    Great video. Nice review. Glad you and your family had an enjoyable vacation in NY. My eye specialist is in NY, so when I went down for my last appointment, my sister and I went to the Frick Museum. I got yelled at by one of the security guards for leaning in and looking too close at one of the paintings. Luckily, we had been all through the exhibit and I was able to look closely at all the other paintings without a word from any of the other security people. The assistive technology available is really amazing. I just wish that it wasn’t so expensive. Thanks for sharing your experience.

      If I was moving from one exhibit to another then I would take it off and hang it around my neck. The iris vision has a neck strap attached. However, sometimes I would simply raise the goggles up to my four head and wear them like that. Very similar to a pair of sunglasses.

      The Blind Life Hey Sam, that is so cool! I have never used this device, but I have watched your videos about it and it seems awesome! Thanks for the great video and demonstration

    I like what you said about using the assistive technology and tools you have now rather than waiting for something to improve. I mean if we all did that then none of us would go visit anywhere.

    • @theblindlife
      @theblindlife  5 років тому

      Yes, I hear that all the time, people want to wait to see what’s coming around the corner. Like you said though, if we all sat around waiting then we would never do anything.

    I'm so glad you got to enjoy my home town. The natural history museum was my favorite growing up. I would like to get back and visit the 9/11 memorial, as it hadn't been built the last time I was there. Sounds like a fun trip, enhanced by techt.

    Awesome video! New York City is such a great place to visit. I need to remember to take advantage of any assistive technology that’s available. We went to a couple of museums on our vacation this summer and as you said there is a lot of low lights and spotlights going on in these museums. Fortunately I had friends to act as sighted guides and read information to me but it also caused a lot of eye fatigue.

    Awesome! Glad you got to experience the fun of my hometown! One of these days, I want to bring Jacob there to see where I grew up and meet my extended family. It’ll be something else to experience NYC as a blind person. The last time I was there was nearly 20 years ago, and I wasn’t blind then. It would be something to see how the city measures up to other places I’ve been as a blind person.

    Sam - great videos and content. Have you compared the IrisVision glasses with the Patriot ViewPoint? Curious as to your thoughts on the differences.

    • @theblindlife
      @theblindlife  5 років тому

      Well, since the hardware is exactly the same, you’re basically looking at software features and price. As far as features, each one has things I like over the other one so it’s a tough decision.

    Hi Sam, first of all....thanks for YOUR videos which are so helpful. I want to know if you can describe your vision problem...when you look at someone or something, is the central area blurred? And any other details you might consider important. Thanks

    What is the price of these glasses and will they be available in India?

    • @theblindlife

      I am afraid I don’t know if it is available and in India and the price. I would recommend contacting the company for that information.

    You said you used the device to get your bearings and figure out which direction to go then you took it off. Why not just leave the device on and walk around that way?

    • @ikylilgrl
      @ikylilgrl 5 років тому

      It's a bit dangerous to do that. When you're wearing the device you lose depth perception and what's in your periphery

    • @thejword
      @thejword 5 років тому

      Rachel S Thanks Rachel. I am surprised to hear that. I thought the device had a wide camera angle and that you could see everything you would normally see except you have the ability to zoom in, change contrast, etc. I am surprised to hear that it limits your vision. I wish there was a way to Record a video showing exactly what a user would see

    • @ikylilgrl
      @ikylilgrl 5 років тому

      Its basically like digital binoculars, that you can adjust settings on. Imagine trying to walk around looking through binoculars, it would be like that.

    • @theblindlife

      It does have a pretty wide field of you but still obscure your peripheral vision. If I am in familiar location, such as my house, then I can walk around with it. But would it try it too much in unfamiliar situations. The other thing is, as Rachel said, it messes up your depth perception. The image seems closer than it really is. So you end up bumping into doorways and things like that. In two of my iris vision videos I show what the user sees. You can check those out to get a better idea.

    My child is congenital disease of maculopathy can't see anything is this device can help to see nd who can get it from i am from Pakistan please guide me

    • @theblindlife
      @theblindlife  5 років тому

      This device is designed for those with low vision. magnifies the image so you need to be able to see a little bit in order for it to work. If the user does not have any vision then this device will not help them.
