She is a volunteer and ambassador for several charities including ‪@thestrokeassociation‬ UK. In this video she recorded on her own, she talks about forgetting her stroke anniversary and how she is moving on after a traumatic experience.

Hello Sarah - my name is Andrew Scott (your namesake). I am an Australian (secondary) school psychology teacher and have been showing your original (2010) video paired with your most recent update to complement course material on both aphasia and neuroplasticity for the last 10 years - to well over 1,000 (Australian) students. You have a large following in the Australian class room and thus I would like to thank you and your mother for sharing your plight and on a personal level, it has been great to observe your positive outlook on life and your consequential evolution through your annual videos. On behalf of literally thousands of Australian students and hundreds of teachers - I salute you!

Sarah, I'm a high-school psychology teacher in Maryland, near Washington D.C. and I've been following your videos since your first one. I teach about aphasia when we focus on the brain, and you've been very instrumental in helping students to understand what you've gone through since your stroke. I want to thank you for continuing to post videos annually, it really is positive for students to see your recovery since having such a young brain incident. I for one am very proud of you and your fiance is a very lucky guy. Enjoy your cats! Hope to see you again. Keep on inspiring!!

    Dear Sarah,
I’m very glad that you see how you evolved over the last 13-14 years and I am very impressed. I had a serious head injury after a shooting incident 4 years ago at the age of 46 which affected my speech. I was diagnosed with apraxia because I battle to say words properly (or at all depending on the complexity of the word or my level of tiredness) but it’s not as bad as it used to be. I think I also have aphasia because often (especially when I am tired) I can't remember words for things and can’t remember what I was going to say but I don’t really struggle to read at the moment. I can do a 2 min talk without slipping up (maybe), but when I saw you speak flawlessly for 17 mins I was very impressed. And you spoke off the cuff which is even more impressive!
I found your channel after being released from the hospital when I was searching for what causes tiredness in victims that had serious head trauma - especially people that have aphasia and apraxia - because I was seriously extremely fatigued every minute of the day for two years after the incident. Speaking to doctors didn’t do much apart from lots of doses of vitamin B. Exercising made me fitter but affected my speech and my energy during the day. It’s like having a 40% battery limitation and nothing else. If you use 20% for exercise you have 20% for the rest of the day. So, I exercised on the weekend and used my energy for my work during the week. Monday was hell because I had nothing in the tank! I am an academic and interested in what I do so I was not wishing for the weekend to come sooner before the injury, but after I was slogging through work in the first two years waiting for the weekend was excruciating. I was lucky that my university was so understanding. Two months ago (4 years after the incident) I noticed my energy levels were coming back to normal and I am feeling more enthusiastic about my work and life outside. It took four years to feel this way but you can’t explain it to anyone who’s not experienced it. We all feel tired or fatigued sometimes but it’s an experience to have trouble breathing in life. I felt like I was drowning in the needs of daily life at work and at home and getting more sleep (or anything else) did not solve the problem. I have a lot to make up for the last four years - personal goals and things that I just let slip by.
Anyway, I found your channel and it documented your progress with time. Your videos were/are an inspiration and it’s great to see people with head injuries succeeding.
Congratulations on your engagement, and I wish you all success in your future. I look forward to seeing the next video.
    Kind regards,
    Manuel

Dear Sarah, please keep making these videos. I have used them training paramedics here in Germany, showing them what Aphasia is, since your first or maybe second video. By now I can also show them the journey of recovery you have been on - something paramedics rarely see in their work. I am 100 percent sure that patients of my students have profitted from them knowing what you have teached them! Great to see you are doing well! All the best from Germany!

Perhaps in your next video, it would be great to learn about some of the particular therapies that seemed to work best for you (I know each person is different) and what some of the continued challenges are with respect to reading (with and without doing it out loud), speaking, writing, etc. Again, thank you for all that you've done so far. One of my daughters, when 6 or so counted fluently, but resolutely skipped "8" , in either direction:) . The start of this video reminded me of that time decades ago when we wondered if we should be worried, or jhst let it go and see how she gets on. (Spoiler alert, she graduated last year). In the meantime, I had a stroke a couple of years ago, and often wonder if pauses in my speech are aphasia, or me just biting my tongue (I often can't be bothered to answer sometimes, and sometimes wonder if my answers may be unacceptable).
Don't overthink stuff, you're a lovely and competent person, live in the moment, and look after those cats👍👍
(edit having watched the rest of the video, you should do more if you want to, but if you don't, please do leave the videos already made as viewable uploads. I'm sure that they will show people who might be despairing that recovery is possible . I came across your channel while digging through "knowing better"'s back catalogue just now. Oddly enough I found his channel while in hospital recovering from my SAH , weird that it took me this long to see the video that he made on aphasia, which pointed me to your channel🤷)

Don't worry about not updating sooner. You owe us nothing!
Congrats on the great progress. You're also looking absolutely beautiful.
I feel such empathy for you because I have severe migraines that can strike me down at any time in a way that looks like a stroke. I fall down, I can't open my eyes due to the light sensitivity, and I have total aphasia for several minutes. It's scary.

We were shown your videos on our Physiotherapy course at uni, with respect to aphasia. I work with patients who have had stroke/neurosurgical issues. It is fantastic to see your improvement from one of your first videos they showed us, would love to follow your journey longer term! You should be proud 🙂

It takes a while for something to feel normal. Especially when something happens where you lose an ability…or two, or three lol.
Most day now (after my motorcycle accident 15 years ago) I just get up and go through my day without any thought about how I used to do anything. (I am a paraplegic) my disability was all physical and I can understand how much harder it is to get used to communicating with people after something like a stroke. When you lose the ability to walk you are still you.. but communication is much more important then being able to walk.

Thank you for watching and for leaving a comment. You seem
like you have a positive attitude which is good, even when you’ve had a life changing experience. Any disability is hard, but you’re right that it’s a blessing if you can still communicate.
