This is a *very* important consideration, and it's good that Apple assign a new IMEI. 👍 As mentioned in my own comment I used to own an iPhone XR - Bought secondhand from a local pawnbrokers. Worked perfectly fine with my SIM when I put it in, but as I only ever used it on wifi it lived on airplane mode and never touched the cellular network. 📶 Two years later, and I sell it on eBay. The buyer found that it would not activate cellular, and was getting messages to the effect of „SIM not allowed“ and „Barred device“. I accepted their return and took it back to the pawnbroker to investigate - It turned out the previous owner had knowingly defaulted on their cellular carrier account, and the carrier had blocked the phone for non-payment. Because I never used it on cellular, it took 18 months for this to come to light. 😲 On the bright side; The pawnbroker - In line with the traditions of their business - Accepted return of the device for the original purchase price and presumably took the previous owner to the cleaners over it...But that certainly got me off the idea of ever paying top dollar for secondhand phones! 😨

I used to work for a Foxconn affiliate and they basically used all new parts for everything, but the motherboard. There are a few different device assembly and disassembly lines that take the phone all the way apart, do extensive testing of the motherboards by plugging them into devices that check that everything is still working, the motherboard gets flashed with new information, like the IMEI and all of the parts are serialized to the device and assembled. They use all of the same equipment that the normal assembly uses. They may refurbish some of the other parts, but at the end of the day, these are basically new phones.

When I decided to buy an iPhone 13 Mini, I first did it through the Apple refurb page. At first the only odd thing I noticed was that the gap between the screen and the top bezel was a little wider than usual, allowing dust to enter, but nothing I couldn't remove manually with the help of something thin. The real problem came about a week later, when all mobile data functionality stopped working regardless of which SIM I was using. I took it to an Apple Store and they confirmed that the antenna was malfunctioning. The funny thing is that they couldn't exchange it for me there, because refurbs are web-only and therefore returns can only be made from there. Anyway, I returned it without any problems and simply bought a new one on Amazon. The new one has a perfectly sealed screen, so yes, that wasn't normal either. I suspect the antenna was the component that was originally malfunctioning on the original refurbished phone, and the technician just failed to repair it properly. Well, I never fell in love with Apple's devices, due to the locked down nature of their products. You should inspect the board as well. Jesa Jones from iPad rehab gets lots of apple refurbished devices that have really bad liquid damage. They’re often “fixed” really poorly and will eventually fail. This is because the refurbishment process is outsourced to the lowest bidder in China. Apple does visually inspect these devices really carefully, but only the outside. All the terrible board repairs aren’t visible.
I know this is most definitely just bad luck, but I ordered a refurbished iPhone 12 Pro from Apple at the beginning of the year and had to return it just a few days after because it started bootlooping all of the sudden. I contacted Apple support and they sent me a replacement phone, but that one didn’t seem to be refurbished as the battery was at 93% (dropped to 89% just a few days later💀) and the frame had scratches around the lightning port. I returned this phone as well and thankfully got my money back. I’ve just been very unlucky but I won’t buy refurbished again. I safed all of my money to buy a brand new iPhone 13 Mini a couple of months later and this one is working flawlessly. I simply cannot trust refurbished phones anymore. I’ve had too many bad experiences with them. The issues with the 12 Pro I ordered were the icing on the cake…
@@DeerJerky it really was :( But I’m actually kinda happy it turned out this way because otherwise I wouldn’t have my 13 Mini now so it’s all good in the end haha
Louis Rossman has documented cases about refurb MacBooks having water damaged boards, etc. I think there's still some room for error, but I also think that refurb can be a good deal and better than some random eBay sellers. May want to pop the cover and inspect your boards if ordering refurb MacBooks though. There's also some accusations about Apple maintaining sweatshop like conditions for the companies they subcontract to for repair and refurb.
Buying a new iPhone gets you a 2 year warranty in my country whereas buying a used/refurbished one only gets you 1 year. Only that tends me to buy a new one. Besides, only the case and the battery itself are getting replaced so the speakers or the microphone *could* be worse. So the additional 200€ for a new one seems fair to me.
My refurbished iPhone bricked itself ~10 minutes after leaving the store. Went back and got it replaced for free with a brand new one That incident did make me question the quality
Which only proves Apple refurbs are brand new phones. If it was truly refurbished phone a technician or technicians would play with it a bit. Quality control on Chinese production line is non existing so your phone was brand new but defective.
Many, many years ago I had a faulty iPhone 4 (sticky home button) which I took back to Apple on like the 350th day of the 365 day warranty and they said (at that time anyway) that whenever you get a replacement phone through the warranty that late in the cycle it would a "certified refurbished" similar to what they sell nowadays, the guy said that everything is a new part except the motherboard. I think things like fingerprints on the internals and overtightened screws happen on new phones too, Friday afternoon jobs are the worst 😂
I bought my 12 pro refurbished through eBay. First one I got had the “display message” for a screen replacement. Bluetooth didn’t work but I sent it back and the new one I got works fine. Paid $500 for a 12 Pro 256gb. The new one doesn’t have a display message so I’m pretty happy.
It is common to have rework stations on PCB manufacturing lines where assemblers modify boards that have issues. So they likely also do the same wherever they refurbish products.
I bought a refurbished M2 Mac mini last week for saving 120 US $, and literally, i found nothing to complain about. No scratches, no fingerprints, absolutely nothing. It's all new and even smells very good 😂❤... big love Apple

I've heard there are some issues with this device, but I need my phone to ring, not get a voicemail notification after complete silence. And no my settings are all set lol. Thanks again for a great video =]
This was an excellent video with good information. Apple is one of three manufacturers that I would buy a refurbished product from. The other two are Bose and Sonos. The three companies are the only ones that I am aware of that provide the same warranty as if it were new (one full year parts and labor, or even replace). If you buy a refurbished device from one of the big box stores or any retailer, you will most likely get a warranty that's from 30 to 90 days, and there is no guaranty that any replacement parts or components are OEM certified. Also, these retailers often use third party marketers, that most people never heard of. The parts may be generic. There may be other manufacturers that I'm not aware of that would offer one year warranty. Always do your due diligence before making your purchase. Having been in Consumer Electronics since 1980, I know what I am talking about. A couple of tips:If your Apple device needs service (new battery, screen, etc.), only take it to an Apple store or Apple authorized service center. They are the only ones that use certified Apple parts and components. If you do use an authorized service center, never leave your device over night. If they insist that you have to, then leave and take it to an Apple store and have them service it. (Apple is less likely to go out of business).
I was looking on the refurbished for a MacBook Air Two big questions, that I have: 1. Did the battery got replaced and has 100% capacity? 2. Could you get AppleCare+ on refurbished devices? That's the biggest questions in my head. Love your videos, keep going 🤝🏼🫶🏼 Greetings from Germany Sincerely. Your lovely C4
Correct me if i'm wrong, but I don't think that Apple does component level repair. I'm sure they have a proper tester, and they replace faulty module(s) based on the testresults.
I got myself a M1 iPad Pro refurbished and it's truly amazing. Especially that there is no way that I could afford a brand new one. I have it for like a year and there are no issues
I looked at getting one prior to buying my 15PM, and I am also in Canada. They only had 13PM with either the 512 or 1tb. For the cost, it was the exact same as buying a 15PM brand new, mind you my 15PM is 256. From my POV, unless you really want more storage but you are fixed to a specific budget, you are better off buying new than apple refurb. It's just hard to stomach paying 1900 when that's how much a brand new 15PM base model is.
You paid more for your refurbished 512GB iPhone 12 Pro than I did for my 1TB iPhone 13 Pro Max. Then again I did get it trough my mobile provider at the beginning of this year and only got this one because they didn't have any 1TB iPhone 14 Pro Max models in stock. Still good to know that there aren't any sneaky strings attached when buying Apple Refurbished though...

The issues with the 12 Pro I ordered were the icing on the cake…
yikes, that's some bad luck
@@DeerJerky it really was :(
But I’m actually kinda happy it turned out this way because otherwise I wouldn’t have my 13 Mini now so it’s all good in the end haha
@@Nexus7_ haha
What about the battery health..? It’s one of the most important thing..
Weird, this box still has a plastic wrap around it, whilst the normal iPhone boxes have had pull strips since 2020 (iPhone 12 gen.).
Nope, starting with 13 the box no longer has plastic
@@PradiptaGitayaOh yeah you’re right. My bad. Still weird tho
But its sooo expensive like 980 $ for an iphone 12 pro but you can get a 14 pro for 1000$ ???wtf

But was it fully functional? I mean if it has mineral deposits from the water but still is 100% functional I wouldn’t necessarily mind.
1:17 at that point just buy the 16 pro already 😑
I would check the MB as well for possible repair done to it
I applaud you for fixing your old videos with links in the comments
I got my MacBook Pro refurbished and if I didn’t know any better, I’d swear it was brand new.
The rock in Touch ID man that caught me off guard 😂😂
Does apple also give each refurbed phone a new battery?
Great video. Question, what is the best screen cleaning spray I can buy for my iPhone and iPad?
Who let Tim Cook 💀💀
Buying a new iPhone gets you a 2 year warranty in my country whereas buying a used/refurbished one only gets you 1 year. Only that tends me to buy a new one. Besides, only the case and the battery itself are getting replaced so the speakers or the microphone *could* be worse. So the additional 200€ for a new one seems fair to me.
Damn, I wish we had certified refurbished iPhones here in Australia
I think they ship it to you, FOR FREE!
My refurbished iPhone bricked itself ~10 minutes after leaving the store. Went back and got it replaced for free with a brand new one
That incident did make me question the quality
Which only proves Apple refurbs are brand new phones. If it was truly refurbished phone a technician or technicians would play with it a bit. Quality control on Chinese production line is non existing so your phone was brand new but defective.
The iPhone makers will be tensed while watching your videos 😅
I got one and would choose Apple’s refurbs than any one else. Brand new battery and 1 year warranty. The ones I bought still functions to this day.
when did you get it?
2020 and I got an iPad Air 2. Both still running well. @@verycoolzperson

The small clip of Tim Cook LOL about the charger made my day :D

I was waiting for a refurbished sticker hidden somewhere in there.
The new one doesn’t have a display message so I’m pretty happy.

chinese children dont leave fingerprints but american adults do
It is common to have rework stations on PCB manufacturing lines where assemblers modify boards that have issues.
Nice video love the little bits of meme's in the video.
The Dwayne Johnson meme got me😂
Thanks! Just returned an amazon "premier renewed" iPhone 13 Pro that was scratched up, dirty from its previous case and had battery health of 90%... with amazon I've heard it's hit or miss. Obviously I got a POS lol. I just ordered an Apple refurb iPhone 13 Pro... I hope it's my old one that I traded in for a 15 Pro Max lol. Thanks to this video and a few Apple employee comments I'm super stoked. Oh and I sold my iPhone 15 Pro Max because it was buggy af and would ring whenever it felt like it...
Your PRG on the mat reminds me very much of the PRG rental company lol
Are they waterproof?
Couldn’t help but notice what seems to be a flipper zero on the left! NICE!
Am going to buy an iPhone refurbished in first time ,any advice is it safe and good quality?

I was looking on the refurbished for a MacBook Air
Two big questions, that I have:
1. Did the battery got replaced and has 100% capacity?
2. Could you get AppleCare+ on refurbished devices?
That's the biggest questions in my head.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but I don't think that Apple does component level repair. I'm sure they have a proper tester, and they replace faulty module(s) based on the testresults.
hi i am a big fan. Is there a video of the ''must have'' equipment to work on iphones? thanks

I got myself a M1 iPad Pro refurbished and it's truly amazing. Especially that there is no way that I could afford a brand new one. I have it for like a year and there are no issues
Good editing! 😊
The Way The Rock Popped Up 4:01
Hi @phoneRepairGuru do you fix android phones or just iOS ??
Those scratches are unacceptable
You paid more for your refurbished 512GB iPhone 12 Pro than I did for my 1TB iPhone 13 Pro Max. Then again I did get it trough my mobile provider at the beginning of this year and only got this one because they didn't have any 1TB iPhone 14 Pro Max models in stock. Still good to know that there aren't any sneaky strings attached when buying Apple Refurbished though...
That dirty tooth brush reminds me of the one I use to clean my motorcycle chain...
