    You nailed it! All valid points! Inland guides who don't promote C&R, and people who fill the freezer with 10-20 times their possession limit do more harm.

    It's been way overdue to reduce bag limits on fish. Especially on panfish. Honestly, there are many people who keep their limit every time they go out. And they keep the big fish that are needed to reproduce. I don't have livescope, would like to. But we need to put bag limits on fish to help bring them back to the populations we want them at. That's what needs to be done, not banning Livescope. Thanks for video.

      So why do we have to reduce bag limits? It's because fisherman have access to ever more capable electronics. So why reduce bag limits that were never an issue 30 years ago? Why not limit advanced TV views of fish? I'll tell you why. Greed and laziness.

    • @dansmidwestangling
      @dansmidwestangling  9 місяців тому +4

      @tomp3146 keeping a limit of fish that weren't caught with the aid of eletronics does the same amount of damage to a fishery as keeping a limit of fish caught with the aid of electronics. You can't cry about others being greedy as a reason you should still be allowed to be greedy. Keeping your limit every time you go fishing is greed, I don't care what tech you use or how fancy your boat is. If more people practiced catch and release we wouldn't have to have this idiotic argument in the first place

    Lower bag limits is key. Abiding by the possesion limits is essential to future populations.

    The Dormant Commerce Clause and its Purpose:
    The Dormant Commerce Clause is a principle derived from the U.S. Constitution's Commerce Clause (Article I, Section 8, Clause 3). This clause grants Congress the power to regulate commerce "among the several States." Over time, the Supreme Court has interpreted this to mean that states can't enact laws that unfairly burden interstate commerce, even if they apply equally within their borders.
    The Dormant Commerce Clause prevents states from creating economic barriers between each other and ensures a national marketplace.
    How the Sonar Ban Could Violate the Dormant Commerce Clause:
    There are two main ways a Wisconsin ban on forward-facing sonar could be challenged under the Dormant Commerce Clause:
    Discriminatory Effect:
    Even if the ban applies to everyone in Wisconsin, it could be discriminatory if it disproportionately impacts out-of-state businesses.
    For instance, imagine the forward-facing sonar industry is primarily outside Wisconsin. A ban on this equipment could unfairly burden these out-of-state companies by limiting their market and potentially leading to job losses.
    The law would have to be analyzed to see if it specifically targets out-of-state businesses or products, but even an even-handed law could be challenged if it disproportionately impacts interstate commerce.
    Undue Burden on Interstate Commerce:
    A state law can be challenged if it creates an undue burden on interstate commerce, regardless of whether it discriminates against out-of-state businesses.
    Here's how this might play out in the sonar ban scenario:
    The state of Wisconsin would argue that the ban is necessary to conserve fish populations, a legitimate state interest.
    Opponents of the ban would likely argue that it's an excessive restriction on interstate commerce for several reasons:
    The high cost of sonar might already prevent many in-state anglers from affording it, so the ban wouldn't necessarily level the playing field.
    There might be alternative fishing methods that don't require sonar, making a complete ban unnecessary.
    The sonar industry would likely argue that the ban hurts their business and restricts the free flow of goods (sonar equipment) across state lines.
    Courts would consider these arguments and weigh the state's interest in protecting fish against the burden placed on interstate commerce. The ban could be struck down if the burden is deemed excessive compared to the state's interest.
    Examples of Similar Cases:
    There have been past Supreme Court cases that illustrate the Dormant Commerce Clause in action:
    Baldwin v. G. A. F. Seelig, Inc. (1931): A New York law that favored in-state dairy farmers was found to violate the Dormant Commerce Clause because it discriminated against out-of-state milk producers.
    CTS Corp. v. Dynamics Corp. of America (1982): An Indiana law that required a certain percentage of a company's board of directors to be Indiana residents was struck down because it placed an undue burden on interstate commerce by making it more difficult for companies to merge or acquire out-of-state businesses. Good Luck! It isn't happening! The state of Wisconsin doesn't have the authority to ban livescope.

    Awesome video! I wholeheartedly agree with everything you said. You are 💯 on the money. In my opinion Livescope users are much more likely to be into selective harvest or catch and release. The only thing that will have a significant impact on fish populations is reducing bag limits. It is the meat hunters that go out there every time and fill their buckets who are the problem. They go out there with their side scan (apparently that is ok with these people) or polarized sunglasses to locate bluegill beds and then proceed to catch and keep every fish on the beds and wipeout an entire year class of fish and then wonder why fishing isn’t as good as it used to to be.

    Forward facing sonar doesn't make them bite. Does it make easier to find them, yes, but doe so side imaging and 2D sonar for that matter. New tools are invented to make a person more efficient, whether it cordless power tools versus corded or forward facing sonar. Any one who has used FFS knows its super cool technology that can make fishing really fun. But with that comes responsibility. You can't keep your limit every time, regardless of how you're catching fish. Lower bag limits are essential, not only because of FFS , but all electronics . No one person needs 25 panfish per day in Wi, especially with the number of fisher persons today. As far as the musky situation, most musky guys are all about catch and release, so I don't see how FFS can be the cause of declining numbers, if that's even true.

    Maybe the best thing to do for our fishing in wisconsin is to ban fibs. 😅
    They definitely know what a bag limit is, but have never heard of a possession limit.
    I know im generalizing, but sems to always be out of state people getting busted for coolers full to bring home. So i vote to ban fibs. Might as well throw swampies in there too.😅

    Ref Randy Blaukat: His overriding concern is that the pro circuit is much less exciting with guys simply staring at ginormous screens all day long. Boring. Case in point: The majority of this years top 10 finishers are rookies who exclusively used scoping. Just a fact. If it were up to me I'd nix all fish finding electronics other than mapping and depth for safety reasons. Ref Cost: First have to purchase electronics that support scoping/$1,100 low end. Then the live-scope / $1,700 to 4,000. So yes! That is somewhat elitist. Lastly: Bank fisherman have none of this stuff. Just pure fishing for the love of the outdoors and being on and/or near the water.

    My issue with Livescope is that it borders on negating the principle of fair chase, which is a fundamental aspect of ethical hunting and fishing. Part of the challenge of fishing is using your intuition to locate the fish. Something about seeing a blip of a fish on a screen (that you wouldn’t otherwise see) and dropping a bait in front of it doesn’t sit right with me. Even with no guarantee that it will bite. I stare into screens too much these days to want to do so out on the water.

    Banning Livescope and FFS would be a good idea for smaller sets of water. I don't have an issue with it on larger bodies of water such as Winnebago, Green Bay, etc. I don't see a place for it on smaller bodies of water and for sure I don't like it for ice fishing. Sure it's fun to use if you can afford it. (You are correct... I don't own one.)

    I dont think it needs banned. We have lakes here in Kansas that are power plant lakes and they have more strict limits for size and quantity. And the fish when you do catch good ones are typically bigger than ones at regular lakes. When one of my friend's and i fish we don't typically keep limits. And as far as the walleye go we told one another that any over 23 inches we would release because they are typically breeder fish. Then you have catfish blues or flathead i dont keep any. But love to target big catfish. Catch and release is a great thing. I do like to try old school techniques to fish. But the side scan and down image helps locate the fish but once i find them i pretty much forget about the graph.

    I was wondering if this was ever going to happen, and I hope it does here in WI. It will force a lot of these Yuppies to stop watching me with binoculars and actually LEARN how to fish instead of just spending more $$$. The walleye population on Green Bay is starting the the same drop as the Yellow Perch did 30 years ago. Except instead of commercial netting, its Guide Services taking 2 trips daily of 5 people and Tournaments every weekend. Commercial Profits on a resource should be focused on more. Bag limits also, there is no way anyone can eat 25 panfish or 5 walleye a day. Thats especially harsh on inland lakes. Theres locals like myself that have fished here our entire life, and now dont even want to battle the traffic and a$$holes clogging up boat ramps with $80k boats who dont know anything besides go troll circles around everyone else. If theres any brightside to the hoards of LiveScope Circle Fisherman is that it forced me to target other fish to avoid people.

      Exactly. I got a chance this winter on the ice to really give my buddy's a try. Yeah we used it to find bait balls and sharpshoot, blah blah blah. But the most effective thing we did with it was using it to watch the tip-ups outside the shack. We saw just how many fish weren't buying what we were selling and it helped us make adjustments. As pretty much everyone has said, In the end, you still gotta catch them!

    I remember when the first flashers became popular and also the first Lowrance paper chart sonar graphs, people said the same thing about them. A FAR bigger worry is the number of license buyers for fishing and hunting has seen a steady decline over the last several decades. The second that gets low enough, we will not have enough influence politically to protect our hunting and fishing rights. THAT is a MUCH bigger problem. If electronics brings more people into our sport as license buyers, we all win. The more license buying fisherman there are, the more political influence we have over managing the resource and the amount of money directed to stocking programs and fish management activities.

    Technology isn’t the issue, people keeping too many fish is the problem. There’s hardly a lake in Wisconsin that should allow more than a 10 fish limit for panfish. Most people fish with other people, 10 fish a piece is way more than enough fish. Guides and outfitters should also have smaller limits than the general public. Their job is to teach people how to catch fish, not fill limits every day.

    I'm neither a "have" or a "have not" i can afford it. Haven't bought it because I believe it is destroying our fisheries. I don't care about the entertainment. They've ruined amazing lakes

    • @dansmidwestangling
      @dansmidwestangling  8 місяців тому +1

      Then surely you're in favor of lowering bag limits

    • @Bassstudent
      @Bassstudent 8 місяців тому

      @dansmidwestangling absolutely if it'll maintain population. Also 10% of catch and release fish die from the stress, so more fish caught due to FFS = more fish dead regardless of bag limits

    • @dansmidwestangling
      @dansmidwestangling  8 місяців тому

      @Bassstudent here's the thing though, the majority of people, myself included, don't even have the technology to begin with. If it really is a minority of anglers that are destroying the fisheries, then they are in a lot more trouble than anyone is willing to admit. As a sport, we're collectively better at fishing than we've ever been. There's also more people fishing now than there have ever been. I don't think just banning things based on anecdotes is a very rational approach. You can keep fish w/o FFS and you can certainly have delayed mortality without it. If they lower limits and put out education programs on the importance of rapid release and there's still SCIENTIFIC proof of further decline, then we can discuss FFS. Let's not just shoot from the hip and ask questions later. If the argument is simply "less people need to have success" then why the F are we even doing this as a sport?

    I’m not looking to argue, I’m so over that. I’ve got AT2 and I love it . I’ve watched pro tournament fishing since the early 1990’s and imo there is no doubt that the dominance that ffs has provided has made the coverage less enjoyable. The top 10 is entirely made up of scopers by the third day and you no longer see coverage of the spinnerbaits, jigs, frogs etc.. while covering water. In pre 2020 tournaments a variety of techniques were included in the leaderboard. To each his own, I personally enjoyed it more. I do hope we come to a resolution so we can get back to fishing and stop arguing.

  • @tonynienas169

    It should be banned for any professional tournaments in the state of WI. This tool in those anglers can have an impact on fish populations due to mortality rate of the 5 fish kept in "live wells" all day and then release back into the lake. The MLF model of weighing the fish and releasing immediately promotes less harm to trophy fish in those waters. Would much rather see all tournaments go to this format.

    • @muthafukajones1513

    I've had live scope for three months now and haven't caught a single fish with it. When I do use it the fish swim away. But besides that our lakes around my area are already depleted of fish, I personally know people, that go fishing like this guy said, without using any fishing technologies. And fish Saturday and Sunday, practically every weekend and come home with limits of fish most of the time. And think it's okay. But then wonder why after they do that to a lake for a while . Wonder why they can't catch anything , anymore . What I don't understand is people will spend $100,000.00 dollars or more on boats and vehicles to pull the boat.
    But that maybe if people spend more money on planting fish. And spent more money on replenishing the fish population.
    Besides reducing the daily bag limits.
    I would be for, increasing the fees for fishing licenses, for money on restocking fish populations. And when it comes to panfish in Wis. They need to close the season on pan fish when they are sponging. I believe the DNR should be focusing more on restocking fish so that there's fish to catch. Even if fisherman has to pay more for licenses. Because we have lakes that can produce fish. But with the fishing pressure without technology, it has been depleting the fish population. I believe the DNR needs to step up there game. And get more fish in our lakes. Including panfish. Instead of blaming the fisherman.

    I think they needed to make it illegal to have homes, and cottages on the lakes. It's people that live on the lakes that can catch a limit of fish, and take them to the cottage, and then go right back fishing again. Even reduced limits don't mean anything to those people. We could play the blame game. But being, people want to fish. The DNR. Need to get off of there Duff's and plant fish so there is something to catch. I see too many 10,000 Acer lakes that hardly have any fish. And one really big lake I was told by local people. That somebody with the lake. Used something to kill the weed in the lake. For the boaters . But found out it was killing the panfish. But then they blamed the fisherman.

      No can do on the Randy change.... you'll have to file a motion with the big boss Randy who's causing all the ruckus if you want to get that done 🤣
      The motor itself wasn't the entire 10G's, I put over 10 into the truck all at once and the overwhelming majority of that cost was the motor and the labor to do so, with a ton of stupid little things that need attention on a 50 year old truck. It was just easier to say 10k motor, but regardless its very shiny under the hood and She definitely moves now, though!

      @jclisch66 It is a disaster for the sport, I've been an avid bass fisherman since 1986, I can afford it, but I don't want it. I spent my life trying to figure out what bass do in all situations and fish for accordingly. Now nothing matters, just turn on machine and find fish that bite. Tournament fishing has always been about finding fish by fishing for them. It's like hunting with a drone, where is the sport in that?

    • @jclisch66
      @jclisch66 9 місяців тому +1

      I don't think we can ban it because we don't like it. I think there needs to be studies done on it to see if it truly has negative effects on fisheries. As far as I know, there are no studies that show that. If I'm wrong on that point me in the direction on where I can find that information. In terms of tournament fishing were you at the top of the tournament standings before livescope now you've dropped to the bottom after your competitors started using it, or are you still competitive without it? (For the record I don't have it, it has no value where I fish 99% of the time)

      @@wesmclaughlin9369if I wanna go catch a meal what does that have to do with your tournament mentality? If the wanna ban it from tournaments fine, I do just fine without it. To ban it from a recreational fisherman is just stupid without evidence.

      Well, hunting with a drone involves killing the animal. You can release the fish to live another day!

    Why are you using Looping when you are filming your fishing videos lol…. Looping only films 5 minutes of you catching the fish only ! It shows you catching the fish until you stop and restart the camera . All the time ( maybe hrs ) are eliminated. Super easy to do .

    • @dansmidwestangling
      @dansmidwestangling  9 місяців тому

      There are multiple reasons, the biggest being I'd rather have more to work with for a finished product. A lot of nice B-roll comes from shots you really didn't plan on, and sometimes things happen that you didn't expect and they're caught on camera. It actually happens more than a guy might think, and it's those situations I'm glad I have it all on hand. Another reason is because I don't want to have to think about it while I'm recording, as it's another thing that can be screwed up. Yes looping would save a lot of time, but I just feel better knowing if something happened, I have it. I wasn't complaining, I was merely bringing up that if that's what people want to see I've got PLENTY lol.

      @@dansmidwestangling I made a video of 8 hrs of fishing one Time and made 1600 casts for 35 fish power fishing a spinner bait . Luckily they were all big fish . It took me FOREVER to edit that video of 1600 casts before understanding looping . Rick Clunn has done videos saying he made over 2000 casts power fishing. Dan I get your reasoning for how you do it .

    Looks like there is a bunch of Randys in the comments, maybe they see a different side. I think allot of people are actually stuck in the middle about it, like me. For tournament use i totally see it banned, for recreational i don't. I think you should read question 1 more than focusing on question 22... Question 1 is... well I'll let you do your homework...

      Tournaments are a private thing and have nothing to do with public fishing. The thought of banning all public use of something because of a private for profit sponsored event is next level mouth breathing ret@rded.

      You can also drive by docks trees and rockpiles with side imaging and if it's tuned correctly you can see if there's fish there or not and not even stop to cast. As I mentioned in the video, tournaments are one thing, it's up to the organization to determine its own rules. You don't ban it by law because guys aren't resourceful enough to compete with it.

My problem with this is non sportsmen (liberals and animal rights ) will dominate the polls and sportsmen donot have a chance in hell in competing against their liberal agenda to “cancel” fishing and hunting by their voting “their” agenda.

    I am near LaCrosse and fish the Mississippi all the time.
    I our area banning live scope will effect tourism.
    What I mean by that is there are alot of Pro Bass and some Walleye tournaments on Pools 7.8 and 9.
    MLF. Bassmaster. Opens. BLF. Ect.
    When the pros come to town they attract the almighty tourists dollar for fans wanting to meet the anglers they only see on TV and in magazines.
    Ban Livescope and good bye the tournament series coming to the area.
    I am not against banning of any kind.
    If you can afford it then good for you.
    I do not have one but someday would like one.
    A new Terrova trolling motor is next on my fishing wish list.
    My Helix fishfinders will do just fine for now...weird how we call them fishfinders and they don't find the fish for us?
    Ohh well drive safe and good fishing to ya.
