Those who pointlessly say he's a war criminal, I suggest the truth is more complex than that, given the difficult world he inherited. While I do disagree with some of his policies at the time, he most definitely had highly intellectual reasons for doing what he did, and there is always more details than the simple, emotional vitriol of those who hate him. Read as much information on him by experts and come to your own opinion, but have good, cogent arguments for why you disagree with him. Either way, he is, at the very least, a formidable academic, whose opinion on foreign policy must be valued. I admire his intellect and his knowledge, and how that shapes his view on many issues.

Henry Kissinger has a lot of things, but "highly intellectual" reasons for bombing a neutral country behind Congress's back (i.e. illegally) is not one of them. Operation Menu achieved nothing except the total decimation of Cambodia and giving rise to the Khmer Rouge...whom Kissinger said he'd work with. Never kind his abandonment of the Kurd fighters, his involvement in the Bangladesh genocide, his overthrow of Colonel Allende and installing of Pinochet so American corporations had cheap access to copper. Intellectual reasons? Bah. He should be in the Hague.

I am very impressed by his writing style, not to diminish other parts of the man, his writing style in particular provokes me to imitate him the 'pre-eminet' *cosmo-socialmind. *all inclusive phraseology

A lot of politicians are like him, like Obama, Bush, Biden, Albright, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Clinton,Nixon, etc etc
Even great leaders like Eisenhower did crimes like being involved in Patrice Lumumba's assassination and the coup against Arbenz and Mossadegh

Is he still a free man? How is this possible? Why isn't the FBI doing its job?
Allende's family and the three thousand dead Chileans' families must be appalled. Not to mention those of the deceased veterans (on both sides) of Indochina...

What would be funny is, as a professor he yells at a student for shooting spit balls in his class. "You really like shooting spit balls in my class?" It would be really funny to hear him say that.

His biggest flaw has always been lack of intuition about people. Most recently he recommended former Exxon chief for Sec of State. A worst fit of man for job could not be imagined. HK also famously said Reagan had an instinct he (HK) could not understand. This says it all. The magic of leadership that moves people has always been beyond HK's understanding. So he did conceptual analysis, and missed the main factors-- the human factors. BTW, his brother, who came with him from Germany, speaks perfect English. When asked how come Henry speaks with such a heavy German accent, his brother said: I am the Kissinger who listens... 'Nuff said...

@The Sleuth Investor That is a Yiddish-speaking Ashkenazic Jewish accent, sounds nothing like a German Accent. A German accent sounds much more strong, masculine, and much deeper, similar like Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Till Lindemann.

Thinking that this talk would merely be a bit of cringe-inducing, doddering hagiography, I didn't watch it 'til just now (I realise that this exposes me as a cretin) ... but what an unexpected treat this talk was -- much more than just a welcome excuse to not start to tidy-up my apartment ... once I'd gotten past the rather cumbersome speaking style, Dr. Kissinger comes across as somebody with an incredibly youthful mind. I very much wish more time hadn't been allotted to his implicit critique of current U.S foreign policy ... not to be unkind to your country's government, but perhaps your Mr. Obama might consider drafting Dr. Kissinger in as National Security Advisor. Thanks for posting ... and BTW, the anecdote at the end & his telling of it are actually very funny.
