It's performances like this that make me wonder how much modern video game and fantasy television shows have put a desire in young musicians to pursue music as a career.
absolutely, game music in particular has a massive influence on many modern musicians and artists, Skyrim and Final Fantasy have some amazing music, and there's countless more examples, the days of 8bit plunks are long gone. That said, I do use the 8bit version of GoT as my ringtone now!
on a side note: Roanna Fawcett, the pianist of the stunning "Light of the Seven" cover, is among the choir at the start. seems she likes to do music :)

Up to the last third at least. The last part is a bit too epic for my taste, and doesn't fit the sadness the first part conveys, neither has it's pain in it.

Most covers of this song don't seem to understand what it's about. Emphasizing the wrong lyrics or drawing out incorrect parts or singing passionate and high rather than serious and low. This version nails it perfect.

I'd heard many male renditions, and wanted to hear this from a female perspective, this is a musical interpretation and celebration, also, the events of the Rains of Castamere affect everyone... However, if there is enough interest, I might put out a version with a male voice, to be more specific - my voice! Let me know, Ross.

I have a fussy memory of that not going so well.
I feel like this version encapsules the event of 'Rains of Castamere' perfectly. From Tywin's return to Casterly Rock (the beginning), House Reyne's insubordination/insolence (the vocal), Tywin's march to war against the Reynes (after vocal), then culminates at the siege of Castamere where the underground parts of it was flooded while the whole House of Reyne took refuge (the orchestral). The silence that followed,... Well,... the rain weeps 'oer his halls, with no one there to hear.
This is amazing but I was really hoping that the choir would come back in the second half and sing the lyrics in full force with the orchestration backing them

Whenever I listen to this track I see Jamie killing Cersei on gaining conscientiousness and ending the Lannister reign. Even though this music has a certain kind of melancholy and power in it still this is the one of the most loved tracked!

yeah it just depends on the song. its a technique taught at an early age which just sticks with you. i too am a cello player and i have played this song multiple times. it is to help count the quaver rests. so yeah just go with it.
