@Strider Xanthos Yes. Dr. Cain created the Reploids by referring to X's design, and the biblical reference goes to show that in a way, Dr. Cain killed his home town Abel City due to all the damages caused by the Mavericks and Sigma, the first Reploid he created. If I'm right, the anime "The Day of Sigma" (and the game Maverick Hunter X) is the first time the city is ever referenced as Abel City, so it is a relatively recent addition to the lore. The city is pretty much ground zero of Sigma-virus created Mavericks, exactly because the Hunters operate there. (I'm a bit too intense about the lore :P)
@@BoosterGoose It's also a lesser known fact, but Dr. Cain is not a robot scientist. He is an archeologist. He basically fumbled his way into creating Reploids based off X's design.
This story feels like a bunch of Japanese writers trying to imitate an MCU movie. Why not have Marvel comic book writers write the plot for this if they're going for Avengers plus Capcom characters?
@Strider Xanthos Really? The awkward pauses, grunting, and characters nodding at each other is a common problem in games with Japanese writers (mostly cause it doesn't translate well to English without feeling off) The emphasis on Marvel might have been to ride the hype of the MCU, hence the infinity stones EDIT: 45:00 Max explains it
They could not since Mark Gatha (X from X8, Command Mission and Maverick Hunter X) is retired and is a Vancouver VA, while this game was recorded on California (that's the same reason why Zero was recast from Lucas Gilberston to Johnny Yong Bosch)
"I think when he's speaking, Mega Man X's voice sounds quite good. But in combat? He sounds a bit too much like Dan." "But in combat?" So he doesn't sound like X in the part of the game most people are going to play? Damn.
I'm still in disbelief that they bring back X's voice actor from Maverick Hunter X and X8. He became the best X in the series by far and did a great job at characterizing him. Hell, he is even in the mobile game. The direction in voice acting in this game just doesn't make any sense.
And that's what's so ironic. Like Max said, had this come out 6-7 months later between Infinity War & Endgame and at around the same time Captain Marvel was coming out, this game would have been much more relevant. And maybe those 6-7 months would've given them a little more time to add on some more polish to the game.

At least that problem wouldn't exist now, given that Marvel owns all their properties again
Money. They did it mainly for clout without trying to put in the effort to EARN the clout. Most of the games Marvel worked on and licensed their characters to before MvC:I were mobile games. They just commissioned it and hoped for the best and that’s why we got Hershey’s gameplay in a shit package.
The 2 parts I liked was Ultimate Armor X getting the final attack on the final boss because (this was before Mega Man 11 and the revitalization of Mega Man) it was one of the coolest things that has happened for a Mega Man character so far and Dante being worthy of the soul stone because I thought it was a pretty cool way to incorporate the lore of DMC and Marvel.
I loved the idea of being able to play Ultron Sigma(and overpowered version) by choosing ultron and sigma and choosing an extra option to fuse them. I know that's not how they would do it even if they did but making the boss actually playable, and removing your assist in return would be interesting as a casual player
i think one of the reasons this story sucked so much is because none of the capcom characters were important whatsoever. every time we see a capcom character theyre just there to be a marvel character's tag out, or to give a quip and then say nothing else of importance for the rest of the game. even ultron sigma is just ultron that happens to be infected with the sigma virus
Sad thing is this game is what made my sister really appreciate MegaMan X. She's beaten 1, 2, and 4. As sad as this game is, it kind of has a special place in my heart.
16:53 THAT. That right there is the problem with these cutscenes. Cap gets Chris's attention, he turns to look, and there's, like, two or three seconds of Chris just *standing there* doing nothing until the robot shows up and they do the "I'll take that as a yes" gag. Every goddamn cutscene in this story is filled with these long, awkward pauses that make it feel like every character forgot their lines and missed their cues. You can practically see the stage director frantically gesturing for the robot to jump in already. The only reason I can think of that it's like this is that they had to pad it out for time, which is especially stupid since the whole thing, as Max pointed out, feels like you missed the start of it.
The wasted potential. The ugly as sin designs, the Marvel side just being every character without any unique or cool powers, just super strength and guns, the awful "must push brand recognition" name dropping dialogue, bringing back characters like Arthur and Spencer(my arm is my wife, so many jokes lol) while they dropped some of the main characters people love. It's actually incredible this was released like this. Whoever is in charge of what characters are allowed to be used in games at Marvel needs to be fired, they consistently choose all the most boring generic characters, even to this day, look at the Avengers game, the first DLC is the only Young Avenger without powers... Like, what?
The character designs were ok, but the lighting engine and semi-realism used in Infinite doesn't do any of the cast any favors (i.e. why Dante looks like he's on day 3 of a sleepless cocaine binge.)
Max: "Universes and stages colliding is a really cool idea!" *Can't believe Playstation Allstars Battle Royale did this idea not only first but BETTER*

For me personally MVCI is just... So much wasted potential. The gameplay is amazing. The idea to unite Ultron and Sigma is genius! And yet here we are... Still (not anymore) waiting for Simon Blackquill...
@laz kar I think it was leaked a long time ago that Simon Blackquill was supposed to be a dlc character MVCI is pretty much dead now, and it's sad. Edit: Oh, and imagine stunning Thanos or Dormammu with Simon's trademark "SILENCE!"...

@@staticshock4239 Who knows. All I know is this is not a creative driven product. Power Rangers battle for the grid looks better than this. It's so ugly and awkward.
This was the time when Capcom didn't know what the hell they were doing with their properties anymore. MegaMan was dead in año iterations, Tekken was doing bad ever since tag, Residente Evil was going downhill without brakes and the only doing kind of good was Monster Hunter Generations wich was a 3ds Game. World and RE7 was the start of them getting their shit together.
Cable Except you can find out basically the whole story- Matt McMuscles did a Wha Happun on it (Where Max actually showed up) that explains that this game was “Cheap as shit” and Marvel was an absolute nightmare to work with.
I have to rant about this. Part of the reason why the game looks so bad is because they tried to make the characters look like they belonged in a live action movie or something, right? So why the hell is Arthur still a short cartoon character? Why is he part of the game's story? He is the most out of place character in this line up but he's still here! We've even had a normal human sized version Arthur back in Namco x Capcom, so there's precedence for him to look like a normal human being. There is... so much that upsets me about this game from a design standpoint and I think this is one of the more baffling examples of it.
a joke i still like to make about Dr. light of all people being alive(?) in this game is that its just a VERY well planned hologram just like it is in all the MMX games. except those are clearly just messages, this is almost like talking to a real person. lol
I think a big problem isn't the fact that they say each other's names everytime they speak, but the fact that they say the full fucking name. And is incredibly weird with the marvel characters since you almost never hear (or see them in the comics) refer to each other as their super hero names, they usually talk like they are close friends who know each other. For example, around like the 16:00 mark, cap refers to Doctor Strange as "doctor", I can guarantee you that you will most likely see Cap refer to Doctor Strange as simply "strange".
Since this game had "infinite" in the title I was convinced it would eventually have a almost infinite amount of characters. Only thing infinite about this game was the disappointment. Especially when you've paid $80 for it 🤦♂️
@@gokusondbz and that's completely fine! enjoy it if you want, but you cant ignore how Marvel wanted top billing when it's came to the roster (both base and DLC)and story mode.
Dont forget about all the nodding. If hawkeye and captain were right next to each other then why did they have to use their earpieces and announce themselves?
It's funny that some of the Capcom characters look fine like X and Zero, but not a single non robotic Marvel character looks good due to the attempt at a realistic art style.
I never understood why they did not use any of the Megaman X bosses. How cool would it have been to see Storm Eagle, Chill Penguin, etc as bosses in this game.
9:10 This is what I dislike when FGC people talk about MvC They want the same 30 characters in every game because of nostalgia or whatever, but the weird and interesting characters that represent the history of both companies can't get in because they're not "badass" or whatever Arthur deserves to be in MvC as much as Dante or Megaman
The problem is that for some folks, characters like Arthur arguably don't belong in a roster like this. I agree that Arthur is deserving to be in a crossover like this especially compared to characters like Captain Commando who had one game and kinda failed as a mascot to Capcom. But when it comes to a roster like MvC that had so many enjoyable characters that cutting most of them out feels wrong. That's why Smash Bros tends to have over 80% of their characters come back from the previous game as well as fans being butthurt about those cuts. Once again, I think Arthur belongs and Max is just not a fan of him which I get. Personally, as long as we get a Ghost n Goblins rep in a game like this, I'd be fine.
I'm not even joking when I say that MK vs. DC had a better Story Mode. At the very least, they were competent enough to start the story at the beginning and restrained enough not to throw a million characters at the viewer at the same time. Believe it or not, slowly drip-feeding the crossover characters gave the Story Mode proper pacing, funny that.
Well, Smash's Subspace Emissary, while not being the most developped story mode of fighting game, is still hella fun because of his amazing interactions between characters, representing at the same time the charm of each series...
Usually, you then focus the story on 5 or 6 characters with everyone else becoming secondary. Or you split the army into 3 teams, and each team has its own story.
This is the kind of Rushed Storytelling that I would expect from the DC Cinematic Universe, NOT the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Like seriously, how TF did Sigma Ultron manage to steal the Throne of Asgard from Odin?! I feel like I just missed the first 30 minutes of a movie or something!! Feels like we're 25-35% of the way through the Movie, but at the INTRODUCTION!!
as somebody who saw it out of context, i found the ghost rider morrigan interaction to be VERY funny. the stupid kind of funny? yeah. intentionally funny? somewhat. is it an unironically good moment? eh... i hear morrigan isnt super in character in this game. but i find the moment of morrigan being a thot around a walking death metal album cover whose only concerned with vengeance to be hilarious.
Man, I'd have loved a playable Ultron Sigma and an additional Ultron Omega arcade mode similar to MVC3's Galactus mode. This guy looks like he'd be a seriously fun fusion.
If Star-Lord was in this game, they should've had an scene with him and Spencer where Spencer introduces himself and Star-Lord is like "Who?" before realizing he's now the person who doesn't know someone else for once.
I think the dialogue would work better if the visual style was more "traditionally comic book-y." Honestly, even just continuing from MvC3's aesthetics (with maybe a little bit of polish) might not have been a bad move. It would still feel corny, but the perceptual disconnect wouldn't be as bad.
I remember being really wowed by the concept of this, even though I'm not a massive fighting game or comic nerd... and I just, never really got around to getting it. I think I'm glad I didn't. o_0

The awkward pauses, grunting, and characters nodding at each other is a common problem in games with Japanese writers (mostly cause it doesn't translate well to English without feeling off)
The emphasis on Marvel might have been to ride the hype of the MCU, hence the infinity stones
EDIT: 45:00 Max explains it
Everyone looks like they're 3D modeled by Rob Liefeld after he just found out how to do it.

it was written by Marvel Studios. do research next time
@@SonnyBCreative No way it could have been anyone other than the intern from marketing.
They should've used the voice actor from the megaman X PSP game. The "I WILL DEFEAT YOU SIGMA" always gets me.
He sounds a bit too much like Dan."
"But in combat?"
So he doesn't sound like X in the part of the game most people are going to play? Damn.
I think he sounds awful everytime he speaks ( i miss mark gatha as X.... ), this voice actor does a way better job at teppen though
I'm still in disbelief that they bring back X's voice actor from Maverick Hunter X and X8. He became the best X in the series by far and did a great job at characterizing him. Hell, he is even in the mobile game. The direction in voice acting in this game just doesn't make any sense.

Definetly a masochist
Underfunded and very much RUSHED to capitalize on the MCU hype. What could've been from this game is heart breaking, smh.
And that's what's so ironic. Like Max said, had this come out 6-7 months later between Infinity War & Endgame and at around the same time Captain Marvel was coming out, this game would have been much more relevant. And maybe those 6-7 months would've given them a little more time to add on some more polish to the game.
@@Unknownigen Not to mention the staggering amount of bitching and knaiving from Disney side. Is like they wanted to make an excuse to stop doing MvC games.
I don't really understand it. It's a beloved 25 year old franchise that surely has made fans from both sides be interested in one another, why shit on the franchise that has given one of the best selling fighting games of all time?
Daniel Martinez Gonzalez Daniel Martinez Gonzalez it especially pissed me off how Marvel was basically breathing down the devs necks even back in the MVC3 days. If I recall, they had to fight to use Shuma Gorath, Rocket Raccoon etc. because Marvel wasn’t using them or something which is still stupid to be against.
@@carlbloke8797 Yep. Marvel wasn't planning to use/didn't have the rights to some characters (Capcom wanted to add Juggernaut to MvC3, but Marvel said no cuz he was owned by Fox at the time, and they didn't wanna promote their competition).

"Iron Man looks like a homeless guy" How was that not on the back of the box?
I loved the idea of being able to play Ultron Sigma(and overpowered version) by choosing ultron and sigma and choosing an extra option to fuse them. I know that's not how they would do it even if they did but making the boss actually playable, and removing your assist in return would be interesting as a casual player
Could have made a special team super. Like when you run Bucky and Cap.
In fact, they could have made a bunch of them.
i think one of the reasons this story sucked so much is because none of the capcom characters were important whatsoever. every time we see a capcom character theyre just there to be a marvel character's tag out, or to give a quip and then say nothing else of importance for the rest of the game. even ultron sigma is just ultron that happens to be infected with the sigma virus
Sad thing is this game is what made my sister really appreciate MegaMan X. She's beaten 1, 2, and 4. As sad as this game is, it kind of has a special place in my heart.

THAT.
10:13 “Nice weapon, Lance-a-little. Compensating for something?”
Max: *YOUR TINY PE-*

Like, what?
I'm still not sure why they went with Kate and not Clint.
Put some respect on Kate!!!! She whooped old man wolverine. Go sit down and read something
It’s cause of her connection with Clint I’m fairly certain Black Panther would have been the og first DLC until Chadwick Boseman’s tragic death so..
The character designs were ok, but the lighting engine and semi-realism used in Infinite doesn't do any of the cast any favors (i.e. why Dante looks like he's on day 3 of a sleepless cocaine binge.)
"It's also my wife and I'm severely depressed,
HELP ME."
Max: "Universes and stages colliding is a really cool idea!"
*Can't believe Playstation Allstars Battle Royale did this idea not only first but BETTER*
And it had Kat from Gravity Rush too as DLC, but still better than Arthur from Ghosts and Goblins
35:07 It feels like this scene was meant to happen *before* you fight, with Thor cutting in after the fight ends. Even more ways this game feels like it was just thrown out unfinished and left to die.
When the demo makes you feel that your starting in the middle of fhe story thats not a good sign
The constant name dropping reminds me of that Rush Hour 2 blooper. "Jackie, kick it!" "Okay, Chris Tucker!"
For me personally MVCI is just... So much wasted potential. The gameplay is amazing. The idea to unite Ultron and Sigma is genius!
And yet here we are... Still (not anymore) waiting for Simon Blackquill...
@laz kar I think it was leaked a long time ago that Simon Blackquill was supposed to be a dlc character
MVCI is pretty much dead now, and it's sad. I imagine Simon would play like a mix of swordplay and UMVC3 Phoenix Wright evidence/modes shenanigans with Taka thrown into his moveset
Damn, that's a shame we won't get Simon...
Edit: Oh, and imagine stunning Thanos or Dormammu with Simon's trademark "SILENCE!"...
Who is Simon Blackquill?
@HorizonCrosser 128 Well, if you notice, the Marvel roster of the first games are almost everyone tv show characters, that's why it all started with X-men.
@@Protosilver97 Simon Blackquill is a recurring prosecutor from Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies. He's convicted for murder, yet he still prosecutes DD cases. Has a pet falcon called Taka. It's not blood just some red liquid
This game was made by capcom. The company that put out games like monster hunter world, Resident evil 2 remake. This is a game from a AAA company. Just...lordy
Capcom made a lot of questionable decisions before Monster Hunter World. Though I also blame Marvel/Disney for how this game turned out.
It just damn sucks that MVCI turned out this way
I have to rant about this.
But who's more homeless: MvCI Tony Stark or Marvel Avengers Tony Stark?
I never understood that, is M.A tony broke?
a joke i still like to make about Dr. light of all people being alive(?) in this game is that its just a VERY well planned hologram just like it is in all the MMX games. except those are clearly just messages, this is almost like talking to a real person. lol
It's probably just supposed to be an advanced AI programmed to be him.

28:22 So ironic, the whole story mode is banal cliché
I think a big problem isn't the fact that they say each other's names everytime they speak, but the fact that they say the full fucking name. And is incredibly weird with the marvel characters since you almost never hear (or see them in the comics) refer to each other as their super hero names, they usually talk like they are close friends who know each other. For example, around like the 16:00 mark, cap refers to Doctor Strange as "doctor", I can guarantee you that you will most likely see Cap refer to Doctor Strange as simply "strange".
I still can't believe what was allowed to happen with this game. An absolute travesty!

I never understood why they did not use any of the Megaman X bosses. How cool would it have been to see Storm Eagle, Chill Penguin, etc as bosses in this game.
I would've love to see Vile next to Ultron Sigma
9:10
This is what I dislike when FGC people talk about MvC
They want the same 30 characters in every game because of nostalgia or whatever, but the weird and interesting characters that represent the history of both companies can't get in because they're not "badass" or whatever
Arthur deserves to be in MvC as much as Dante or Megaman

X and Zero finally in a crossover fighting game... and they don't join forces. Ever.
Max is one with MVCI in the thumbnail.

Realistically it’s hard to write a whole roster without being a bloated 90 hours that matches underneath game of thrones or something.
Well, Smash's Subspace Emissary, while not being the most developped story mode of fighting game, is still hella fun because of his amazing interactions between characters, representing at the same time the charm of each series...
Presentation. Presentation matters.
Usually, you then focus the story on 5 or 6 characters with everyone else becoming secondary. Or you split the army into 3 teams, and each team has its own story.
This is the kind of Rushed Storytelling that I would expect from the DC Cinematic Universe, NOT the Marvel Cinematic Universe. but i find the moment of morrigan being a thot around a walking death metal album cover whose only concerned with vengeance to be hilarious.
Man I wish this game looked better because I actually really really like this game's backgrounds
I think the dialogue would work better if the visual style was more "traditionally comic book-y." Honestly, even just continuing from MvC3's aesthetics (with maybe a little bit of polish) might not have been a bad move. It would still feel corny, but the perceptual disconnect wouldn't be as bad.
The voice of Gamora in MVCI is voiced by the same actor for Hera Syndulla in STAR WARS Rebels and played Wonder Woman in Super Man Red Sun.
The problem with Ultron Sigma is they made a Fisher Price toy a villian.
I remember being really wowed by the concept of this, even though I'm not a massive fighting game or comic nerd... and I just, never really got around to getting it.
I think I'm glad I didn't. o_0
I just realized that Captain Marvel has the same voice actress as azula from Avatar and Vicky from Fairly Odd Parents
This dialogue is like a Rick and Morty episode that makes fun of tropes from Marvel movies. Yeesh.
The story mode being done with the help of Square Enix explains why it feels like I'm watching a Kingdom Hearts cutscene.

Functions Vs. Functions Infinite.
I can’t really fault Combofiend for the functions thing. Ike Perlmutter probably had an assassin ready to fire if Peter implicated Marvel in any way for the lack of X-Men & F4 characters. And given that he later got a job at Marvel Games, it worked out.

X’s MVCI voice acting is OK to me, as a fan of the character. I don’t get any Dan Hibiki out of him at all, my personal issue is that he doesn’t get to express much emotionally, which to me is X’s selling point character-wise: When he communicates his anxieties and frustrations with all the evil and violence that happens around him!
