Apple, Starbucks, Tesla, KFC... just a few western or US companies that operate from China. Kissinger was one of the main men introducing this and you still believe in that national illusion...

Thinking back I'd say most people think Vietnam was a mistake and Iraq was...not the cleanest thing overall and a net negative. But that's about it. Every new war we'll always been supportive of, though later down the line we may think it was a slight mistake

I think that Kissinger was wrong about USSR but right about China. He perceived USSR as stable, and he never believed that Berlin Wall could fall until it did, but he did properly understood China as a state with transcendent history beyond politics, unlike a Soviet or Tsarist Empire. Reading his book and chapters about China made me see how crucial they were for the collapse for the communism in Eastern Europe since the Soviets had to move a lot of divisions in Siberia and Inner Mongolia to neutralize the risk of a Chinese invasion. Nixon also wrote a major paper about China before 1968 election when he stressed that the Chinese state would have a similar geopolitical interest in Asia irrespective of the political nature of the regime, and this is something everybody in China understands, unlike in Russia. Thus, it is important to engage China to reduce tensions and to help a more peaceful coexistence.

As a Chinese, I would like to say that the Cultural Revolution was introduced in my country's political book "Modern History and Outline of Modern History" (this book is authoritative and must be studied by all Chinese college students). First of all, the Cultural Revolution was defined as a civil strife. The cause of the Cultural Revolution was the severe external environment (infiltration of imperialism) and the rapid deterioration of Sino-Soviet relations, which affected the judgment of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China on the domestic political situation. Moreover, the CCP quickly entered socialism after experiencing a long war. It lacks experience in how to build socialism in an economically and culturally backward country, and it is easy to follow some methods and experiences that worked during the war. The Cultural Revolution was also launched to prevent capitalist counterattacks and corrupt privileges and bureaucracy within the Communist Party. Then the story of the Cultural Revolution was introduced, and the final evaluation was: "History has shown that the Cultural Revolution was a civil strife that was mistakenly launched by leaders and exploited by counter-revolutionary groups, bringing serious disasters to the party, the country and the people of all ethnic groups." More questions can be found in the "Resolution on Certain Historical Issues of the Party Since the Founding of the People's Republic of China", so I hope that some malicious conspiracy theorists will no longer have to imagine the consequences of discussing the Cultural Revolution in China. This is a serious and solemn event. We Chinese will learn lessons from it. I know CNN and the BBC love to discuss the Cultural Revolution, but the Chinese always look forward, with all the lessons and experiences from our 5,000-year history.

A) you'kk be fire immediately B) that would be determental to the USA and our allies C) the decisions you are making have factors that really only give you usually one option D) Most of what you do is get the department and president are on the same page, that the president has the right info and is up to date, and to make it so that communication between the president and our allies and our DOD and CIA is fast, up to date and everyone is one the same page and there is no surprises.....like most of what you do is manage personell and do the presidents bidding. During the Korean war China demonstrated that they were capable of culturally deconstructing any enemy and then reassimilating it into their cultural ways from the root base. Something the Us didn't know about until then. The Us and Russia realized the dangers from Chinese culture and capabilities and agreed to a way of countering the expansionist power and strength of an homogeneous culture that didn't know to other ways and cultures. They agreed to the cold war which materialized from the 60's to the 80's mostly. In fact what causes conflicting issues among trespassing frontiers between two different countries is their external differences with respect to their internal homogeneity among their cultural behaviours and that is probably an important geopolitical fact for international agreements that have last even for 300 years .

Just bought “Kissinger on China “ Kindle ebook n read the first chapter “The Singularity of China “ which recount the “forever existed “” myth” ( my words)of the Chinese Civilization vs the Concept of Nation State ( PRC leaders still think they are governing a Civilization from “ The Rejuvenation of the Chinese People “). Dr. Kissinger is “right” in his opinion about China/Chinese Civilization/Chinese History , but this approach feels “Clinical or Surgical “ n detached. He n President Nixon saw the world also in this clinical/ surgical view to open up China to offset USSR. They did the RIGHT thing. But Nations n Civilizations are driven n based on the People, from the bottom up. Now in 2023, 1.4 billions Chinese, the bone n flesh bodies, are driving China into the modern era through their labour n knowledge in Science n Technology n this concept of Nation State n its practicalities will be more dominating. To paraphrase President Xi, Science n Technology will be a major aspect of (future) Chinese Civilization.

For Mao the real revolution wasn't chasing away Chiang Kai Shek in 1949, but the one he started in 1965 called the Cultural revolution which established the Party as the supreme authority above the people and the nation, changing the philosophy of governance that ensured that no one will defeat China. Only after he ensured that he agreed to normalize relation with US. But to Kissinger it was just just toppling the society upside down and he like many Chinese failed to grasp the real intention of the cultural revolution (CR). We can see the wisdom of CR when US and the collective west fails to topple China and instead it is China which is toppling the collective west. Yet Mao's wiedom was never trumpeted and the US thinktank still doesn't know how China is winning and how US is losing.

Look at the lead up to this New Cold War against China. Your entire comment was a rote variant of the usual American propaganda. The only "new" material here was your wanton interpretation of events in China and its significance. Time to stop putting words into the mouths of the Chinese, or any other people, just to make the US look good. The human world has suffered enough under the "leadership" of the "free world".

@@sonarbangla8711 Yes, we respect Chairman Mao Zedong, he is a truly great man. In our historical evaluation, he is a great leader comparable to the four or five greatest emperors in Chinese history (although he is not an emperor, he like to be called teacher). We do not deny his mistakes, but we cherish his achievements even more. His merits come first and his mistakes come second. In the history of our civilization, we traded silk with the ancient Rome, built great buildings with the ancient Egyptians, and sown food at the same time as the ancient Babylonians. On the poker table of history, we have watched opponents appear and end one after another. We are still here, and we are once again on the road to revival. Americans think we are competing for global hegemony and cannot understand Chairman Mao's words that we do not seek hegemony. But the actual situation is that we lost interest in fighting for hegemony two thousand years ago. At that time, China’s territory was bounded by the Siberian wasteland in the north, the Himalayas in the west, the swamp in the south, and the sea in the east. For us, this is the whole world. It was not until the arrival of the British in the 19th century that Western civilization was brought to our door. As a country that has maintained its so-called hegemony in Asia for thousands of years, we know very well that hegemony is not only a danger to other countries, but also to ourselves - look at the current situation in the United States. For us, I think getting food on the table for 1.4 billion people, getting kids educated, getting the old cared are the goals we need to realize.

Thank you for this talk which presents overall a contrast between administrative and political, historical determinism as held up to a mirror of vision, hopes and expectations for the future. The talk also examined the impossibilities of the goals of Maoism ("Mao Zedong thought") and without a messianic, even a cult view towards Mao himself as supreme and incapable of mistakes which Mao apparently had, again, of himself. The revolutionary character of the post - 1949 administration, especially today, in P.R.C. cultivates the establishment of centrism, the power of a supreme leader and the primacy of communism as a party system with an internal left and a right. This makes for systemic and doctrinaire opposition to the outside and given related militarism has concerned parties worried, especially about the way doctrine engenders "will to power". It is sad also from the discussion there is no solution to the pinch this puts the korean situation into, and the insolubility of Afghanistan despite a horrendous war. One one level of analysis, the principles of China's outreach depend more upon the legacy of Zhou En - lai than any other, though this proposes in practice an either / or politically for millions of people in East Asia and in the abroad from China itself. Most of all, this talk inspires dissension from and activism about the human rights issues, issues of freedoms, proper and fair political administration, a proper and judicious view of politics of the exterior to P.R.C. and more on the subject of policy and administration there today. The book brings this out and so much more . . . -- a great work from a great friend and advocate of democracy.

We still need to try and make a deal with them, to preserve our interest and hold a share of influence in Belt and Road. He was good to deal with because he was predictable and stable. Doesn’t matter that what he did was abhorrent, at least it was predictable.
Wild cards, like Trump, are a problem in IR because even he doesn’t seem to know what he is doing tomorrow.

That's absolutely right. When the Long Dead Gone Soviet had left a Sickle-Hammer Party CCP in China forcing Chinese to listen to the Party to speak, to poop and to think, Chinese will follow the order to steal, to break the rules and to destroy the opponent. Chinese are possessed by the Long Dead Gone Soviet Sickle-Hammer ancestors evil spirit. Majority Chinese have no soul.

One has no choice but to admire and respect Western Civilization. There was never a period in human history where the West wasnt at the pinnacle of geopolitics, culture, dominance, and technology. From Ancient Greece 6000 years ago to the Roman Empire, France, Spain, then finally the biggest Empire of all the British, and now the USA... the West has never ceased expanding and influencing the world. I mean just look at China's President Xi the most powerful man in Asia. even he has to wear Western clothing, speak English today. It speaks to the uttter dominance of the West througout millennia.
