Always a love/hate thing with the snow. It makes winter camping "winter camping". However, it can be problematic in one way or another. The views you showed us were still quite nice and the ice was really special looking. At the 3:14 mark, that was one happy dog!!!!! Glad you were filming. Take care, talk soon, Tom
that was a very beautiful section with the gorge views and frozen water. yes, that was something that there wasn't any snow there at all coming from so much snow not far away. great video bryan!
Thanks Nicole! This is a beautiful section of the BMT. Yea, it was crazy especially since the trailhead is only about 50 miles from my house as the crow flies. Coming home there was still snow on some of the roads as I got close to Knoxville.
Hi Bryan. Enjoyed this nice video walk with you on the BMT. When we lived in Cumming, GA (22 years), I day hiked (up-and-back) the BMT in GA. You've inspired me to look at other sections north. Thank you for your great work. Hoping the Lord provides and watches over you always...
We enjoyed Benton MacKaye more than AT. More like real wilderness and much less people. What a lucky dog, Brindle is to have been rescued and loved by your son
Great video Bryan and admire your getting out in the very wintry weather of late. I did that section a few years ago but as part of going from the Hiwassee River to the Ocoee River, Big Lost Creek was the best part. But I didn't recall a campsite anywhere along the trail until you get nearly to the Lost Creek Campground and Lost Creek Road, which looks like where you all camped? And expect your son was maybe going to the Ocoee River also?
Thanks Will! This section is certainly the best between Hiwassee River and Ocoee River. Our campsite was just before you get to Lost Creek Campground. We dropped Nathan's car at Ocoee (Thunder Rock), but he actually hiked up to Big Frog Mountain and then back to his car.
Hi Bryan! Sounds like it was super cold in Knoxville, looks like it was just a bit warmer where you were. Pretty hiking along the creek and seeing icicles and patches of snow. Probably was easier hiking with the trail snow free. Sure was a pretty campsite. Well, I didn’t get out in January for an overnight, maybe I will in February, 👌😄. Enjoyed the video! 🌟🌟 - Jen
Thanks and glad you enjoyed the video. It was very cold for about a week following a big snow event, thankfully we don't get that kind of weather very often. Hopefully you can get in a backpack in February.
Fantastic video! Beautifully put together! We're stuck in some kind hell between winter and spring up here, but if it gets any warmer spring is coming early..
Another great video. Thought? Looking at these southern mtn trails. Love to know this history of these well preserved established trails. Logging rds? Etc.
Thanks jmash! This is a beautiful section. We parked Nathan's car at the Ocoee River, but he hiked past his car up to Big Frog Mountain and then back to his car.
@@BryanDeLay Cool! I had thought about parking at the Thunder Rock Recreation area to begin a hike. Frog Mountain is pretty steep, from what I've learned. Such a beautiful area!
Thank you! You've not been able to find my water filtration system, because it's composed of four different elements. One is the Sawyer filter of course. Two is the CNOC 3 liter dirty water bag. Three is the Platypus Hoser 3 liter. And four is a shutoff hose clamp from the Platypus gravity filtration system. I emailed Platypus to see if they would sell just the shutoff hose clamp and they requested my address and mailed me one or free. Hope this helps!
Enjoyed your video Bryan! I am upset with UA-cam and the changes they have made to their algorithms. I am subscribed to you and have all the notifications checked but you don’t come up anymore. You’re not the only channel. Sorry! I’m sure you have no control over it. Anyway, I do go out and look for you now and then to see if you have a video up. Keep making them and I will keep looking for them!
Sorry to hear this Chris and you are correct I have no control over it. I'd suggest that you confirm that you are still subscribed to my channel. Glad you enjoy my videos and thank you very much for continuing to watch my videos.
Beautiful video! Your lucky "things looked just as you remembered" so much change is going on, destruction, surreptitious agendas...thank I know snow is pretty, but also pretty cold ! Your moving wuite springy...whats the secret ?
Snow can be very beautiful in the forest, but when the temps warm up and the snow starts melting it can be a slushy mess to hike in and at camp. I've been working out, including cycling, running or walking almost everyday and going to the gym about 3 days a week for about 35 years. Also I do a stretching routine 3 or 4 days a week.

The snow is beautiful, but it can be a sloppy mess when it's melting. Nathan's dog likes to play.
Thank you for a fantastic walk🙂🙂
Glad you enjoyed the video!
Short and sweet backpacking trip. Even Brindle has a pack cover !! Thank you very much for another wonderful video.
Thanks Mark! Brindle's pack cover is an old human pack cover my son had.
In the dead of winter, no snow and yet the trail still made for a beautiful hike. Enjoyed it, Bryan!
No snow was crazy considering 50 miles north as the crow flies there was still lots of snow from a storm a week before.
Always nice to go on these hikes with you and Nathan. Thanks for your time putting these together!!
Thanks and glad you enjoyed the video.

Thank you!
Another great video my friend! January and no snow! HAHA! Thanks for sharing your Dash!!! - Davey.
Thanks Davey! No snow in January must be strange to you.
so beautiful, I've got to get to Big Lost Creek, that is so cool that you found a hiking dog to go along
Thank you Kara!
Enjoy your time. Excellent video
Thanks Dave!
Thanks very much Ken! There are lots of nice sections of the BMT in Tennessee.
Mighty nice.
Thank you!
Nice little out and back trip with Nathan and Brindle. Ice on the creek sure makes it feel cold.
Thanks Sticky! Yea, the ice made it look colder than it was.
We enjoyed Benton MacKaye more than AT. More like real wilderness and much less people. What a lucky dog, Brindle is to have been rescued and loved by your son
Thank you! The BMT is much more crowded than the AT. Brindle is a great dog and as you say lucky.
Pretty creek. Nathan sure has a good looking dog.
Yes to both of those comments!

@@BryanDeLay Nathan is certainly in great shape, that would be a bear of a hike going up to Big Frog and back from the Ocoee!
Maybe we can try this section out come Spring?

Thanks Travis! The week before this trip was one of the coldest weeks we've had in a long time, although it was mild by Idaho's standards.
Another great video. Thought? Looking at these southern mtn trails. Love to know this history of these well preserved established trails. Logging rds? Etc.
Thanks William! Many of the trails are old railroad beds for logging. Sometimes you will see old rails or cables and coal for the engines.
One of my favorite parts of the BMT. Looks a bit different since I was last there in May.
Mine too! Yeah, a little bit different from May.
Great video, really enjoyed it, glad you were able to be outside, we were snowed in here in Clinton!
Thanks Lauren! You may have gotten a little more snow than we did in Knoxville.
Another enjoyable video. How did you stuff your quilit into your pack, do you use a compression sack?
Thanks Chris! Although I have used a compression sack in the past, for the last few years I've been just using a silnylon stuff sack.
Hi Bryan! Wow! You had a beautiful trip. I want to hike that section too. Which way did Nathan go? How far? Thanks for sharing!
Thanks jmash! This is a beautiful section. We parked Nathan's car at the Ocoee River, but he hiked past his car up to Big Frog Mountain and then back to his car.

Big Frog Mountain is really nice and there are some steep sections.
Enjoyed the winter scenery, even without all that snow!
Thanks John!

Hi Bryan. Thoroughly enjoyed your video. Thanks for taking us along on your adventures!

Thanks Danny! Glad you enjoyed the video.
Thanks
You're welcome Mark!
Do you ever use a bivy bag to help stay warm
I've never used a bivy. On this trip I was using a 10 degree Enlightened Equipment quilt so I was warm and toasty all night.
