I was on vacation in Florida and ran into Freddie!!! I said hello and told him how much i love the game and how sweet his swing is. He invited me out to his vehicle and gave me a signed glove, golfballs, and he signed my Titleist hat!!! What a guy!!!
My husband went to the 1984 Masters Golf tournament and tells about watching Couples( who was only about 23 years old) play for the first time up close. On the eleventh hole, a long par four, Fred was paired with Larry Nelson, who was setting the tour on fire that year. Nelson drove a long ,well struck, drawing ball down the center of the fairway and Fred was next on the tee. He had never watched him before except on Television. Couples set up on the left side of the tee box, and unleashed a low rocket down the right side of the fairway. He said the sound was like a muffled explosion, which made him flinch. Like a rifle shot . He had never heard the sound of a driver smashed in that manner, and it startled him! As it did for everyone standing around that hidden, small teeing area. Michael was a life-long fan from that moment on!.
I saw him in Singapore at the Johnny Walker Classic in feb 1993. He was playing with Nick Faldo who won the tournament and Colin Montgomery who ended second. Fred was 7th. I followed these three guys during the 18 holes. It was the most amazing day in may whole golf life. These guys were so nice, always smiling and you could even talked to them.
Congratulations to Couples on his PGA champions victory. And if you look at the highlights this weekend, you can see he’s lost a good amount of weight since this interview. It’s great to see he’s back on this game. Growing up watching Couples, we could all just relate to him as guys. The messy divorce from his first wife, played out out on a public stage must have been difficult. His trials and tribulations throughout his life has made us want to root for him even more.
anytime he's on TV I watched him. I have a back problem but like him he gave me courage to continue to play golf. I saw him in person once. He is a warm kind person. God Bless him
I don't think he graduated in 1997 (possible bad recording) from HS. That would have made him a Masters winner at the age of 13. However, he has always been one of the best players. His smooth swing shows that you do not have to swing like an animal to hit it far.
Absolutely correct. If you have good tempo you give yourself an excellent chance to make square contact. Combine those two swing qualities and you will hit it far. Fred Couples has proven that.
I sat next to Fred at a black jack table in Western Australia many years back and couldn't ask for a better sporting celebrity to hang out with. Appreciate ya Freddy 🤜🤛
Was at the Open at St Andrews in ‘90 on Thursday 8th tee box. The Brits are a very respectful quiet gallery and when Fred teed off there was one voice that said “nice shot, Fred”. And Fred looked over at me, smiled and said ”thanks,” and continued down the fairway. To this day I tell people I talked to Fred Couples at St Andrews.
I tried for years to develop that patented swing. Freddy, Fuzzy , Greg Norman we’re all playing together at a Tournament i attended . Yes i followed them the entire 18 holes.
Golf's greatest pace and one of the smoothest swings in the game belong to Fred Couples. He also has a terrific sense of humor. He is a fantastic player as well. I'm glad I learned about him.
I met Fred at the masters in a suite in 2001 we talked for an hour he couldn’t have been nicer. That’s when he was sponsored by Cadillac who owned the suite.
I was lucky to meet Fred at the CVS were I was a caddie for Quigley and a very long time friend and caddie for Faxon. It was great meeting Freddie....the man looks you in the eye and asks about you....
That part about Nance, I didn't know and I think it is so neat! I love the 1992 masters! Also graduated in 1997, more like 1977! And good lord go take a look at his final round at the SAS, a 60!
I actually have come to believe that golfer are generally cute and classy. They actually end up marrying beautiful women too😁. Thank you for keeping me upto date in the golf world. I love this channel
Fred Couples is known as a cool character and he's that way off the course also. He's got a great sense of humor. He's also a phenomenal player. When he's really on ... watch out!
I have emulated Fred’s swing (**as have millions of other aspiring golfers**) my whole “career”. Tension is a killer for the golf swing ad Freddie is the antithesis of tension! Butter!!!
One of my favorite golfers of all time! I liked his nick name of "Boom Boom" for his long drives! I could also drive the ball a long way, which is why I liked Freddie so much! my opinion 🦂
Fred couples doesn’t wear golf gloves for the best possible reason, as a kid his parents couldn’t afford to pay for golf and pay for golf gloves all the time in Seattle’s wet weather. So we had to go without gloves for so long it just came naturally.
Amazing golf swing always been a fan I’m 61 and I just had to have lynx clubs back in the day just like Fred oh and I have back issues as well definitely don’t have his bank account though😩😂🍻
he did not graduate high school in 1997 he graduated in 1977! your dates throughout the video are wrong, He was my Favorite golfer when I started playing in 1993, I still have a VHS tape of his practice video somewhere lol and I have played on his home course in Seattle wa!
I love Couples. According to the PGA app, he was born in 1959 which would mean he graduated in 1977. Also, according to the PGA app, he won a total of 15 PGA events and not 64.

Then you woke up and remembered you saw him from afar?

For the game and for all the charities and for us fans I consider Fred Couples to be the perfect golfer 💯👍😁
He is so good for the game of golf Steve ⛳️
Freddy is the epitome of class.

Yeah we screwed that date up Louis - thanks for the feedback ⛳️
I was going to say, I graduated in 1984 and I’m 56 years old, Fred couples is over 60. I’m guessing he graduated more like 1977.
Absolutely correct. If you have good tempo you give yourself an excellent chance to make square contact. Combine those two swing qualities and you will hit it far. Fred Couples has proven that.
Yep, usually these type clips are designed for clicks and are read by someone that’s not really interested in facts and details over clicks and likes.
It must be 1977
I sat next to Fred at a black jack table in Western Australia many years back and couldn't ask for a better sporting celebrity to hang out with. Appreciate ya Freddy 🤜🤛

"THE MAN!"
Fred and Nick Faldo had the most beautiful swings in golf.
Faldo wasn't really a long hitter like Fred...but he had great control and precision.
facts about golfs couples, i didn't know about it, and that sometimes could be hard
⛳️
Great Video

If Fred had a "Mr. Lucky" moment, it was his ball not rolling back into Rae's Creek.
I love Couples. According to the PGA app, he was born in 1959 which would mean he graduated in 1977. Also, according to the PGA app, he won a total of 15 PGA events and not 64.
Thanks for the feedback ⛳️

Great video. He's such a fun guy. Oh, and there's a mistake in the video. He graduated high school in 1977 but you said 1997.
ALL IN ALL AT 85 I SALUTE THIS 62 YEAR OLD! I KNEW OF HIM & NOW KNOW HIM BETTER.
I like that he is self-taught. He was one of my uncle's favorite golfers.
that's awesome
Freddie, my hero!
Excellent choice Lorna ⛳️
Fred Graduated in 1977 not 1997 but I loved the Video and Im a fan of Boom Boom
Good for Fred Couples. Regardless of how tough high school was, he stuck it out and was finally able to graduate at age 38.

Went to the Buick westchester classic ..the girls lined up to watch him at the first hole

He graduated in 1977, not 1997. And he's taken plenty of golf lessons from Paul Marchand.
thanks for the heads up
thank you PGA.
For sure!! ⛳️
01:26 Graduated in 1997, 1997? Is this really that difficult?
who knew freddy couples was such a baller, good for him
he is amazing!!
If Couples graduated high school in 1997 he'd have been 38. Now that's commitment!
Yeah, we messed that up --- sorry about that ⛳️
Check out the highlights of his 12-under par 60 from 2022. It’s on a UA-cam video.
Fred graduated from O'Dea H.S. ( pronounced, Oh'Day ) in 1977.
