Thank God it's a limited edition of 1000, they are going to struggle to sell 100
OH MY GOD YOUR LEGEND HAD COMMENT ON SAM'TRAINS 🤯🤯
are there even 1000 old sods still alive who remember who the beatles were?
@@matthewhopson964 And have money to burn............
You know it's a bad item when Leokimvideo calls it bad
Feels like Hornby just made this for a quick cash grab
Hornby marketing manager: "Yippee, someone has bought one. Oh, it was Sam. $#@&."
🤣
There's easily enough Beatles fans in the world who will buy this. The sort who have every post 1970 album by Ringo and George!!!!
Hornby marketing manager:" nurse, fetch me my tablets please - the pink ones!"
I can't believe one of the trucks didn't have "ticket to ride" on it. At least it would have been vaguely relevant.
And I don't care!
That's the special super limited edition collectors release coming soon for a reasonable price of 99 pounds. 🤣
I think there is another set somewhere with that in it lol
The One After 9:09 - that was a Beatles train song. Or was it a bus…
Ticket to deride
I keep reading "The Beatles' Hits" as " The Beatle Shits". I suppose that it's quite fitting for this pack.
The model equivalent of Elvis’ Greatest Shits.
Glad I'm not the only one seeing that XD
I'm the same with Sam Strains.
I can’t unsee that now
Lmao
"Welcome back to the railway, God help us all!" You know it's gonna be a garbage train on that note 😂

It's not the train set that needs a certificate, it the buyer that needs to be certified. 🤔
How dare you mock my Michael Jackson toothbrush
It's not the Michael Jackson toothbrush you need to worry about. It's the Kiss branded condoms and the box set of Rammstein butt plugs in the shape of the band members that are in the post.
(Those are actually real products btw(

Nice pack here, a truly indispensable part of the British model railway scene. Hornby was quick in spotting this gap in the market, the serious collectors have been crying out for Beatles and Cola stock for years. To top it off, with the big couplings, Hornby have shown us this is an ultra up to date tooling. This really puts Rapido and Accurascale to shame. :)
azuma it,s sam here yet ?
This comment is gold
YES, IT is !

I'm holding out for the Pete Best Brake Van
The couplings always fail part way in the journey...
Just why when you could get the thomas brand back...
The official Beatle merchandise shop online has this in their listing. Hornby evidently as well. Probably Beatle management, or their shop management, simply have commissioned Hornby again to come up with some stuff. As per usual, quality and price are little matters for merc. So they can just recycle their oldest and cheapest tooling. The online shop seems to have many products listed of questionable quality. But that's typical for merc. Fans just buy it because they feel identified with it. Purely an emotional thing...
@@bobsemple07just imagine they could print by rereleasing Hornby Murdoch because Bachmann seem to refuse to make anyone not from the CGI era.

I bet Uncle Fredrickson could make a better Beatles train. Balancing cars with drum sets, speakers, guitars on stands, and a traveling stage would be far more fun than these shabby looking box vans!
With an Elvis lawnmower on the back. I know it would sell out. Maybe to avoid getting sued by Hornby we could go for a Spice Girls train. I think Sam could sell out a limited edition of 1001 units with some heavy promotion on all of our favourite channels. Or maybe a McCartney train with Wings, the Frog Song and other nonsense. I am sure trolling could revive the model train industry.
This would be something worth buying 😂
well ringo did narrorate TTTE so it makes sense that thomas is wearing a beatles livery
This, this is the only tangible link.
If anyone tries to claim Hornby is from Liverpool then they need to go do there homework.
@@groeacht8525- Some English homework needed too! (*Their). 😉
Would've been a better correlation if it was the normal thomas sculpt and not the crappy 0-4-0 one
@@AtheistOrphan not english thought
bro the 0-4-0 sculpt is more accurate than the E2 body shell. I have one and it's been good-ish.
I like how they used the baby e2 body to probably indicate Ringo’s narration of the first two seasons of Thomas 😂
They should have made a hopper wagon with "I am The Walrus" written on it.
Nice song references thrown in there Sam, well done!
The irony of the wording on the side - S'HITS
A classic case of failing to proofread your decals to make sure they don’t spell or look like something else.
Put tape over THE BEATLE
What's worse is the red text on the black wagon looks like The Beatle Shits (you can't not see it now)
Limited edition. Sam now owns 20% of the damn things that actually sold.
Hope Sam will give the set to a charity shop!
Honestly if Hornby's gonna make a band themed train pack. One thing they should consider is the train depicted in Queens "Breakthru" music video and having figures of the band on a special purpose flat wagon . At least that would be relevant and could be a rather fun quality product; if it was done properly. However I'm not sure if "effort" is in Hornby's vocabulary where band memorabilia is concerned. Though I admit their Eurostar Beatles set was pretty nice.
The Yellow Submarine Eurostar was novel when it came out, just like when Hornby made the one Coke train to go round the tree at Xmas, but they go too far with those themes afterwards, not realising the novelty wears off.
Had never thought about Eurostar being a submarine before, but I suppose it is, it goes under the sea.
Apparently the novelty is meant tk wear off. I have been told thst it is a "thing" in the usa thst EACH YEAR you buy this seaskns new Christmas train set.....bizare!
I think the packaging may be designed to resemble the sleeve of the band's Black Album (compilation).
Well spotted, that one went straight over my head
I had a really rough day at work today. And then I saw this - I am smiling and feel a lot better! Thank YOU so much!!!
Hornby managed to get a swear word in naughty naughty
Sam to this day i just find it hilarious that they still produce the clockwork thomas mold. Sometimes it a cheap easy way to get a thomas with a decent mechanism. Loved the video-
Bailey :)
Nicely done Sam. "I need a bloody medaI" I cried at that remark. I haven't had a decent laugh for ages! Keep up the great work. No ticket to ride required for this set. Nige
What's next, the Kraftwerk Trans Europe Express train pack?
I would rather buy that, at least there is a reference to a real train there.
I think Roco or Trix already make that, it's just a regular Trans Europe Express! Oddly, it's not so much of a complete rip off.
KLF last train to trancentral pack?, it's an old jouef model so Hornby should have the moulds somewhere, mibby include one of the Oxford ice-cream vans?

You absolutely deserve a medal for this, Sam. We all acknowledge your sacrifice.
I will say though, I will be getting the Beatles E2. Despite the stink I raised, I’ve been wanting an E2 for the longest time.
If I can’t find an umber one, I’ll get one of these and paint it BR black. It’s shocking how one of the blandest liveries is better than what Hornby is pumping out.
Cheers, Sam. I’ll see what I can do about that medal. 🏅
I need to see the timestamp for this!
@@DonaldTheScottishTwin57646 It would be 32 : 47, when he reaches the section on his industrials.
Edited to nullify the timestamp, as it only affected this video.
It's hardly the Stiff Tour 1978 train, is it. At least that actually existed.
Next from Hornby the Hard Days Night Train. Standard sleeper carriages and another incarnation of Flying Scotsman or Mallard (even though the train left from Marylebone and headed to Taunton)
Dear Sam,
Help me if you can, I'm feeling down!
Best, Pete.
But I do appreciate you being round.....etc
Haha enjoyed the review Sam! I'm a big Beatles fan, so I did pick this up, and I've bought all the previous Beatles vans and sets they've released. It's been a mixed bag for me. Some of the art for the album vans was thoughtfully and beautifully designed while some were rather uninspired. However, all the previous vans to have come out were at least printed well. For some reason this set seems generally to have poor printing on it, which is a shame. And yeah, I really don't know what they were thinking about the design of the engine. I don't mind the old toolings so much as long as the livery/design is good.
All that said, I must admit I still do like this set. While most of my collection are nice, detailed models, part of me just enjoys the sort of toy aspect of this. And I really like all these Beatles vans going around my layout.
Maybe if, with the Oxford rail brand, Hornby decide to do a Sabaton themed Boche Buster, I might buy one.
Sabaton have made some of my fave songs, No Bullets Fly probably being my fave.
The story behind it is nothing short of humanity at its best during the darkest of times
Back in the 60s the steam age Ringo actually worked on the Railways. I notice his hair dye matches the box colour.
Wait wait!! I’ve found a silver lining. It’s 1000% better than Bradford Deranged.
Ok, I know I let you down Sam. Probably my family as well. Indeed I’ve let myself down. But I wish to confess I’ve got that set and I’ve got the next one on order. There, I’ve exorcised that demon. No forgiveness sought or expected.
Thank you for taking one for the team, I feel your pain.
In 1964 their solicitor set the Beatles' merch/tat royalty cut at 10%. Paul, Ringo, Olivia Harrison and Yoko Ono each got 2.5% of your purchase price.
Sorry Sam, but... is it really necessary to make such a subjective, negative review? If you don't like this set, don't buy it. I will definitely not. But if someone likes this set, let them have fun with it. The model railway hobby is for everyone, isn't it?
He's a critic it's his job to be subjective
I've got one of those wagons, with metal couplings but best of all it says "Heinz Beans" on the side !
For 1975, it is fantastic, I will probably buy some more and 'form up' a train (gas powered of course !)
Awesome video Sam's trains my mom also likes the Beatles 😊
looking at those printed pictures on the locos, its seem to be John, Paul, George, and Spock
My best mate bought one of the wagons when he came to an exhibition with me and two other pals - I was a bit amused, but he said he liked it as he loves the Beatles but doesn't have a layout, and it would remind him of a great day out - so it went on his shelf in the living room - now he wants another to go with it. Need I say more?!?!?!!!
Hi Sam, I am 79 I do have this set and the Locomotive has gone straight back in the box ! As I only want the wagons ( not sold separately ) and I now have 16 Beatles wagons + the 2 Utility coaches that came with the Diesel Set. I ran this lot up my Club last night and quite a few photos were taken of them. It is a bit of fun and I get a great deal of satisfaction from my ‘O’ collection. Great Video & thanks, Ron 😊
Ron is your nhs check up due?
@@tonyrobinson362 Hi Tony, I have booked my NHS check up and I only got to wait 5 years for it ! It’s all a bit of Fun for our hobby and I still have quite a few Beatles Albums and I got £100 for just one of them. So I have Pre ordered this year’s Train Set ( only for the wagons ) Regards from Ron 🚂👍🚂😃🚂✔️🚂
I believe your sayings of "Excrement in model railway form" and "I've had bowel movements that have constituted better value for money than this" certainly apply here!😂
Lionel released a complete collection of Beatles themed cars & F series diesel locomotive years ago, a friend has the complete collection, including the yellow submarine on the flatcar.
I told a friend of mine who is not a railway enthusiast but is a major Beatles fan if he had heard of these models. Quite obviously he had not, but as a Beatles fan he did show an interest in these models. So I would say these models are not aimed at railway enthusiasts, but at Beatles fans who have a mild interest in railways.
As a Beatles fan and rail enthusiast I quite like the idea of having them on rolling stock but they are absolutely way too overpriced, so not bothering with getting any
My favourite product in this line that I saw in Fenwick once was the one based on the album "Beatles For Sale", a phrase which has some quite dark implications when printed on the side of a box wagon.
Just the tone in the “hello everybody” I knew what I was abt to watch! Hahaha
Awesome job working Beatles’s lyrics into this review, Sam 😁
Sam you legend, thanks so much for showing everyone what utter tat hornby are producing these days. Unfortunately alot of people are very much 'Blinded' by hornby and can be considered loyalists, so I hope this video reaches them!
Yeah, complete garbage. Except for the P2, the Turbomotive, the 2MT, the upcoming Flirt, Locomotion, the Black 5, and the new well-received TT range. Besides all those things people are buying, they don’t make stuff people want.
I think it reached them
@@genericyoutubeuser3828 Tbh excluding that stuff, we have been mostly getting tat like the beatles stuff and random re-releasings of old toolings from 20+ years ago. I get this is a catch up year, however its been a trend the past 4 years. I think you missed the point I was trying to make.
I really felt that sigh at the start there 😆
Very good with the "so much younger than today" comment haha. I bet I've missed loads of these Easter eggs!
One of The Beatles, Ringo Starr, was the narrator for the first two seasons of Thomas and friends. Also, over two weeks ago, country singer Toby Keith passed away
Hmm. This is true tat! If i were hornby, then I'd make some different wagons - especially a madness or a ha one - to give a bit of variety, not just the beatles - great review as always sam! Also one final thing, hornby really shouldn't have put the "beatle's hits" like that on the wagon,as the s of beatles and the hits looks slightly innapropriate 😅😂
'Slightly innappropriate'...!!😜
Haha. You made me chuckle, Sam. Thx. At least this train has been good for something.
That train the Beatles were actually on was pulled by a NBL class 22....over to you Dapol!!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣
My Elvis mower is going Great😂😅Thanks Sam Excellent video Mate.Regards Tony .👍😀🇦🇺
I am surprised Hornby haven't release Queens Miracle Express used in the music video on the late 80s Queen hit ''Breakthrough''.
Considering they have/had a GWR 28xx loco in their range, i too am surprised thats not been released before now
Since the three serving members of Queen own everything to do with it, it would be impossible for something like that to happen. Brian May and Roger Taylor are very protective of Queen , also anytime they embark on something new they always inform John Deacon who has said no on occasion to things and they haven't gone ahead with it.
@@ThomasJM it would also be to expensive since they had to use a real locomotive and then also put actuall work in it to make it "screen accurate"
and not having an unpaid intern to do the work with the design
I like it when he always says welcome back to the railway at the start of his videos
"Please, please help me" lol very good Sam!
I had no idea Hornby still had this mold, It's their first ever thomas model from the early 80's but repainted lol. Ringo did narrate thomas in the 80's so that could be the link.
'Ave a medal, lad... for doing the review...🎖️
If 'naff' was a model train, it would be this one...that loco is just plain 'avin a larf....
It's lucky there is no DCC...one could only imagine the sound effect going "love, love me do " as the train goes along.....🙂🙏🇳🇿
The fact that the pack is numbered suggests that it is aimed at collectors of Beatles memorabilia, not by train enthusiasts.
Hi Sam, I had to chuckle at the comment @ 3:09 "please, please, help me" . . . . 😄
They should have put the 0-4-0 diesel instead of the steam loco IMO it fits better.
Brilliant review well done Sam
Thank God for correctly placed apostrophes! It still don't help me though... I cannot unread "The Beatle Shits"! 😂
Good job Bachmann did not produce this tat. Would have looked just as shite with the same with a price tag of £200! 😂
Well done mukka. (I think someone on Hornby's "management" team has a Beatles fetish.)
Good timing as Paul McCartney's missing bass was announced as being returned last week!
Awesome video today Sam quick question when are you doing your live streams again
I've got a pair of joy division oven gloves, courtesy of half man half biscuit, I use it every day, sadly not dcc fitted!

I bet you've got a dodgy transformer too!
Don’t forget Time Flies By (When You’re The Driver Of A Train)🤣
Just watching the Beatles unboxing. Looks like the black car with the red roof says BEATLESHITS , as the apostrophe is so distorted. LOL.
At Ten years old I had the same wagons on a trainset I got for Christmas, That was 1976.
Hi Sam, I was in my local hobby store here in Australia not so long ago and there was a guy aged in his 60s and we spoke of our interest in 00 gauge rail and to my ASTONISHMENT, he was one of these Hornby Beatles railway collectors . He was looking forward to any new releases to add to his collection. I being of same age to him , was try not to laugh but I did then had to accept there is horses for courses. However I was relieved when he told me he lived on the other side of the country and Australia being a large place well. I was ok with that.
Metal wheels!! Someone at Hornby missed the opportunity of fitting plastic wheels to save costs there. That would have increased the profit margin 😆😆.
Stick in a cheap controller basic livery and a loop of track bang them out as cheap trainsets, maybe with some differential purpose,eg perminent way, fraight, passenger, commuter, mix and match and re instate a simple pricing structure i.e starter , railway expansion, mid range , super fine high detail
The Beatles did feature a train in their film ‘Hard Day’s Night’ down in Minehead but it was nothing like this train!
I think the joke behind this model is that it looks like an e2 like Thomas and the first narrator was Ringo star but that’s just my guess
Having the 0-4-0 E2 Thomas reskin with a Beatles livery is just a homage for classic Thomas
Believe they just heard something about som sort of beatlemania!
If they made a Rutles train set I might be interested
Perhaps Rapido could do one 🙂

The Joy Division Oven Gloves were actually an original design on oven gloves which Tesco Homewares sold from about 1980 that coincidentally had a design on them which was like the cover art from Closer. I was briefly amused at the time little thinking that it would lster be a thing of epic proportion.
Hornby also have a Progressive Rock Fan in the naming department. Although these are not over prices "memorabilia".
We have the King Crimson loco with the (Richard) R.Fripp Mining Company waggon.
Then the (Steven) S.Wilson Paper Mills loco.
From Marillion we have the (Steve) Hogarth Stone, (Steve) Rothery Industries, (Ian) Mosley Tarmacadam, (Mark) Kelly & Son Paper Mill and the (Pete) Trewavas Aggregates Ltd locos.
From Rush we have the (Neil) Peart Industries diesel loco.
Something I just realized, they reuse the Hornby Thomas chassis again. Around the 1980's (I think) Hornby made an 0-4-0 version of Thomas.
They did, a pretty awful and unconvincing thomas body on the standard 0-4-0 chassis used under the L&Y Smokey Joe ST, the Barclay diesel, the ‘Queen Mary’ tank loco and Percy. it lingered in the range as slightly cheaper than the 0-6-0 Thomas into the 90’s before disappearing for about 10-15years and came back in railroad and as the collectors club loco without the face as a freelance loco.
@@gc7820 was that in addition to the clockwork Thomas and the rest of the clockwork range in the 1990s?

That poor 0-4-0 Thomas tooling has seen the wars now. I'm actually quite surprised it's got a brass worm gear now as I know these modern 0-6-0 chassis have one but I guess it's nice to see it on the 0-4-0n just means it'll need to be lubricated more to avoid wear.
It definitely went down hill once they made that Beatles Eurostar lol

A Queen train pack could be good. Using GWR 3822 with a Dolphin Flatbed could make the Miricale Express from the Breakthru music video
It's not just Hornby but everywhere these days. This is what happens when meetings stop becoming a good alternative to work and become an end in their own right. The self important attendees convinced themselves that it was a good idea and nobody had the courage to say 'er is this any good?'
A long time ago now, there was a 'special' train promoted by a newspaper called the 'Andy Capp Special' hauled by a hideously painted white(?) poor old LMS/Midland Compound.
