    In this tutorial video I am making a carrier tube for a single bottle of wine. This uses just over two square feet of leather and is hand dyed and stitched. All hardware can be easily found online for very affordable prices.

    A friend of mine is a Master of Wine and has been talking about how he needs to find an elegant way of carrying a bottle of wine. I decided to make this for him as a one of a kind Christmas gift.
    I used 5mm veg-tanned leather and hand dyed it with a slight wear patina.

    very beautiful and also the attention to detail off the chart you are the irst person i saw online that actually put dye on stitch holes very inspiring thank you c.noel vancouver canada

      Wow thank you! To be honest, I do not usually put dye in the stitch holes because it doesn't need it. With this particular stitch pattern and butt joint it pulls the leather towards the seam causing a wider opening. For most leather dyed at the tannery this isn't as big of a problem because the dye goes deeper into the leather. When you hand dye it stays very much on the surface. On normal stitching the holes also go all the way through instead of part way at an angle. Its like pulling back the aluminum foil seal on a yogurt container a little bit. When you do that you are going to see the yogurt but if you just poke a knife in straight up and down you probably won't see anything inside.

    OLD Leather Smith here, Great Job, Excellent visual presentation. Chicago Screws great choice, tooth pick also good choice, I wouldn't change a thing . Personally I don't like music in videos so I watch with the sound off. GOD'S BLESSINGS ✝️⚾🙃

      Thanks for the feedback! If I could ensure a constant state of natural room and tool sounds I'd leave it without music but unfortunately the AC/heat and living in an apartment building mean I have to toss in music to cover it up a bit.

      Thanks! There was a moment of panic when I went to the kitchen and couldn't find the toothpicks! Apparently I've been putting them in the wrong place and the wife decided to "put them where they belong!" 😆😆

    I would've finished the interior with tan-kote to make it slick but other than that it's a beautiful design and execution, I really enjoyed watching it!

      Ah! That is a great idea! I hadn't even thought of finishing the inside because it is a bit loose fitting for the bottles it will be used for but I do think it would have made a great finishing touch.
      Thanks for watching and for your feedback!

    Beautiful music and a very nice wine carrier. I was lost for ten whole minutes. God bless you. ❤️ PS: which camera was it? If it's not a secret please show us someday yours studio and lighting setup. Thank you

      Awww! Thanks!
      Camera and lighting setup is no secret. I'd gladly post a photo once I get the community tab at 500 subs. In the mean time, I use a Canon EOS R and a combination of a 24-70mm, 50mm, and 70-200mm lenses. As for lighting, it is a single Godox FV150 with a 90cm octobox. It is set up on a c-stand overhanging the workspace. It is all stuff I had from before I started making youtube vidoes.
      I would really like to try out a 100mm macro but I don't know anyone with one or place that will rent.

    What is the final clear solution you put on the leather right after you applied the dye, and right before you started to edge your pieces?

      Hi! It is neatsfoot oil. The workshop is a little cold so it is thicker than normal but still gets the job done.

    What is the apps you are using for radius stuff. Been looking for yrs. Great job. Does the pattern is avail for this?

    • @SideStreetLeather
      @SideStreetLeather  2 роки тому

      Thanks! It isn't a specific app, I just googled circumference calculator and picked the first thing that came up.
      I don't have the pattern ready yet but I hope to soon. There are a few things I need to adjust before I publish one.

    Superb 👌👍🏽...
    Always keep the Dye Bowl on left side if u r right handed for avoiding wastage of dyes 🙏🏽.
    I dye the edges after sanding with, 120, 240, 320, 400 and then apply dye on edges and then 1000 grit paper, then again dye, then burnishing with wood slicker, then again dye, after this tokonole and canvas... It gives me good looking edge🙏🏽

    where did you get that cool ruler?

    • @SideStreetLeather
      @SideStreetLeather  Рік тому +1

      The flexible one is a fabric tape measure which you can get at most hobby shops that sell fabric. The black one is an aluminum safety ruler that I bought online. It has a foam pad on the bottom to keep it from sliding and the tall edge keeps your fingers safe. I've seen them for sale on several leather supply websites, aliexpress, and amazon. I have a few other rulers that I used before this one but they never get used now.
