- Hello, welcome back to the channel! In this video I review my 2022 University Applications. I go through where I applied to; my acceptances and rejections; my offers; what I did well; and what I could have done better. I applied to the Universities of Bath, Bristol, Cambridge, LSE, and Warwick - all for the 3 year Economics course.
Enjoy the video!
😁 Who am I?
Hi there, I’m Sam, an 18 year-old prospective ‘youtuber’ who studies Economics at the University of Cambridge. I make videos that hopefully motivate and inform you about learning, education, revision - as well as what I get up to! If that sounds like something that appeals to you then maybe consider sticking around for weekly videos!

Brainscape is an amazing, completely free revision card website and app. I have 2 Brainscape classes which contain the revision cards that I used to study A-Level Physics and the second year of A-Level Economics (for AQA). Be sure to check these out if you would like to!

I would be overjoyed with this many acceptance offers. Your videos are really helpful and reflect all the work you put into your actual work. I just wanted to thank you for your help, especially in Computer Science. Congratulations!
Thank you, this really means a lot.
Congratulations on the great offers!! That is LSE's loss!!
Just to add, as you applied to Cambridge you had to get your application in by 15th October. However, you could have added your other 4 university choices later (before applications closed in January). That would have given you more time to consider which universities to apply to. Most people think you have to submit all 5 university choices at once... you don't!
Good luck with results day, Sam!! Keep making great content, new subscriber here!
Wow, I never knew that about adding the other universities later on! That’s so helpful, as it would relieve some stress of having to send all of your application off early. Thanks for your comment, it means a lot, and I plan to keep going!
So happy for your offer from Cam.
However, I found my application is quite awkward as there's no a truely insurance school for me. Perhaps need to consider more options in other countries.
I’ve hear that schools don’t accept students with super high grades because they think that they will choose other more established schools
that's true in the case for some unis. but surprised that he didn't get accepted into LSE with the grades he got
It would be great if you went through your personal statement
Coming out this Sunday!
You are very underrated! Only 10 likes🤒 you will grow keep it up
Thank you!
What were your grades in GCSE and A levels?
12 grade 9s in my GCSEs, 4 A*s in my A-Levels
So good, thanks for posting
hi, really happy for you. im going to send out my applications next year and the process starts next month... I was wondering if u could let me know what internships could help if u wanna apply to uk for economics major.. im really confused, for ex like in a bank sector, what can I do? pls gives= more suggestions
I don’t actually think an internship is that important for a university application, as it doesn’t directly show a love for the specific subject you’re applying to. Instead, I’d recommend doing additional readings or activities directly related to economics. For example, attend online lectures for economics topics your interested in, complete an online course on a specific economic topic, read books about parts of economics you’re interested in, etc
When did you start looking at unis? When would have you started if you could do it again?
I started researching them at the start of summer when I was in year 12, although I did already have a couple that I was already set on. I think this was an okay time to start research, but in an ideal world I would have started research in the Easter holidays, and then actually booked open days and tours for the summer.
Hi Sam I hope ur doing well. I am predicted 3 A* in maths physics and economics, do you think it’s worth applying to Cambridge?
I would say it’s definitely worth it, I think it’s one of those things you may regret if you don’t. What subject are you looking to study?
If ucas allowed you to select 10 unis, what would the other 5 be? (I need recs)
Probably would be: Oxford, Durham, UCL, St Andrews and Exeter
@@SamHillman What do you think of Kings? Thinking of applying there for Econ next year, despite its low domestic uni rankings recently. Ideally want to get into IB in the future if that's at all a possibility.
What TMUA score did you get
Unfortunately I didn't sit the TMUA, instead I sat the ECAA. I think they changed it so this year is the first year to do the TMUA for Cambridge Economics.
hey, may i ask which college do you go at cambridge? :)
I'm at Kings
I went to York and LSE and hated LSE. York was far better as a student - actually had offers from Warwick, LSE for undergrad and only rejection was Cambridge, but liked York city and had family bought investment property so could live free. . LSE is a soleless place and London is a place for young professionals and not great even for postgrads. Only advantage was been in London for interviews and flights to New York. To be honest if you do well from most Russell group universities there is not much difference. Other things count
Got a unconditional from York for accounting. Should I go? I also have applied to Bristol and really like the city.
@@tonylong-noseiv7303 York is a solid target for big 4. I went into investment banking as did maths and finance. Although, know many went ACA route for that career path as provide stability and job security if you work your way up in big 4.
@@tonylong-noseiv7303 Although Bristol is equally as good and know friends who went there. Great city as well. Going to either will not make any difference, as long as you do well on your degree. So whichever place you feel most comfortable with.
