Giant Goulburn River Trout

Went down to the Goulburn river for my first session spinning for trout since trout oepning. Ended up being a fantastic session with multiple trout brought to hand with a mix of wild fish and the recently stocked stonker trout.

A great session Hawksey. A good mix of strong stockers and wild trout. Was in the same area on opening weekend, was busier than Bourke Street, plenty of stokers caught and a few platypus sighted too. Keep up the great vids.

Thanks mate, no doubt it was packed on opening weekend. I ended up working and slipping out for a short stream session in the morning but probably wouldn't have gone to the Goulburn even if I had the weekend off

Thanks mate, I run braid with a leader for 99% of the fishing I do. In this vid I'm using pe 0.8 toray braid and a 6lb fluorocarbon leader tied on with an fg knot

Might be a stupid question, but how can you tell between stocked and wild trout?

These ones were pretty easy to tell since they had recently stocked some fish that were much larger than the vast majority of fish in the river. Usually the main sign its a stocked fish is by the worn down tail and fins

Ha ha, no sport in catch that ex brood stock bud, but that wild brown was the bomb. Go the Maggie's, actually i dont support those tossers, just the birds; that system must be real healthy to have so many platypus hey.

I wouldn't look down on the stonkers too much, they fight well and eat lures. Hopefully good numbers are able to last the season again this year. I believe the platypus numbers here are some of the highest in the state, I can't recall a trip there where I haven't seen one
