood without agitator going out and using the lever to actually open it.
How could you not see it bouncing. A closed hood makes no movement at all.
I've actually seen quite a few hoods that have flex or movement when closed, the Nissan Altima is a notable one. And no I did not notice any bouncing in real time. If I had then I would have gotten out and checked the hood.
