I think these boxes are best suited to people who don't have art supplies and want to try out a variety of materials. Not sure how this got edited...but my suggestion was that they created 2 levels of boxes. One for the newbies-their existing version, and one with unusual and more difficult to source items for experienced artists looking for items they likely don't have in their toolbox of supplies.
I think about cancelling every now and again. A couple of times I have but I always end up re-subscribing and buying any boxes I misses. I can’t help it, I’m addicted. I just have to face the fact Scrawlrbox is with me for good.
We all get to a place where we justify or not having so much supplies, mine was I cancelled after a year, and then went back to boxes I hadn’t really bothered with

Perhaps create a few 'levels' of boxes? Level 1 for newbies with very few supplies who want to try out different standard supplies like colored pencils, basic art papers, basic markers, etc. without a huge investment into a single material and a Level 2 for those with a lot of the standard materials who want to try more unusual materials -boutique watercolors, new types of papers, etc. Really go wild and source interesting items that would help showcase smaller companies. It would obviously be more expensive, but I think you would find a lot of people who would find that appealing.
I used to love art subscribtion boxes but now that I'm further along in my art journey they aren't as thrilling anymore. I know what I like and I know what I want to use so getting somehitng completly out of left field is kind of a bummer bc I could have spent my money better. Also I have a huge collection of art supplies already at home so getting repeats in subscription boxes is not uncommon. Curretly I am subscribed to a subscription box but it's more a of curated experience. I know that each box will contain Gouache, Brushes, Paper, a print and a tutorial. I knew that when I ordered the boxes. Personally, I think it's much more fun than completly random stuff.
Having a puppy is like having a toddler 😁 You will be busy for a while 😊 Dogs are such good Family members❤️ I was personally a bit underwhelmed with this box because I’m not so interested in colour pencils. I already have two sets of 72 (derwent artists and watercolours) which really fill all my needs for pencils. My 11 year old was very happy because she will get them once I have finished trying them out 😊 I do love the art of the featured artist, her squiggly style is similar to some stuff I did in art school years ago (and got told of for ) Also I am looking forward to trying out the toned paper 😊 I really like that they added that one. I have only had a subscribtion since #99, but bought a bunch of boxes before that, so I have many that I haven’t really tried out yet. Turns out it is a massive project to work through them all in the way I want to do 😏 I am thinking of cancelling my subscribtion for now and restart when gardening season is over. But what if the next one is awesome, then I will buy it anyway
Hullo Emily, I wish subscription boxes were a thing when I was learning about art supplies! I believe there are better ways to spend your money, especially if you do not have a surplus of funds! I feel it is always better to pick supplies you know, but what if you do not know about what kinds of supplies you like are?? You can always find good brands at cheaper prices if you just look around and sometimes buy used! I once got a "used" box of pencils. These pencils were less than half priced over new but they had only used 10 pencils and they had maybe been sharpened twice? SO I got a $145.00 pencil set for $50.00! I believe the ScrawlrBox offers a UA-cam Artist a topic for videos! If you have plenty of ideas and feel like doing them, you got no worries! I look forward to your videos and your videos going forward without Scrawlrbox! (You can always do the prompt from Scrawlrbox with your own supplies) Maybe this is the time for you to get some progress on your prompt book ? I have always loved your animal doodle art pieces! You might try some sketchy doodle pieces? I know working on toned papers can be a short-cut to mid tones, You should get a grey or Tan sketchbook. Sarah Burns does a lot of gouache paintings on those papers and she is close to you in Scotland! Well I say close, but I am saying closer than Us in the States or me in California! Stay safe and enjoy bringing up your Pup!
Good luck with puppy! I think maybe take a break from the box, shop your stash or challenge yourself to a new medium within a budget instead. So many options!
I don't really bother with subscriber boxes because I just don't need that many supplies coming in the mail constantly and they start to pile up to the point where you have all these things that you do not use and then you have to figure out what to do with them. I understand how it can be a fun concept though just isn't practical for me.
I’ve cancelled the sub and I’m getting my own supplies - seem to get more for the money. It’s great for inspiration and for trying new art supplies but now seems expensive for what you get - this makes me sad x
Yeah, actually that is more expensive than buying those items at my local art shop would have cost. The pencils are 1.68 each open stock, the blender pen would be about 7.00, that pencil sharpener is only a couple bucks, and you can buy samples of the paper you want, A5 size, for a few bucks (a variety pack of 20 sheets that you can pick out and they pop in a bag for you).
I've subscribed for several years & Still enjoy the buzz of opening a new box. I don't feel we're getting as much value in the boxes these days though. I'm not a fan of pencils, so was disappointed this month (although I do see why polychromos have such a great reputation). I will miss your box reviews, but totally get your reservations about continuing to subscribe.

I just got two boxes of Sketchbox that they had on an incredible sale of $10 a box for the basic boxes. I think they wanted to get rid of old stock.

Depending on the price I’d buy it from your or swap for junes upcrate, the one with the parallel pen. I’m interested in the scribble style
