- GMC ASTRO 95 Semi Truck CABOVER
Breaker Breaker we runnin this Jimmy 318 DETROIT southbound to get some go-go juice.
Hop in the cab for a beautiful summer night run to Retroland Truckin!
Wow! Does that bring back memories. First truck I ever rode in, Oct 1975, was a GMC cabover. Been a fan of the cabovers ever since and that's all I ever drove until 22 years ago.
I absolutely adore those cool blue lights inside Blue Jay, it doesn't need any more. It's already so awesome as it is.
Thanks Dwight 😬👍
@@DaneScottsTRUCKERSLOUNGE Agree, the lights are just right as it allows outside viewing about equal.
And to take better advantage of the Astro large windshield, is it possible to mount camera a bit higher? Regardless, Thanks for the night ride!
Absolutely a fun ride. That old girl seems to have a lot left in her. Thanks for bringing us along.
There has never been a day in 60 years that the sound of a Detroit Diesel comes into mind from the first time I rode the city bus in 1962 as a kid to when I went to work there in a non-driving position 10 years later and stayed there until 1978. They had 4.71s, 6.71s and 6V53s and from late 1973-on 8.71s. Most of that fleet was still there when I left. I wish there was a CD made of Detroit sounds for about an hour which I could put in the boom box and go to sleep to every night.
That Astro sings such sweet music I can just melt!!! Reminds me of those rides on a Greyhound Scenecruiser bus.
That is so cool to have that pedigree. You were right in the thick of it for sure. Hat tipped.😬👍
Great comment…..Detroits were the background music of a bustling world.
I remember, as a child nearly 50 years ago, hearing those old Detroits' screaming up and down US -141 (before I43 was built). That's probably why there's a special place in my heart for them!
It puts me into the rear powered Crown school buses we had in No. calif. 70's-80's.
Don’t care if the video was bumpy or not, hearing that Detroit sing was awesome!! Thanks for posting this great video, made my day!
Glad to share the enjoyment for sure. 😬
VERY cool video . . I started my driving career in 1976 in my 1971 Astro 95 ( this video brought back a lot of memories - mine was a 318 and sounded just like yours ) . . . I lasted about six months, it would have been a lot LESS if my truck hadn't had power steering and A/C !!!
Perfect Cruise Dane , Wayne's General looks Sharp with the way he's placed the red lights to give a shadow/ underglow effect , Blue Jay sounds Awesome , a pleasure to hear the 2 Stroke , those blue l.e.d's are cool inside , just enough running down the road but not "" over powering glare "" THANX for the video , Safe Travels to You and Wayne when cruising . 👍👍👍👍
Hey buddy thanks. I was wondering if you were gonna walk up to me there again lol. 😬
Last 10 years or so I been diming the dash lights hard to see the road better at night. For some reason that truck always reminds me of the buses I rode as a kid more than the Detroit's I drove way back when. Except for the bouncing :-)
Most if not a Greyhound and RIC city buses had 2 stroke DDs
Two awesome units..you guys have way to much fun....The trucks cleaned up at night always look mint with the right lights on them....
I know a guy with a killer General and now 4300 that would fit right in with us from the north land lol. 😜👍
That General looks really nice too!!
Truck World! My favorite truckstop is the one in Hubbard. Old school truckstops. I love it. Keep it safe n’sound, hammer down!
I’m gonna visit that one soon for sure! I drive past it a month ago and didn’t have time to stop. It looked awesome and like they have a lot of truck goodies there too.
Very nice Astro!
Enjoyed the video. Love your passion for trucks!
Thanks Jason for watching
Hello Dane Scott enjoyed the ride in old blue jay and the gmc genral looking nice also. 👈👍
thanks for the ride Dane!
Love the old GMC
Super cool ..had snow in austinburg this morning and some during the day too .
Keep it on your side of the highway please 😂
Lol ..I'll try
I hate to sound like a repeat of Gilligan's Island, and what I mean by that is how he screws up the rescue, but the Astro/Titan looks just as modern today as when it first hit the road in late 69.A true testament to GM styling, the old girl will never look old.
I’m with you Pat! 😬👍
I absolutely love the GM trucks! GMC ASTRO 95/CHEV Titan 90, Generals, and Bisons! I'm building an AMT 1/25th scale GMC Astro model kit right now! I love your trucks!
You have great taste John! 😜👍
Brings back memories of my earliest trucking back in 79. Actually sometimes instead of the gmc it was Chevy titan90 and bison. Same thing
Yepp, same trucks different badging.
Thanks for the cruise in ! The chicken lights look awesome on Blue Jay as well as the blue light special in the interior , It illuminates the cab interior very well ! I have to say I like the cab overs the most never did get drive one ! It was always the conventional cabs , I always thought the Astros , & Titans were some the best looking cab overs out there ! I remember when I was living in Northern Va. there was a steel yard there that had 4 or 5 of a Astros that were mixed with a few Titans of course they were all day trippers , & had about the same paint scheme as Blue Jay that was blue , & white sharp looking rigs . That was a nice partial shot of the dispatch office ! (lol) with all the creature comforts . On another note no one can say that there glad they aren't paying those $$$$$ prices for diesel fuel because they are indirectly ! But I'm glad I only have 1 diesel engine feed , & that's on my 2018 CUT M-F 1526 & it has only has a tiny 3 cylinder , & doesn't need DEF or a regen , Got love the ole stuff from the 80's on back ! Thanks for the ride along.
I agree in those killer Astros and titans! Thanks too for watching 😬
@@DaneScottsTRUCKERSLOUNGE I forgot to mention before they got the Astro's , & Titans, They ran nothing but GMC cracker boxes same paint scheme.
Awesome night ride . Love those old Detroits. I like the blue lights in blue jay
Thanks Bryan
Detroit cruising on a summer night! Thanks for the ride and until next time be safe and sound!
You bet! 😬
Both classics looking sharp 👍
Awesome morning Dane hope you are having an awesome day !!!!!!
Thanks Robert, same to you my friend.
Thank you for keeping that old iron alive.
That ride reminds me why I didn't like cab overs. That is However a nice looking truck and not a real bad ride. I'm sure the air ride seat helps a bunch.
I drove a few trucks with just the shock absorber, those were better than a solid mount but not by much
A loaded trailer helps smooth out the ride quite a bit !
I think Bluejay looks nicer than the General. I think it’s dressed up better paint looks to be in better shape too. Some striping on that white base would really set that off nice but I know it’s what you’ve got time and money for too. Looks like you had a good time.
Thanks Darren, yes it’s just pure fun Hearing that Detroit and driving a truck I drewled after as a kid. Hard to believe.
Nice ride .
It’d be nice to see them both at York next year !
Man I love the ride along…
Thank you for watching 😊👍
I love how the 2 strokes DD sound but they do sound like a Greyhound
Thanks again Dane for another awesome video blue Jay and the general are gorgeous 😍
Awesome just awesome, those trucks are the real deal👍👍
Blue Jay is looking fantastic Dane. 👍😎👍
Love them trucks man
Hey some detail work you want to try to dress up BLUE JAY . black out around the grill edge and headlight cups , it will make the black stripes really pop , maybe ? 🤔
DANE great job
The Blue Jay looks awesome!!
16:30ish - Same when driving down the highway, when I see one of the "antiques" out cranking up more miles they get my attention. Newer trucks just don't have the personality of the old rigs. :)
Ya winter 🥶 in Michigan going to get it this coming week unfortunately we been lucky with 60's 70's until now the bottom is falling out good while it lasted . Truck looks great Dane Scott.
Thanks Buddy, ya we had a wonderful Fall so it's only expected.
@@DaneScottsTRUCKERSLOUNGE yep hear as every year gonna be a badd winter this year, well well see ...
I noticed that lower bumper has holes for lamps. I have a set of Perlux lamps. They are used but look like new. Original GMC issue. I got them when I worked for a Heavy GMC dealer in the 80s.
Oh man nice! I have them just gotta get em back in.
Beautiful truck.
For Billy. I always heard truckers say. 2 stroke DDs were great on flat highways but lacked torque for the hills. True of false?
Was a real cool video. You'll have to do more!! Maybe find a period correct trailer for blue jay to pull around for fun at shows and whatnot.
Definitely would love that
@@DaneScottsTRUCKERSLOUNGE Be even cooler to run some loads locally. Then we could see what it's like to work a cabover that old!
Would definitely hafta be a Great DANE trailer! 🤨
I wonder who originally owned Wayne’s General? IT looks “Ryder-ish” spec’s to me. Ryder didn’t run many but they had some scattered around.
Blue Jay sounds real good
My Dad had a 73 GMC Astro all white 318 Detroit it sounded just like yours bring back a lot of good memories when I was a kid my dad passed i watch all your UA-cam videos good job
I drove one of them screaming things lord Jesus I never was so glad to get out of it in my life cause he’ll make you go deaf
I’m sure driving one every day certainly would.
Love the trucks video and the content was good
Thank you Don for watching
Wow
No snow here in Chillicothe
First truck i drove otr General for USA truck
What shaky camera?
They didn’t call them spine busters for nothing!
G.ot M.echanic C.oming.
You need to invest in a 5th wheel weight
excellent idea!
Wayne's General is cool but Blue Jay sounds better with the Detroit.
Rough Rider lol
I know right? Hard to believe a truck called “Frankenstein” rides better than one called “BlueJay” lol.
I don't believe I could pump fuel with no gloves on could stand the smell of diesel on everything
So...I've been in the industry for >30 years, I've driven cab-overs, and I've even driven 2-stroke Detroit powered tractors - unfortunately, never at the same time...
My question: Am I the only one that looks at this video, thinking that (while it's a cool tractor and an AWESEOME engine) @Dane Scott doesn't really know how to drive a Detroit???
I definitely yield to the pros lol. I always admit I’m a hobbiest.
@@DaneScottsTRUCKERSLOUNGE: No worries brother! Sweet truck (and SWEETER motor! I just LOVE the sound of those old 2-cycle Detroits!), and I'm just glad you're keeping the old iron running!
I'd buy something like that myself - just for nostalgia sake - but I don't think my wife would approve...and she's pretty indulgent!
